Chapter 12: RBTC: Chapter 12
---
Shanks also gave up on the idea of having Buggy join his crew.
"Where are you two planning to set off from? Do you want me to give you a ride?"
"No need, Rayleigh-san. I'm going to set off from Loguetown."
Shanks had this idea as soon as he arrived here. Even if he didn't set off from here, he wouldn't trouble Rayleigh.
"Same here, Rayleigh-san. I don't need you to take me either."
Buggy had his own plans. He wasn't ready to set sail right now. He planned to hide his identity for a year and become a bounty hunter. He would gain experience in real combat, understand life and death, and improve his skills through battle. It would also help him integrate into this world and experience its cruelty.
This was necessary. He was originally a normal person from a peaceful era. He wasn't decisive or experienced in life-or-death situations. But these were the most essential things on the Grand Line. So, he had to overcome these shortcomings before setting sail, and bounty hunting was the best option.
Bounty hunters never lacked combat experience, and there were plenty of life-or-death battles. They also had generous bounties, which would be very useful to him. He would need money to buy a ship and other things when he set sail.
Hearing their identical answers, Rayleigh was very satisfied. They had grown up. They were all heading towards their own seas of freedom. Rayleigh was filled with pride.
The three of them didn't say anything more. There were no lingering goodbyes. Rayleigh didn't hesitate to turn and walk away, heading towards his small sailboat.
Shanks also turned and set off on his journey, to find his own crew and head towards the boundless sea.
Only Buggy remained. He watched the two figures growing farther and farther away, his eyes filled with reluctance. Although he had only been with them for a year and a half, the friendship, the guidance, and the lessons he had learned were so profound that he couldn't bear to part with them.
He took one last deep look at them, and then Buggy turned and left. He was also going to embark on his own journey, to walk his own path to strength, to make this sea tremble at his arrival.
Time flew by. Another year passed quickly. Loguetown, East Blue.
"Hey, did you hear? The bounty hunter known as 'Clown', the most famous bounty hunter in the East Blue, took down the Giant Sword Pirates, the East Blue's strongest pirate crew."
"Really? That's a 30 million berry bounty pirate. How could he take them down?"
"What's the big deal? I've heard of this 'Clown'. He even fought those Supernovas who recently rose to fame in the New World. And he didn't lose to them."
"I heard about that too. They say the fight was incredible. In the end, neither of them could defeat the other."
A group of civilians were chatting on the side of the road, discussing the bounty hunter 'Clown' who had become famous in the East Blue a year ago.
"Hey, look! Is that 'Clown'?"
A civilian suddenly stood up excitedly, pointing in a direction and shouting.
Everyone's eyes followed the direction of his finger.
They saw a young man, 1.7 meters tall. He wasn't particularly muscular, but he gave off an impression of strength.
The young man was walking towards them. He was carrying a bloodstained bag filled with things.
His height wasn't anything special in the world of One Piece. It was actually on the shorter side. What drew attention was his face. First, his red nose was the most striking feature. Second, his face was painted with clown makeup. This image made people immediately guess who he was.
"Shh, be quiet. I heard he doesn't like people calling him 'Clown'. Don't let him hear you. You might get a beating."
"Alright, alright, we got it."
(ShixT9: Buggy with +10000 aura)
...
The one walking on the road was Buggy. He had to adopt this appearance. He had originally planned to find a mask to hide his true face, but it turned out he was overthinking it. His red nose couldn't fit any masks, not even half masks. It made him look even more comical. And it was too obvious. If anyone noticed, it would attract more attention and make it easier for him to be exposed.
There was no other way. And for his own image, Buggy directly used the image of Jerome, the Joker from Gotham. This Joker image was acceptable to him and to people in the world of One Piece. It also effectively concealed his red nose and wouldn't raise suspicion. People who didn't know him might think he was someone who liked to disguise themselves as a clown. He thus earned the moniker "Clown".
Buggy's life over the past year had been quite colorful. When Roger's execution was over, some of the pirates didn't leave in a hurry. Among them were Gekko Moria, Crocodile, and Dracule Mihawk.
Hearing that these people were still in the East Blue, Buggy prepared himself and went to find them one by one to challenge them. Of course, he was prepared to use the first two to exchange for bounties if he had the chance.
The results weren't entirely what he had hoped for, but they didn't disappoint him. He had seen how extraordinary these people were in their youth. They weren't the same as they were later in the story, when they could be easily defeated.
The first person he found was Gekko Moria. His physique was completely different from the obese figure he would become twenty years later. He was tall and imposing. Although he wasn't muscular, he exuded a lean and mean aura. His spirit and demeanor commanded respect. And there were many crew members on his ship. Judging by their aura, they weren't easy to deal with.
Buggy found him and didn't attack immediately. He didn't have the upper hand against the current Moria and his crew. If he attacked rashly, he might be the one who got left behind.
Buggy found Moria and explained his intention to challenge him. Moria readily agreed. If it had been twenty years later, Moria might not have even listened to him. He would have attacked directly and wouldn't have accepted his so-called challenge.
The battle lasted for more than a day. Both sides were exhausted, and the battle ended in a draw.
Buggy couldn't defeat the current Moria. Moria could already use most of his future techniques, and he was very proficient at them. His stamina was also very good. He had mastered both Armament and Observation Haki, especially his Observation Haki, which was even more impressive.
The current Moria was at the peak of his combat ability, experience, stamina, and Devil Fruit powers. Although he hadn't reached his peak yet, he was still formidable. Buggy's current strength couldn't defeat him.
Buggy relied on his Chop-Chop Fruit, Rokushiki, swordsmanship, and his increasingly proficient Haki to finally draw with Moria.
If Moria's crew had joined the fight, Buggy might have had to flee.
