Pokemon : I Am A Breeder/Champion

Chapter 3: 3. Charmander

Humming a little tune, Evan left the school holding the soaked egg and his various certificates.

He walked out of the school gate and looked back at the university behind him.

Evan couldn't help but sigh.

Graduated.

From now on, being a Trainer or whatever had nothing to do with him.

Shaking his head, Evan didn't dwell on it.

Hadn't he already decided?

Make money first, and maybe later he could become a Trainer.

As long as you have money, training Pokémon shouldn't be a problem, right?

He already had a plan.

Now that he'd graduated from college, he'd go back to the orphanage to help out.

Take care of the kids and plant trees, or something like that.

Hmm...

Lost in thought, Evan walked toward the bus stop.

His classmates had graduated and left as well.

Some had already become Trainers and set off on their journeys.

Maybe one day he'd see one of them on the news, having become an amazing Trainer, and realize it was someone from his class.

Then again, some of his classmates might just fade into the background.

Even the strongest of them had given up on becoming a Trainer. What about the others?

During training battles, none of them seemed particularly strong.

A bunch of weaklings!

I'm no longer aiming to be a Trainer, so what can they do?

...

Sitting on the bus, Evan gazed at the passing scenery, lost in thought.

Outside, he could see some wild Pokémon now and then.

Occasionally, Trainers would ride their Pokémon down the road.

It all seemed so peaceful.

It was such a shame to live in a world like this and not become a Trainer, all because he had no money.

If only he had some...

That was probably what most people thought.

Evan glanced at the Pokémon egg in his hand and the few Poké Balls in his pocket.

They were all gifts from the old professor.

Regular Poké Balls and even an Great Ball.

It was enough for now.

The school had given these gadgets to the professor, and since he had no use for them, he passed them on to Evan.

Evan silently made a note to repay Professor Ethan someday.

After all, Poké Balls and a Pokémon Egg weren't cheap.

Even though they were given out by the school, they weren't handed out every month.

Each one cost thousands of dollars.

At most, it was probably meant as a parting gift.

Evan didn't really know much about that.

Before he left, Professor Ethan had given him six Poké Balls.

The message was clear.

The professor still wanted him to become a Trainer.

Evan sighed and looked down at the egg in his hand.

"If you don't have money, how can you become an amazing Trainer?"

"You agree, don't you, Charmander?"

...

"Pfft!"

Evan's sigh was met with sudden laughter.

There was no one else in the bus, except for a girl sitting behind him.

But Evan hadn't noticed her.

Startled by the laughter, Evan turned around.

He saw a very pretty girl.

She had her hair styled like a Pidgey's feathers, a baby face, big eyes, and blue hair.

For a moment, Evan was stunned.

She seemed like a really nice girl.

From her demeanor, she was definitely someone special.

"Hehe."

"Hello."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to laugh."

Seeing Evan look at her, she quickly apologized.

She hadn't meant to eavesdrop.

Evan shook his head.

"It's fine."

"There's no one else on the bus."

"I was just joking."

The idea of a Charmander storing water was pretty funny.

It almost sounded like something out of an anime.

A Water Shuriken taking down a Charizard in one hit—it was hilarious.

"Charmander's ability is Blaze, and its Hidden Ability is Solar Power," the girl said, smiling.

"Are you a senior who just graduated?"

"Why did you suddenly say that this egg is a Water-type Charmander?"

"Is there a story behind it?"

She was a little curious.

Her eyes fell on the egg in Evan's hand.

A Charmander egg?

She had seen them before, and it did look like one.

However, the color seemed a little different.

There was a hint of blue.

Seeing this, she paused for a moment.

Something seemed off about the egg.

As a breeder, she could tell right away.

Evan didn't try to hide it either.

Instead, he said with a bit of despair:

"Yeah, there's a big problem."

"I heard these were Charmander eggs fished out of the sea."

"Isn't that ridiculous?"

As he said this, Evan couldn't help but complain.

How long had it been soaking in water, and yet it wasn't broken?

This made no sense at all!

Hmm…

At this moment, the girl didn't know what to say.

The eggshell had turned this color, but it still wasn't broken?

She had never seen anything like it.

Even if it existed, it would usually be cracked by now.

...

Evan didn't continue talking to her.

He wasn't too interested in chatting with random girls.

Women would only slow him down when it came to tossing Poké Balls.

Of course, he didn't mind them—especially if the ball was big.

This girl certainly caught his interest.

But still... she was a stranger.

He wasn't sure if she'd be cool or a bit annoying.

So Evan didn't think much more about it.

Sophia, however, looked at Evan curiously.

She found him quite interesting.

But seeing that Evan had no intention of continuing the conversation, she didn't push it.

The two of them remained silent for the rest of the ride. If they met again, maybe they'd have another chance to talk.

...

The bus soon arrived at Evan's stop.

He stood up and got off the bus, heading toward the orphanage.

They were already in the suburbs.

Besides the orphanage nearby, there were just a few scattered residents.

Mostly, the area was full of forests and orchards.

There were also a few villas for wealthy people, but they were far from the orphanage.

Evan was very familiar with this place.

He could walk to the orphanage with his eyes closed.

As the girl on the bus watched Evan leave, a thoughtful expression crossed her face.

"An orphanage?"

"Hmm..."

She had heard that the director of that orphanage had passed away.

Was this the college student who had taken over?

It had to be him.

What an amazing person.

With that thought, a small smile appeared on Sophia's face.

But she didn't dwell on it for long.

She put on her headphones again, picked up her phone, and continued reading.

...

"I'm back."

Evan returned to the orphanage and opened the door.

Hearing Evan's voice, a few little kids poked their heads out from inside.

When they saw it was him, they all rushed out excitedly.

"Brother Evan!!"

In a flash, more than a dozen children surrounded him.

The oldest was only 12 years old.
