Naruto: Tobirama Reborn, Invincible in the Ninja World

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Return to Konoha with Me

"Shinra Tensei!"

The Deva Path's Rinnegan flared with a brilliant violet light, as if delivering a divine judgment.

Boom!

The ocean of trees created by Nativity of a World of Trees collided with the near-tangible repulsive force, splintering into shards as if shredded by an unstoppable force. Yet the vast forest seemed infinite, every wave of destruction was followed by another surge of roots and branches.

Within seconds, the force field of Shinra Tensei began to wane, its momentum dissipating like a stone sinking into the sea, swallowed by the relentless tide of tree roots.

"Impossible! It actually withstood Shinra Tensei!"

The Deva Path's body trembled. The attack had drained a significant amount of Nagato's chakra, yet it had failed to halt even one of Tobirama Senju's Wood Release techniques.

Tobirama folded his arms across his chest, a faint smile playing on his lips. With his almost limitless chakra reserves, he considered Nagato's attempt to clash head-on with him nothing short of foolish.

As the Deva Path entered a brief moment of weakness, the massive forest wasted no time. In the blink of an eye, it engulfed him completely.

High in the sky, three Akatsuki members perched uneasily on Deidara's clay bird, peering nervously at the battle below.

"The leader seems to have been defeated… by the Hokage."

Deidara's hands twitched as he maneuvered the bird. Kakuzu's green eyes, visible through his mask, were filled with alarm.

"Deidara, speed it up! If even Pain can't handle him, we're better off retreating now!"

Scowling, Deidara formed a quick seal, and the bird's speed increased sharply. Beside him, Kakuzu muttered angrily, while Sasori's composed voice cut through the tension.

"The leader isn't dead. Let's regroup at the base. If something truly disastrous happens, Tobi is bound to step in."

Kakuzu nodded reluctantly, and the trio quickly disappeared into the clouds, their figures vanishing into the horizon.

In their haste, they seemed to have forgotten someone.

Back at the battlefield, just as the Deva Path was about to be buried by the forest, Nagato swiftly controlled the Animal Path to summon him away.

In the nick of time, the Deva Path vanished, reappearing at a safe location. Nagato, gaunt and skeletal, heaved a sigh of relief. Yet his mind was clouded with unease.

"Why is Tobirama Senju here? Did someone leak our plans? Could there be another spy within Akatsuki… besides Uchiha Itachi?"

Glancing at the unconscious Konan nearby, Nagato's heart sank. He had devoted himself to fulfilling Yahiko's dream of peace, but that dream now felt increasingly out of reach.

With the Akatsuki members retreating, Tobirama halted the spread of his Wood Release. He could sense that the Deva Path's chakra had vanished, likely spirited away by a summoning technique.

Scanning the aftermath of the battle, Tobirama's gaze landed on a lone figure writhing amidst the wreckage—a body reduced to its upper half, cursing loudly.

"Damn you, Tobirama! Damn you and your Wood Release! Damn Kakuzu and his cowardice for abandoning me! Damn Sasori and Deidara too!"

It was Hidan, skewered by several wooden spikes, his limbs bound by vines. The only part of him still mobile was his head, which thrashed furiously.

"Tobirama, if you've got the guts, let me go! I'll show you the power of Jashin-sama!"

Tobirama approached slowly, unbothered by Hidan's ranting. He formed a seal and placed his palm on Hidan's forehead.

"Annoying. Be quiet."

A sealing technique silenced Hidan, leaving him able only to wiggle his head helplessly.

From behind, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed. Turning, Tobirama saw a battered figure approaching—it was Uchiha Itachi.

Weakened and nearly blind, Itachi barely managed to stay upright as he faced Tobirama.

"Hokage-sama…" Itachi greeted him weakly, bowing slightly.

Tobirama nodded and supported Itachi as he staggered forward. After a moment of silence, Tobirama spoke, his tone softer than before.

"Uchiha Itachi, would you consider returning to Konoha?"

Itachi's expression froze. Return to Konoha? He had never imagined that Tobirama, of all people, would offer him this.

Caught off guard, a tremor passed through Itachi's heart. But how could he face his brother, Sasuke, after everything? Perhaps he should reveal the truth to the Hokage and see his reaction.

Taking a deep breath, Itachi sat down cross-legged and began recounting his story.

"Hokage-sama, much has happened in the village since your revival during the Konoha Crush. Allow me to explain…"

Itachi detailed the Uchiha clan's planned coup, Danzo's schemes, and his fateful choice to betray his clan for the sake of the village. Tobirama listened intently, occasionally nodding, his sharp mind piecing together details absent from the records.

When Itachi finished, Tobirama let out a heavy sigh.

"Your choices were extreme, Uchiha Itachi. They inflicted unimaginable pain on your brother and nearly drove him to destroy the village." He paused, his piercing gaze softening slightly. "But your dedication to Konoha… it deserves recognition."

Itachi looked away, his empty eye sockets betraying his anguish.

"Hokage-sama, with all I've done… can someone like me truly return to Konoha?"

Tobirama's response was calm but resolute.

"The village is built on second chances, Itachi. But the decision to return… that lies with you."
