Chapter 87: A Beast in Human Disguise
“Mr. Zhou, what’s the matter? We haven’t arrived yet. Miss Zhao specifically told me to make sure you got to your destination,” the Zhao family driver asked in confusion.
“Stop the car, now!”
Zhou Lang shouted, not having time to explain. He suspected that Li Mengxue was in danger and was extremely anxious. After all, they had shared an intimate moment, and he had developed feelings for her.
“What’s going on?”
The driver, not the sharpest, kept asking questions, still not stopping the car.
Time was running out. If the car Li Mengxue had taken another route, Zhou Lang wouldn’t have been able to catch up. He couldn’t wait any longer. With a powerful thrust of his right palm, he slammed it against the car door beside him.
Bang!
Though it seemed like he hadn’t used much force, the car door flew off with a loud crash.
The driver, shocked and wide-eyed, almost lost control of the steering wheel. Zhou Lang, as nimble as a leopard, leaped out of the passenger seat.
It wasn’t just the Zhao family driver who was stunned; pedestrians and other drivers on the road were equally terrified. It was likely a sight they had never witnessed in their lives.
After leaping out of the car, Zhou Lang dodged a large truck barreling toward him. The truck driver, seeing someone in front of him, slammed on the brakes, causing a screeching sound as the truck skidded several meters.
The truck driver thought he had caused a fatal accident, but when he checked, no one was in front of the truck.
Still uneasy, he got out to check, but there was no one to be found around or under the vehicle.
“Am I seeing ghosts?!”
The truck driver muttered to himself, breaking into a cold sweat before driving off.
Zhou Lang, having dodged the truck, sprinted down the sidewalk. Though he was running, his speed was faster than the fastest car on the road. Under the cover of night, he moved like a wisp of smoke, passing by pedestrians who didn’t even notice him. His speed was unimaginable. This was the ability of a cultivator — when running at full strength, it was almost like flying, leaving even the most powerful martial artists in the dust.
Meanwhile, the Zhao family driver narrowly avoided causing an accident. His hands trembled as he barely missed crashing into a nearby vehicle.
“No wonder even Elder Zhao treats Zhou Lang with such respect. His power is terrifying!”
The driver, finally regaining his senses, pulled over to check the car and arrange for repairs.
…
A few minutes later, Zhao Zhigang’s BMW drove past Lover’s Bar but didn’t stop. Instead, it continued onward. Outwardly, Zhao Zhigang appeared gentlemanly, but in reality, he was a beast in human disguise.
When he helped Li Mengxue into the car, she had already lost consciousness, completely unable to resist. Earlier, he had spiked her drink with a sedative that would knock her out within ten minutes.
This man was bold. Seeing that Li Mengxue had lost all awareness, he gripped her chin and forced her mouth open to administer another drug.
What Zhou Lang had seen from inside his car was this very scene, which is why he knew something was wrong with Li Mengxue. He had jumped out of his vehicle and followed Zhao Zhigang’s car to investigate.
The drug Zhao Zhigang administered would wake her within half an hour, but it would also induce intense physical desires. It was a potent aphrodisiac, and even the most chaste woman would become wild, like an actress in an adult film.
Most wouldn’t dare do something this reckless, but Zhao Zhigang, backed by his wealth, had done it many times. Women who had fallen victim to his schemes either chose to stay silent or were silenced with hush money, usually tens of thousands of yuan.
Zhou Lang followed Zhao Zhigang’s BMW for about ten minutes until it pulled into a five-star hotel called Lin Yin Ju.
Naturally, Zhou Lang discreetly followed them inside.
However, he didn’t intervene immediately. He still didn’t know the nature of the relationship between Li Mengxue and Zhao Zhigang. If Zhao Zhigang was her new boyfriend and she had simply drunk too much and needed rest, Zhou Lang barging in could ruin everything. It might even lead to Li Mengxue resenting him.
So, he decided to observe the situation first. After all, with his current strength, navigating the mundane world was a piece of cake.
Once Zhao Zhigang had booked a room and gotten into the elevator, Zhou Lang approached the hotel’s front desk.
“Sir, how can I assist you?”
The receptionist greeted him politely. The service at a five-star hotel was top-notch.
“I’d like to book a room, one next to the couple who just checked in,” Zhou Lang said, pulling out his credit card.
In the past, he wouldn’t have had the money to stay in a place like this. But recently, he had sold a piece of jade from his family’s heirloom for 50,000 yuan. He still had over 30,000 left, and since his ancestors had left him plenty of jade unsuitable for formations, he was now far from short on cash.
“Sir, our hotel values customer privacy. I can book you another room,” the receptionist said, politely declining his request. She quickly realized that Zhou Lang was trying to follow Li Mengxue and Zhao Zhigang.
“If you do as I ask, this money is yours,” Zhou Lang said, placing 2,000 yuan on the counter.
“I’ll process your check-in immediately,” the receptionist replied, her eyes lighting up as she pocketed the cash.
Zhao Zhigang had booked room 807, so Zhou Lang secured room 808. In this world, there are very few things that money can’t solve.
“Sir, Mr. Zhao Zhigang has a close relationship with our boss. You’d better not cause any trouble here, or you could end up in a lot of problems,” the receptionist warned as she handed him the room key, making sure no one else was around. She was concerned for her safety and didn’t want to be implicated.
“Thanks for the heads-up. To be honest, I’m a private investigator. I don’t do anything illegal. I’m just checking on that woman to see who she’s with. Her boyfriend, by the way, is no pushover either. But whatever happens between them is none of my business, so don’t worry,” Zhou Lang smiled, quickly figuring out from her words that the man who had taken Li Mengxue upstairs was named Zhao Zhigang.
Hearing this, the receptionist felt relieved.
…
By the time Zhao Zhigang had helped Li Mengxue into room 807, Zhou Lang was already in room 808.
He didn’t act rashly. Instead, he pulled out X-ray Talisman to monitor the situation in the room next door. With the talisman in hand and his extraordinary hearing, it was as though he were watching a live broadcast of everything happening in the neighboring room.
Inside room 807, Zhao Zhigang had already placed the unconscious Li Mengxue onto the bed.
Today, Li Mengxue was dressed in her usual office attire: a crisp white blouse, a black pencil skirt, black stockings, and high heels — mature and sexy.
“Li Mengxue, tonight, I’m going to enjoy myself thoroughly,” Zhao Zhigang muttered with a lecherous grin, completely unaware that in the next room, a powerful cultivator was watching his every move!
