Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Fire Fang and Solar Power

The defeat of Staravia significantly dampened Zach's confidence, especially since he couldn't even inflict any damage on Charmander, leaving him feeling frustrated.

Throughout the battle, Staravia was constantly forced to defend against Dragon Rage or Hidden Power, unable to gain control over the situation.

"Should I train a Pokemon with specialized Special moves?" Zach murmured to himself. He did have a Bronzor, which excelled in defense but lacked offensive capabilities.

Zach decided it was crucial to capture a Pokemon proficient in long-range Special attacks. Both Axew and Staravia were primarily close combat Pokemon; encountering opponents like Charmander left them at a significant disadvantage.

While Zach pondered his strategy, Lian sensed an impending evolution, as if something within him was about to burst forth. In the next moment, his consciousness began gradually fading away.

A layer of white light enveloped Lian's entire body, covering his limbs, tail, head, and every part uniformly.

"He's evolving," Kalia observed, somewhat surprised yet not entirely. After all, Grovyle had evolved some time ago, and Charmander hadn't slacked off either, consistently training hard through daily battles. It seemed the time for evolution had arrived.

Everyone paused to watch Charmander's evolution, as the glowing light obscured the process. They could barely perceive its outline growing larger, taking on the shape of a Charmeleon.

Lian felt his consciousness fading slightly, but he was aware of the changes occurring within him. His arms elongated, tail extended, and body grew taller.

As the white glow dissipated, Lian's new form emerged - unmistakably that of a standard Charmeleon.

He stretched out his claws, now truly formidable with sharp, pointed nails. With a gentle swipe, it seemed as though he could tear through the air itself.

The flame on his tail blazed more intensely, especially reflecting his elated mood, burning fiercely.

For some reason, a surge of aggression rose within Lian, akin to boiling blood, making him eager for an intense battle.

"It evolved!" Seeing Charmander transform into a Charmeleon, Zach lost all remaining confidence and his fighting spirit waned.

"Please send out your Pokémon," Julian urged Zach, noting the complete evolution of Charmander into a Charmeleon.

Zach tossed a Poké Ball, releasing Axew onto the ground. Having fully recovered from its injuries and rested extensively inside the Poké Ball, Axew was now alert and ready.

"Axew, use Dragon Claw." Zach no longer held much hope but had to continue the battle. He suddenly realized the importance of having diverse Pokemon in his team, not solely focusing on close combat specialists.

A Pokemon with strong attack moves but slow speed becomes vulnerable, essentially serving as a target while watching its opponent unleash attacks effortlessly.

Zach's assessment wasn't entirely wrong; it just happened that he encountered Lian. Against other Pokemon at the same level, they wouldn't possess such rapid speed, and even if they did, their output wouldn't be nearly as powerful.

The rest of the battle was straightforward. Lian unleashed Dragon Breath, swiftly defeating Axew. Although Lian wished for Axew to keep using Rest, aiming to farm more damage rewards, the overwhelming disparity made it clear that only a fool would repeatedly expose Axew to Dragon Breath's harm.

Feeling slightly disappointed, Lian once again used Dragon Breath to decisively defeat Axew, rendering it incapable of continuing the fight.

The Rest move is typically most effective on Pokemon with high Defense and Special Defense stats, along with substantial Stamina, like Snorlax, for example.

After using defensive-enhancing moves, Snorlax can then employ Rest to recover its Stamina. This strategy makes it incredibly difficult for opponents to deal significant damage, showcasing a useful tactic in battling Snorlax.

"Axew is unable to continue battling. Kalia wins!" Julian declared Kalia's victory, bringing the battle to an end.

Lian was highly satisfied; this time, his evaluation score should be quite impressive, at least not lower than the one he received during the Weezing battle.

Having evolved into Charmeleon now, Lian tested his new running speed and found it significantly faster. Clearly, his abilities had greatly improved with evolution.

Zach turned and left, determined to capture a stronger Pokemon after his defeat.

Kalia approached Lian, smiling gently as she touched the horn-like protrusion on his head, saying, "Now you feel less comfortable to touch after evolving."

Instantly, Lian shook off Kalia's hand. With his evolution, he finally sported a horn instead of being a bald Dragonair anymore—a definite improvement.

At that moment, Julian released his own Charmeleon. Comparing them, both trainers noticed how remarkably similar their Charmeleons appeared, almost identical.

