Chapter 8: Chapter 8: I... I want to live!
The winds howled across the rooftop as the Straw Hat Pirates, along with Jiro, stood face-to-face with the CP9 agents. Tension crackled in the air, the standoff between the two groups escalating. The once steady ground beneath their feet now felt like the precipice of something monumental.
Luffy stood tall, his gaze unwavering as he scanned the CP9 agents. He was ready for the fight, but there was something more on his mind, something that would finally change everything for Robin.
The others gathered around him, their faces set in determination. Zoro, Sanji, Nami, and Chopper stood firm, waiting for the right moment. Jiro, standing beside them, felt the weight of what was about to happen. He had been a part of this crew for a while now, but today, something felt different. The bonds of friendship here were stronger than any challenge that lay ahead.
Spandam stood at the back, his smug smile as infuriating as ever. "You fools think you can win?" he sneered. "Robin will never leave us, and neither will you."
Robin's eyes, distant and cold, flickered with an emotion Jiro could barely understand. She was shaking, but not from fear—she was trembling with something weighing from her. And then, in a voice that seemed to carry the pain of her entire life, she spoke.
"I… I can't go back with you," Robin said, her voice barely a whisper. "I've been betrayed so many times, by those I trusted, by those who claimed to be my family. I… I'm terrified that one day, you'll see me as a burden too, and that you'll leave me just like everyone else. I'd rather die than be abandoned again."
Her words struck deep, and the entire rooftop fell silent. The Straw Hats exchanged quiet glances, each of them understanding what she meant. They had their own pasts, their own pain, but none of them had ever faced betrayal as Robin had. The unspoken truth hung in the air—her fear wasn't irrational. It was born from years of suffering.
Spandam, however, didn't care about Robin's pain. He laughed, his cruel voice echoing across the rooftop. "She's right! She's nothing but a burden! Who would ever want someone like her in their crew? You've all been fooled, but it's too late now." He pointed to the flag atop the Tower of Justice, his eyes gleaming with malice. "The World Government has over 170 affiliated nations, and they'll all be coming for you."
Luffy's gaze never wavered. He stepped forward, the weight of Spandam's words not bothering him in the slightest. He turned to Sogeking, his voice filled with unwavering resolve. "Sogeking, shoot down that flag."
Sogeking didn't hesitate. He raised his Kabuto weapon, launching a fiery missile that shot through the air, striking the flag with a burst of flames. The flag, symbolizing the power of the World Government, was consumed by the fire, and in that instant, the Straw Hat Pirates had declared war on the World Government itself.
Spandam's laughter died in his throat. His eyes widened in shock as the truth of what had just happened sank in. Robin, standing at the edge of the rooftop, looked up at the burning flag, her heart torn. The Straw Hats had just declared that they would fight for her, no matter the cost. Her heart ached, and the doubt that had plagued her for so long began to crumble.
Luffy's voice rang out across the rooftop, firm and clear. "I'm not afraid of the World Government! Robin, admit it. You want to live. You don't have to face this alone anymore."
Robin's heart skipped a beat. The pain she had carried for so long was now met with something unexpected... a chance for something better. She could feel the sincerity in Luffy's words, in the unwavering trust of the Straw Hat Pirates. She had always believed that love and friendship were fleeting, that they would leave her, but now…
Tears welled in her eyes as she stepped forward, her voice breaking. "I… I want to live! I want to be with you all. Please… take me with you!"
The weight that had held her down for so long lifted. The chains that had bound her to her past shattered. And in that moment, the Straw Hat Pirates were no longer just a crew, they were her family. The family she had always longed for.
'I used to think of pirates as selfish people, just out for treasure and adventure. But the Straw Hats... they're different. They care about each other more than anything else. And seeing them fight for Robin like this, not because they have to, but because they truly believe in her.'
Jiro stood there, watching everything unfold. The emotions, the bond between them, the way they fought for each other, it was all becoming clearer to him. The Straw Hat Pirates were not just a group of individuals. They were a family, bound together by something stronger than blood or fate. They cherished each other, even in the darkest of times. Jiro could feel the warmth of that bond spreading through him, filling the emptiness that had lingered in his heart since his arrival in this world.
As the scene before him unfolded, Jiro's resolve grew stronger. This was the kind of crew he wanted to be a part of. The kind of people he wanted to fight for. The Straw Hat Pirates weren't just a group of so called pirates. They were righteous, and they would always fight for what they believed in. Jiro's heart swelled with admiration for them. He promise to himself that he would help them and would never turn his back on them since it will go against what he believed.
As Jiro is looking at them, he slowly reach his hands towards his chest, as if trying to feel the burning that is trying to breakthrough from inside his body.
'Protect...' Jiro muttered under his breath as he silently looked at the strawhat group and Robin.
