Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Getting Beaten is for Your Own Good

After the Elite Training Camp's graduation ceremony, Wright finally had a rare stretch of free time. He wasted no time dragging the old man Garp over to "teach" his crew.

At that moment, Garp was happily snacking in Fleet Admiral Sengoku's office. Upon hearing Wright's invitation, his interest was piqued, and he eagerly abandoned his stolen snacks to follow Wright out.

Sengoku, now free of Garp's chaos, felt a wave of relief as he returned to his paperwork. For the first time in a while, even his handwriting looked more refined.

"Wright actually invited Garp to help train his subordinates? Not a bad way to keep that old fool occupied…" Sengoku mused, stroking his braided beard in satisfaction. Then, his expression darkened. "Wait... Wright's subordinates... Rosinante is among them!"

"That old codger Garp! If he injures Rosinante, I won't let him off!"

Wright escorted Garp to the officers-only training ground, where his team was already assembled: Rosinante, Smoker, Drake, and Kuina, who had just been picked up from the Naval Academy by Wright himself.

The Naval Academy enforced a strict boarding system, a fully closed-off military-style education model. Even close family could only visit once a month. However, due to the necessity of training her in Haki basics, Wright had specially requested a leave for Kuina to join them. A vice admiral's request was, of course, easily granted.

"Big Brother Wright!"

Before this, Wright had entrusted Kuina to Hina for care—after all, a 12-year-old girl couldn't be left in the care of three clumsy men.

"Hey, Kuina, look who I brought!"

"Ah! Grandpa Garp!"

Having grown up in the East Blue, Kuina had heard countless tales of Vice Admiral Garp. Not to mention, Garp was her senior brother's mentor.

When she first arrived at Marine Headquarters, Garp's boisterous and carefree nature had already left a deep impression, earning him the admiration of the young girl.

"Hey, Kuina!"

Caught off guard to see her, Garp hurriedly pulled out a bag of senbei. "Wright, you brat! Why didn't you tell me Kuina would be here? Lucky I always carry snacks with me…"

Garp was utterly different when dealing with young girls. He had never been this doting, even with his own grandson, Luffy! Adorable girls were clearly far more appealing than mischievous boys.

However…

"Little junior sister! I'm your senior brother. If you call Garp 'grandpa,' doesn't that make me a generation lower for no reason?" Wright protested.

Wright had been arguing this point for a while, but Garp's iron fist and Kuina's sweet smile always made him relent—this time included.

"Any objections?"

"Nope, none. Carry on."

"..."

By now, Drake had become familiar with Rosinante and Smoker, especially Rosinante. Upon learning that Drake had been one of the saviors of Law back in the day, Rosinante had developed a great fondness for him. This sped up Drake's integration into Wright's group considerably.

However, when it came to the beautiful Major Hina, Drake still couldn't meet her gaze without blushing, much to Smoker's amusement. Of course, the oblivious Smoker wasn't immune to Hina's wrath and sharp tongue in return.

Once the group had finished joking around, Wright instructed Rosinante, Smoker, and Drake to stand ready—yes, Drake had also applied to join the Haki training.

Thanks to his age and the enhancements brought by his Ancient Zoan Devil Fruit, Drake's physical strength and sensory capabilities were well above average, making him eligible to train for Haki awakening.

Kuina, on the other hand, was still focusing on physical conditioning and developing her Devil Fruit ability, so she would sit this one out. She stood on the sidelines with Hina, observing the training while occasionally chatting quietly.

Kuina held her Wado Ichimonji close as she watched. She was particularly pleased to finally see a big sister figure join her senior brother's team, though she had a nagging feeling that Hina's attention might be directed more at Captain Smoker.

On the field, Wright and Garp exchanged mischievous glances as they looked at their three targets—no, trainees. Rosinante, Smoker, and Drake couldn't help but shiver.

"Drake, shift into your beast form. Otherwise, you won't last," Wright advised.

Drake nodded, activating his ability. With a roar, he transformed into an enormous Allosaurus. His sharp teeth, claws, and muscular build showcased the terrifying might of this ancient predator.

"Whoa! Ancient Zoan types are really rare!" The group marveled, except for Garp, who simply nodded. "Hmm, big enough to hit. Should be fun!"

"..." Drake was terrified but dared not move.

"Alright," Wright began. "As I mentioned earlier, one of the best ways to train Observation Haki is to get hit. Blindfolded, of course!"

He handed out blindfolds to the trio. "Put these on. You'll need to rely on your senses to dodge attacks from me or Garp."

Tossing Garp a giant staff, Wright weighed his own weapon in his hand. "Don't worry about getting hurt—I've got you covered. Just focus on sensing. This is an opportunity most people can only dream of."

"Yes, sir!"

Bam!

Thunk!

Crash!

"Ow!"

"Ah!"

"Roar!"

The training ground quickly became a scene of carnage, with Rosinante, Smoker, and Drake—both human and beast—beaten black and blue.

"Holy Light!"

A golden radiance descended, instantly healing the group. Rosinante and Smoker were already used to the near-death-and-recovery routine, but it was Drake's first experience. He stood dazed for a moment before realizing what had happened.

"This… This is Vice Admiral Wright's ability? It's like a miracle! Perfect for training!"

Drake finally understood why this was such a rare opportunity. Training directly with Wright and Garp was even more valuable than sparring with an admiral!

"Alright, take five minutes to reflect. Focus on the sensations just before you got hit," Wright instructed.

Garp, meanwhile, cheerfully swung his massive staff. "Wright, you're right—getting hit really is the best way to train Observation Haki! And with your healing ability, they might even awaken Armament Haki in no time!"

"That's the idea," Wright replied. "Each of them has potential. I'm sure they'll succeed."

On the sidelines, Kuina paled as she watched the brutal training. "Hina, will I… will I have to train like this in the future?" she asked nervously.

Hina pursed her lips and nodded. "Probably… yes."

The thought of enduring such a regimen made Hina momentarily forget about teasing Smoker. She fell into a worried silence.

"All right, time's up! Let's continue!" Wright called, his voice brimming with enthusiasm.

Garp's hearty laughter followed. "Ready, brats? Here I come!"

Bam!

Crash!

"Ow!"

"Roar!"

And so, the scene of carnage resumed.
