Without waiting, the crew sprang into action as the first barrage of cannonballs rained down toward them. The air filled with the sound of whistling metal, the threat imminent.
Luffy was the first to react, puffing up his torso like a balloon. "Gomu Gomu no Fusen!" His rubber body expanded just enough to deflect the cannonballs heading straight for the ship, sending them bouncing back into the sea with loud splashes.
Zoro moved next, his swords flashing through the air. He cut down the cannonballs with ease, slicing through the heavy iron like it was paper. Pieces of balls rained down around him as he casually deflected each incoming attack.
Sanji, standing nearby, kicked cannonballs away with swift, powerful strikes. Each one exploded off his foot, rocketing back toward the sea or smashing into another cannonball mid-air. "You better not sink our new ship, shitty geezer!" he shouted, his voice filled with frustration.
Franky wasn't far behind, firing blasts from his shoulder cannons. "Weapons Left!" The bullets blasts ripped through the air, taking out entire clusters of cannonballs in one go. The explosions lit up the sky, smoke billowing around the ship as the crew continued to fend off the onslaught.
Coby quickly positioned himself at the side of the ship, his hands already forming the stance for one of his water-based attacks. As another barrage of cannonballs hurtled toward the ship, he shouted, "Uchimizu!" Focusing his strength into his fingertips, he flicked water droplets into the air, launching them with incredible speed. The concentrated shots of water struck the incoming cannonballs, breaking them apart mid-air. The sky above the ship exploded with fragments of metal, raining harmlessly into the sea below.
Hiken wrapping around his fist as he shifted his aim. Instead of sending water darts, he unleashed a barrage of flaming projectiles—UchiHiken. The fire darts shot out rapidly, colliding with the incoming cannonballs, each one exploding in a burst of fire and metal. The fiery impacts lit up the sky, burning through the last wave of cannonballs before they could reach the ship.
As the smoke cleared, Garp's booming laughter echoed from his ship, clearly entertained by the resistance. "Still holding out, huh? Guess I'll have to throw some more!" he bellowed.
Before Garp could make his next move, there was a loud shout from the shore.
"Guys!" Usopp's voice rang out, catching the attention of the crew. He stood on the dock, panting heavily, clearly having run to catch up. His hand was clenched into a fist, determination clear on his face as he stared at the ship.
Chopper's ears perked up, and he bounced on the spot, waving his little arms. "Usopp! You're here!" he yelled, his face lighting up with excitement.
Nami stood beside him, her eyes wide in disbelief. "Luffy! It's Usopp!" she shouted, hoping her captain would hear.
But Luffy didn't move. His focus remained on Garp, the barrage of cannonballs still a looming threat. He ignored the calls from Chopper and Nami, he kept deflecting attacks.
Usopp's voice boomed from the junkyard, full of his usual bravado. "Rejoice, it is me! I know you couldn't wait to have me back as your Captain! No, Vice-Captain is fine too!" He puffed out his chest, waving one arm dramatically, completely missing the tension in the air.
Luffy, Coby, and Zoro exchanged glances. As Usopp continued blabbering, Nami and Chopper turned toward the others, hopeful.
"Luffy!" Nami called out, eyes wide. "He's here! Usopp's back!"
Chopper was already bouncing on his hooves. "We can finally be together again, right?"
Luffy kept his focus on Garp's ship, deflecting another cannonball with a lazy swipe of his rubbery hand. His expression remained unreadable, but there was a weight in his voice as he spoke. "I can't hear him."
Zoro, standing beside him with his swords at the ready, grunted in agreement. "Same here. Not a word."
Coby crossed his arms, shaking his head. "I don't hear anything either."
Nami blinked in surprise, her brow furrowing. "What do you mean you can't hear him? He's right there!"
Chopper looked between them, confused. "Guys?"
But the trio remained resolute, ignoring Usopp's antics. The unspoken agreement was clear: if Usopp's first words weren't an apology, they wouldn't acknowledge him.
