Chapter 29: CH 29: VS MARINES
The air around the docks of Whiskey Peak grew tense as Vice Admiral Momonga and Yuji squared off amidst the chaotic battlefield. The sun began to dip below the horizon, casting an orange glow over the scene, as if heralding the clash to come.
Momonga's grip tightened around the hilt of his sword, his sharp eyes locked on Yuji. "You're no ordinary pirate. Your composure, your strength… who are you really?"
Yuji chuckled, rolling his shoulders to loosen up. "Does it matter? All you need to know is that I'm not going to make this easy for you."
Momonga's response was swift, a blur of motion as he lunged forward, his blade slicing through the air with precision. Yuji sidestepped, narrowly avoiding the strike, and countered with a quick jab aimed at the Vice Admiral's chest.
Momonga deflected the punch with his sword, the force of the clash sending a small shockwave through the immediate area. "Your strength is impressive," he admitted, stepping back into a defensive stance. "But brute force alone won't be enough."
Yuji smirked. "Good thing I've got more than just brute force."
Momonga attacked again, his sword a blur as it came at Yuji from multiple angles. Each strike was calculated, leaving little room for error. Yuji used his armament-coated forearms to block the blows, the sound of steel clashing against haki ringing out like a symphony of battle.
"You're precise," Yuji said, parrying a downward slash and retaliating with a sweeping kick aimed at Momonga's midsection. "I'll give you that."
Momonga twisted his body, avoiding the kick, and countered with a powerful thrust. Yuji sidestepped again, but the blade grazed his side, drawing a thin line of blood.
"You're quick," Momonga said, his voice steady despite the intensity of the fight. "But speed means nothing without experience."
Yuji's grin widened as he touched the wound on his side. "Experience, huh? Let's see how much that helps when things heat up."
Yuji's body began to emit a faint glow, and moments later, flames erupted from his back and shoulders, dancing wildly in the fading light. The air around him grew noticeably hotter, the heat rippling in visible waves.
Momonga's eyes widened in shock. "A devil fruit user with fire-based abilities?"
Yuji's smirk deepened. "Guess what big boy" He launched forward, flames trailing behind him as he closed the distance in an instant.
With a fiery punch aimed directly at Momonga's chest, Yuji forced the Vice Admiral to leap backward. The flames from Yuji's attack scorched the ground where Momonga had stood just moments before.
Momonga frowned, his sword glowing with armament haki as he prepared for Yuji's next assault. "Whatever you are, you're dangerous. I won't hold back."
The fight escalated, with Yuji and Momonga trading blows in a flurry of fire and steel. Yuji's flames created an unpredictable element to the battle, forcing Momonga to remain on high alert.
Momonga swung his sword in a wide arc, sending a wave of compressed air toward Yuji. Yuji countered by releasing a burst of flames, the two forces colliding and dissipating in an explosion of heat and wind.
"Not bad, old man," Yuji said, his tone light despite the intensity of the battle.
Momonga didn't respond, instead closing the distance and aiming a precise strike at Yuji's shoulder. Yuji ducked under the blade, using his flames to propel himself into a spinning kick aimed at Momonga's head.
The Vice Admiral blocked the kick with his forearm, the force of the impact making him slide back a few feet. "You fight like someone who's used to being underestimated," Momonga said, his tone almost approving.
"You could say that," Yuji replied, flames licking at his fingertips as he prepared his next attack.
Yuji pressed the attack, unleashing a barrage of fiery punches and kicks. Momonga parried and dodged with skill born from years of experience, his movements precise and efficient.
Despite his best efforts, Yuji found himself unable to land a decisive blow. Each time he thought he had an opening, Momonga's sword was there to block or counter.
"You're good," Yuji admitted, stepping back to catch his breath. "Better than I expected."
Momonga's expression remained stoic. "You rely too much on your abilities. Without them, you'd already be defeated."
Yuji's grin returned. "Is that so? Then let's turn things up a notch."
The flames surrounding Yuji intensified, growing brighter and hotter. The ground beneath him began to blacken and crack from the heat.
Momonga responded by coating his entire blade in armament haki, the blackened steel gleaming ominously. "Do your worst," he said, his voice calm but firm.
"Ehh kinda scary?"
Yuji charged forward, flames roaring around him as he unleashed a powerful punch aimed at Momonga's chest. The Vice Admiral met the attack head on, his sword clashing against Yuji's haki-coated fist in a burst of sparks and heat.
The force of the collision created a shockwave that rippled through the battlefield, causing nearby marines and debris to be blown back.
Neither combatant gave an inch as they pushed against each other, their eyes locked in a battle of wills.
"You're not bad for a marine," Yuji said, his voice strained but still playful.
"And you're bad- no you will spent your life in the eternity in impel down" Momonga replied, his tone carrying a hint of respect.
With a burst of strength, Momonga broke the deadlock, slashing at Yuji's midsection. Yuji twisted his body to avoid the blade, countering with a fiery uppercut that grazed Momonga's jaw.
Both men stepped back, breathing heavily as they assessed each other.
"This isn't over," Yuji said, flames still dancing around him.
Momonga raised his sword, his expression unreadable. "No, it's not."