"Don't forget about tomorrow," Julian's Charmeleon reminded him as it walked over. The two Charmeleons then began discussing the upcoming Extreme Speed Conference.

Since Lian had already agreed, he wouldn't go back on his word, especially considering the enticing rewards for the Extreme Speed Conference.

At the Pokemon Hotel.

After spending the entire day at the Blue Grasslands, Lian felt quite exhausted. Upon returning to his room, he wasted no time and immediately collapsed onto the bed for a deep sleep.

With tomorrow's Extreme Speed Conference approaching, Lian couldn't help but feel anticipation. In his dreams, he envisioned himself triumphantly winning first place, becoming the most illustrious Pokemon in Falcon City.

Midnight arrived, and as usual, Lian's consciousness entered the System space. He checked today's combat rating and promptly examined his data panel, noticing significant improvements.

Charmeleon

Type: Fire

Gender: Male

Level: Lv. 16

Abilities: Blaze / Solar Power (Dimmed)

Moves: Growl, Scratch, Ember (20/30), Smokescreen, Dragon Breath (21/30), Dragon Rage (20/30), Swift, Hidden Power Rock/Grass..., Fire Fang (Dimmed)

Ability Stats: Stamina 446, Attack 405, Defense 387, Special Attack 584, Special Defense 408, Speed 584

The Ability Solar Power could now be activated, but Lian was unsure of the exact Combat Points required, so he decided not to activate it immediately. Apart from Solar Power, after evolving, Charmeleon also gained access to Fire Fang.

With his evolution, Lian's speed and Special Attack base stats became identical, resulting in both abilities having the same value of 584 points. Just one more level up, and they would reach the six-hundred mark.

Comparing to Grovyle's current speed ability value, Lian was significantly higher by 80 points, with Grovyle at 504 speed points.

Despite this advantage, Lian still felt uncertain, knowing that many Pokemon in the Extreme Speed Conference might surpass his level. His current speed may not be enough.

"No worries, the Extreme Speed Conference has group stages for advancement. I'll have opportunities to further enhance my speed," reassured Lian.

As a major racing event, the Extreme Speed Conference couldn't possibly conclude within just a day or two, giving him ample time to continue improving.

Moreover, it was important not to overestimate the Pokemon of beginner trainers. Most likely, their Pokemon wouldn't reach maximum speed potential, relying primarily on their level advantages.

Today's combat rating was B+, earning him a reward of 1,525 Combat Points. Currently, he had a total of 1,563 Combat Points.

Axew's level had reached 24, which was quite high, while Staravia was slightly behind at level 22. However, due to Lian's mid-battle evolution, the System adjusted its calculations based on his evolved base stats and abilities.

This resulted in negative bonuses for both species reward and ability reward, deducting a significant amount of Combat Points. Otherwise, the combat rating would have been even higher.

So far, Lian had not yet obtained more than two thousand Combat Points in a single instance, suggesting that surpassing two thousand might correspond to an A-grade rating.

"Let's start with Fire Fang."

With only around one thousand Combat Points, Lian first spent 10 points to learn Fire Fang, then used another hundred points to increase its proficiency to 20.

Next, he raised the proficiency of Hidden Power (Rock) to 20 as well. During today's battle, due to low proficiency with Hidden Power (Rock), Staravia managed to evade several times.

It's crucial to enhance the proficiency of frequently used moves. With the Extreme Speed Conference starting tomorrow, encountering numerous flying-type Pokemon and potential battles were likely scenarios. Therefore, being well-prepared remained essential.

With 1,353 Combat Points remaining, Lian decided to try activating the Solar Power Ability. In outdoor battles during sunny weather, it could potentially yield remarkable effects.

He gently tapped the plus sign next to Solar Power, instantly illuminating it. Simultaneously, his Combat Points dropped by 1,000, leaving him with only 353 points.

Lian didn't feel any regret; Solar Power is a formidable ability. Although it has drawbacks, the benefits far outweigh them.

Once in a sunny environment, combined with high-powered Special Attack moves, Lian's overall offensive output would significantly increase by several tiers.

Note that it specifically enhances Special Attack moves, not just Fire-type moves. While using Fire-type moves under sunny conditions provides a boost and seems more advantageous, Solar Power amplifies Special Attack abilities, which is its true strength.

With over three hundred Combat Points left, Lian chose not to linger further in the System space. All preparations were complete, now awaiting the commencement of the Extreme Speed Conference.
