Chapter 90: One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 91)
The deeper the Straw Hat Pirates ventured into the heart of the island, the more oppressive the atmosphere became. The jungle around them had thinned, replaced by jagged rock formations and eerie, dark caves that seemed to pulse with a strange energy. Each step echoed with a sense of foreboding, as if the island itself was aware of their approach to the vault.
Luffy led the charge, his usual enthusiasm unwavering despite the ominous surroundings. "We're so close! I can feel it!" he said, his voice full of excitement.
Zoro, his swords at the ready, was more cautious. "Don't get too excited. This place is starting to feel like a trap."
Sanji cracked his knuckles, looking around warily. "I don't like the looks of this. Everything's too quiet. Where are all the monsters?"
Robin examined the path ahead, her sharp eyes scanning the surroundings. "That's exactly the problem. It's too quiet. The guardians we've faced so far were only the beginning. This island has a long history of powerful protectors, and they'll do anything to keep the Heart of the Forgotten Isle hidden."
Nami frowned. "That's not exactly comforting, Robin."
"I'm not saying it to scare you," Robin replied. "I just want you to be prepared. We're not walking into a treasure room. We're heading toward something that could change the world."
As they made their way through the caves, the air grew colder, and the walls seemed to close in around them. The faint glow of ancient symbols on the walls flickered, casting eerie shadows across their path. Suddenly, the ground beneath them began to tremble.
"Uh-oh," Zoro muttered, "Looks like we're not alone."
From the shadows, a series of figures emerged—shadowy, humanoid creatures made entirely of stone, their eyes glowing with the same energy as the golem they had defeated earlier. These guardians were faster, more agile, and appeared to be more intelligent.
Luffy grinned. "Bring it on!" He charged at the closest one, his fists ready to strike.
But these guardians were not so easily defeated. One of them swiped at Luffy with a razor-sharp claw, forcing him to leap back just in time. "Whoa! That was close!"
Sanji immediately jumped into action, delivering a rapid series of powerful kicks. "Diable Jambe—Flame Wheel!" His legs glowed with fire, and he slammed into one of the stone guardians, sending it flying across the cavern. But like the golem before it, the stone creature quickly regenerated, its body shifting and reassembling itself.
"These things just won't stay down!" Sanji growled.
Zoro narrowed his eyes, stepping forward. "Then let's make them stay down for good. We've got no choice but to go all out."
With a battle cry, Zoro launched himself at one of the guardians, his swords cutting through the air with precision. "Santoryu—Three-Sword Style—Dragon Twister!" The spinning blades sliced through the stone creatures, but they quickly reformed.
Robin's sharp mind kicked into gear. "We need to find their weakness. If we just keep attacking, they'll keep regenerating. There's something in the environment we can use to stop them."
Nami, watching from the back, realized something. "There! The symbols on the walls! They're glowing more brightly near the guardians. They must be connected to them!"
"Got it!" Luffy shouted, ready to take action. "We just have to break the walls, right?"
"Not exactly," Robin corrected. "The symbols are conduits. They're channeling energy to the guardians. If we destroy the source of that energy, the guardians will stop regenerating."
Sanji turned to face her. "So, we need to find the energy source and destroy it?"
"Yes," Robin said, her eyes scanning the cave for clues. "But we have to be quick. The longer we fight, the stronger they become."
Zoro nodded in agreement. "Leave it to me."
With that, Zoro launched into action, heading toward the far wall where the symbols were glowing brightest. "I'll take care of the rest," he said, slicing through the guardians that tried to block his path.
Sanji and Luffy worked together, keeping the guardians distracted as Robin leapt into action. Her limbs sprouted from the walls, reaching toward the glowing symbols. She used her powers to pry open sections of the stone, revealing a hidden energy core pulsating with immense power.
"There it is!" Robin shouted. "That's the heart of the energy source! We have to destroy it!"
Nami, always quick on her feet, immediately reacted. "Leave it to me!" She summoned her Weather Staff, manipulating the atmosphere around them. "Thunderbolt Tempo!" she called, sending a bolt of lightning crashing into the energy core.
The explosion of energy was immediate. The stone guardians screamed as the energy source was destroyed, their forms crumbling into dust as they lost their vitality. The once-glowing symbols faded, and the cave grew quiet once more.
Luffy and Sanji wiped the sweat from their brows, grinning. "That was close!" Luffy laughed. "But we did it!"
Zoro, standing among the wreckage of the guardians, sheathed his swords. "Yeah, but we've still got a long way to go. The vault is close. I can feel it."
Robin nodded, her expression focused. "The challenges are only going to get more difficult. We need to be prepared for whatever comes next."
As the crew continued on, the path before them grew darker and more foreboding. The vault, the Heart of the Forgotten Isle, was within reach. But with each step, they could feel the island's secrets becoming more dangerous—and more powerful.
They had already faced great challenges, but the true test was still ahead. The vault held more than just a treasure. It held the power to reshape the world itself.
