Pokemon Earth’s Parallel World: Dragon Trainer

Chapter 97 – Kanraku’s Trainer Potential

BANG!

Both collided; Gyarados lost as he took the hit and stepped back, while Blastoise won the clash once again. Gyarados already knew that the Blastoise in front of him was hard to beat, so he started to spin as he used Dragon Dance.

"That is… Partner use, huh, I forgot," Kanraku recognized the Gyarados' move. He was about to use a move, but he forgot which one it was.

"Professor, no time to think, interrupt him!" Floyd urgently shouted in panic. If Gyarados completed his move, everyone would be at risk.

"Use Hydro Pump," Kanraku, having no time to think of another move, just shouted what he knew.

Bang!

The good thing was Blastoise managed to interrupt Gyarados at the very last minute.

ROAR!

Gyarados roared in anger and then used Thrash.

"This," Kanraku hesitated, uncertain of the next move he should command, then hurriedly said, "Partner, use Protect!"

'This is bad. It was the wrong move,' Floyd thought, panicked. "Everyone, run away!"

Then Floyd and his Pokémon ran back.

BANG!

Blastoise and Gyarados clashed, and both were evenly matched, but it was not enough for Gyarados, and he hit Blastoise again. Blastoise was forced to defend, but he stepped back, and then immediately, Gyarados took the last shot.

"Partner, use Hydro Pump," Kanraku didn't know what to do and hurriedly commanded, but it was too late.

BANG!

Blastoise flew away, and his back hit Kanraku as they both flew together.

"Professor," Floyd hurriedly ran towards them, "Professor, are you still okay? Let me help you. Blastoise, you go battle by yourself; you don't need to follow the professor's instructions," He decided not to allow Kanraku to instruct Blastoise.

Although they had been partners for a long time, Kanraku was still new to commanding Pokémon. And since Blastoise's level was too high, the intensity of the battle was too high. It would not give Kanraku enough time to think about the next move. It was much better to let Blastoise handle it alone since he had more experience.

Then, as he helped Kanraku, Gyarados started spinning. They knew it was too late, so Blastoise smashed his shell as he used Shell Smash. But Gyarados was the first to complete his move and then rushed toward Blastoise using Crunch. When Blastoise had just finished using Shell Smash, he had no choice but to hurriedly activate his Protect Move.

BANG!

Blastoise flew back as he got hit by it. The Protect move was not invincible as it was in the game; there was a limitation to it depending on the strength and level of the one using it. Currently, because using Shell Smash had exchanged power for lowered defense, Blastoise was at a disadvantage. In addition, since Gyarados had the Dragon Dance buff to increase both attack and speed, defending with lower def and sp. def is not good. It was natural for Blastoise to lose.

But Blastoise hurriedly used his Rapid Spin to come back. Gyarados used his Aqua Tail, but Blastoise started spinning to avoid it, then continued to spin around Gyarados, immediately stopping to hit him with a Hydro Pump.

BANG!

Blastoise already had a torrent, so the damage he dealt to Gyarados had increased.

ROAR!

Gyarados screamed in agony as he used Twister toward him. Blastoise was in deep trouble as his body started to spin along with the Twister. Then, surprisingly, Kanraku, who was held by Floyd, stood up and shouted, "Partner, you must take advantage of your situation and use Rapid Spin!"

Blastoise, hearing Kanraku's command, followed his instruction and used Rapid Spin. Blastoise spun so fast compared to the normal Rapid Spin move. Gyarados used his Hyper Beam towards him, but as Blastoise was about to get hit, he used the power of speed to jump.

"That's so high!" Floyd exclaimed. After a moment of realization, he added, "I see now! Blastoise is using himself as a propeller. With the boost from Twister and by employing Rapid Spin, he's using that force to soar into the air."

"Huh, it's fortunately, it's worked," Kanraku sighed in relief upon seeing this. He had made a lot of mistakes, but in the end, he had made the correct decision at last.

Blastoise managed to avoid the Hyper Beam, then unleashed a Hydro Pump towards Gyarados.

Feeling defiant, Gyarados rushed towards him, using Crunch.

BANG!

Gyarados slammed into the ground. Just as he was about to rise, he received a Rapid Spin.

BANG!

ROAR!

Gyarados screamed in pain. Not only that, but he also received another attack: Aqua Jet.

BANG!

Gyarados fell unconscious.

Exhausted, Blastoise dropped to the ground.

"Partner! Are you okay?" Kanraku ran to him, regretting not commanding him properly. "I'm sorry, partner, it's my fault. I didn't command you properly. I think I don't deserve to be a trainer," he said, activating his power to heal Blastoise.

"Blas-toise," Blastoise shook his head slowly, as if to say he was fine.

"Next time, I will not command anymore," Kanraku lowered his head, feeling ashamed of himself.

From behind, Floyd truly admired Blastoise's tenacity. He had yet to see him lose, even when at a disadvantage. He recalled a time when Blastoise almost perished under a barrage of missiles yet still managed to stand and destroy five helicopters.

He suddenly realized that Blastoise also possessed two Genetic skills similar to those of Dratini and Swablu, making Kanraku's Blastoise talented in his own right.

He walked towards Blastoise and poured Healing Powder onto him, noting that there were only two doses remaining. He then poured some into Gyarados' mouth and said to Kanraku, "To be honest, you surprised me, professor. Especially with the last move you commanded Blastoise to use. It seems you have a talent for being a Trainer."

"Don't fool me. I almost fooled myself; that last one was just luck," Kanraku blushed as he used his power to heal Blastoise.

"It's not mere luck; it's a trainer's instinct. When faced with dire circumstances, a trainer's creativity in command emerges. Only a skilled trainer can achieve that. Your previous commands weren't the best, but it's understandable since you're still getting to know Blastoise. Familiarizing yourself with his moves, preferences, and mannerisms will undoubtedly aid you in giving better commands," Floyd consoled him.

"Training requires patience; it's not an overnight process," Floyd remarked.

Kanraku felt relieved hearing Floyd's consoling words but still sighed, "I might not meet his expectations because I'm a bit busy with my research."

"Professor, why not consider training beasts as a form of research? By training with Blastoise, you'll undoubtedly gain deeper insights into him. Dedicate a few days a week to training and engaging with Blastoise. Don't confine yourself to the lab, focusing solely on research. How can you validate your research if you're always inside? It's as if you're presenting ideas without concrete evidence," Floyd commented.

"I conduct research grounded in tangible evidence, relying on trial and error," Kanraku countered.

"I understand, Professor. What I'm saying is a bit metaphorical, but there's actual truth to it. By training and battling with your beasts, you'll come to understand their habits, temperament, preferences, and more," Floyd clarified.

Kanraku paused, reflecting on Floyd's advice. "I'll take your words to heart. But for now, what do we do about them?"

Floyd let out a sigh. "They're incredibly stubborn, more than I anticipated. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree," he remarked, then turned to Horsea, giving her a gentle pat. "And that includes you too, young one. Truly a family of the stubborn."

"Horsea~" Horsea just smiled and jumped onto his head.

Floyd smiled at this and then looked at Kanraku. "It seems your Blastoise really needs to stay here a lot; otherwise, no one can stop these two stubborn Father-son,"

"I also need to stay here a lot," Kanraku sighed.

"Me too," Floyd nodded.