Usopp, completely oblivious, kept going. "Ah, I know you missed me. It's okay to cry tears of joy!" He struck a heroic pose, raising his fist in the air as if waiting for applause. But none came.
Chopper's ears drooped as the realization hit him. "They really can't hear him..."
Nami bit her lip, glancing between Usopp and the others. She opened her mouth to say something but stopped, understanding their stance.
Usopp, finally noticing the lack of reaction from his crewmates, started to falter. He lowered his arm, looking confused. "Hey, what's going on? Aren't you all happy to see me?"
Luffy stayed silent, his gaze locked on the horizon as he prepared for Garp's next move. Coby and Zoro were just as focused, completely ignoring Usopp's presence.
The tension in the air thickened. Usopp, now visibly nervous, started to stammer. "W-Wait a second… you're really going to leave me?" His voice wavered, and he took a step forward, looking desperate. "Come on, guys! I'm serious!"
But still, no response.
Usopp's bravado finally crumbled. His knees hit the dock as he slumped forward, his head hanging low. "I… I'm sorry," he muttered, barely audible. "I'm so sorry."
Zoro's eyes shifted slightly, catching Luffy's gaze for a split second. The tension in his jaw eased, but he said nothing.
Usopp, now fully kneeling on the dock, spoke louder this time. "I was wrong! I'm sorry for everything I said, for leaving, for fighting with you! Please… let me come back!" His voice cracked, tears welling in his eyes.
Coby, arms still crossed, glanced at Luffy. Zoro did the same. This was what they had been waiting for.
Luffy let out a long sigh, a small grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Shishishi... now I can hear him."
Chopper's face lit up, and Nami's shoulders sagged in relief. "Finally," Nami muttered under her breath, a smile creeping onto her lips.
Luffy turned around to face Usopp, who was still on his knees, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. Stretching his arm all the way to the junkyard, he grinned wide, "Idiot, hurry up and grab my hand!" Luffy called out.
Usopp looked up, his face red and tear-streaked, but a shaky smile spread across his lips. He reached out and grabbed Luffy's extended hand. Luffy yanked him onto the ship in one swift motion. Usopp landed with a thud on the deck, and the crew crowded around, grinning.
"Welcome back, Usopp!" Chopper cheered, jumping up and down.
Nami smiled, crossing her arms, "Took you long enough."
Sanji exhaled a cloud of smoke, smirking, "We were just about to leave without you."
Usopp wiped his nose with his sleeve and stood up, laughing nervously, "I'm really sorry, everyone. I won't do that again!"
Meanwhile, Garp, watching from his ship, noticed the sails of the Straw Hat crew's ship being hoisted. One of the Marines by his side squinted toward the Thousand Sunny and asked, "Vice Admiral, are they giving up?"
Garp narrowed his eyes, observing the scene. "No," he said with a grin. "They're not giving up."
The crew started tossing out names for the new ship, though Zoro grumbled that it wasn't the right time for it. Luffy, excited as always, kicked things off with his wild suggestion. "Dumpling Gorilla Lion!" he shouted, grinning from ear to ear.
Nami rolled her eyes. "That's the worst name I've ever heard," she muttered, crossing her arms.
Zoro threw in his own suggestion, looking serious. "Lionel the Boss."
Robin, sitting calmly, simply said, "The Darkness."
Sanji leaned back, taking a drag from his cigarette. "Monsieur Sun Flower," he said with a sly smile.
Franky cut in, puffing his chest out. "That fool Iceburg thought the figurehead looked like a sun, so he suggested 'The Thousand Sunny Go.' But I've got a better name! How about 'Lion Gang Champion'? That's way cooler!"
The crew barely paid attention to Franky's input. Iceburg's suggestion of "The Thousand Sunny" seemed to resonate with everyone, and they quickly latched onto it, ignoring Franky's protests.
"That's perfect!" Luffy declared, his eyes shining with excitement. "The Thousand Sunny! It sounds strong!"
Franky groaned, realizing he'd been utterly ignored. "No one ever listens to the genius…"
