Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Behind the Darkness
As Dante and his team made their way through the ruins of the Brotherhood of Shadows' headquarters, there wasn't a sound to be heard above the smoke in the air. All was quiet, but the silence was not a relief, it was a trap. The Brotherhood of Shadows was not an organisation that was easily destroyed.
Dante, holding his pistols tightly, moved cautiously through the crumbling walls and ruined rooms. Kaelene and Ryker were scanning the perimeter, providing security. However, inside Dante, he sensed that something was not yet complete. It shouldn't have been this easy.
"Something is wrong," Dante said in a whisper. "They weren't an organisation that would collapse this fast."
Ryker nodded, putting his sniper rifle down. "Yeah, something's missing. Whatever it is, it's only the beginning."
Dante's eyes moved to the old command room, the centre of the headquarters. When he entered, the floor was blackened and the walls were crumbling. But one thing caught his attention: An old desk set up in the room and a set of classified documents on it.
As he approached the documents, Kaelene suddenly warned Dante. "Dante, look out, there's still someone out there!"
Suddenly, figures emerged from the walls. The surviving members of the Brotherhood of Shadows were cloaked in darkness, armour and weapons at the ready. Dante quickly drew his pistols and fired a shot. But the guns were ready to prevent anyone from spotting him.
Dante made a new plan, retreating quickly, shielding himself from the fire. "They're really not finished. We need to find our way out!"
Protecting each other, the team moved again. Ryker began shooting his enemies with his rifle, while Kaelene swung her swords. Dante was pulling the triggers on his pistols at breakneck speed, trying to neutralise the enemies. But their enemies were so strong that they had to take a few steps back each time.
"Dante, what are we doing?" shouted Kaelene as she took down an enemy. "Are we going to run again?"
Dante's eyes darkened, but he had a plan. "No. This time, we're not going to give them any room to fall back. Ryker, give me a target."
Ryker pointed to a target, and Dante quickly pointed his pistols in that direction. With two quick shots, he took out the enemy leader.
Kaelene quickly moved away from the group, leaving the enemies behind. "Let's finish this!"
As the group moved forward, another figure emerged from the deepest corner of the headquarters. It was a woman wearing a long black cloak that covered her face.
When Dante saw the cloak, the tension in him increased. "Who is it?" he asked.
The woman approached him step by step, her every move displaying a deep composure. "I am the last hope of the Brotherhood of Shadows," she said, her voice cold. "Would you dare to kill me?"
Dante stared intently into her eyes, his pistols trained. "May I know your name?"
The woman produced a shield from beneath her cloak. She laughed. "My name is Elysia. And yes, I have courage."
Dante moved towards her, drawing his pistols. "Then show me, Elysia. I really want to destroy the Brotherhood of Shadows' last remaining hope."
The woman made a lunge, raising her shield. Steel and steel clashed once more. Elysia closed in on Dante, knocking his pistols from his hands with a hard blow. Dante, only cold-blooded, took a step back and returned the blow with his arms.
"This is indeed a war," Dante said, smiling at her. "But you will lose this battle."
Elysia moved quickly and tried to strike again. But Dante, without losing his composure, caught the gaps and defeated her with a final blow. Elysia fell to the ground.
Dante slowly placed his pistols back in his waistband as he looked at her. "The Brotherhood of Shadows is over. And you are now a memory of the past."
