Pokemon : I Am A Breeder/Champion

Chapter 6: 6. What A Misfortune

Evan spent several hours sorting through more than a dozen mid- to low-end energy cube recipes.

He planned to use these energy cube formulas to register patents and then make money.

In this world, patent regulations were very strict.

If you wanted to apply for a patent, you had to submit samples for testing.

The patent certificate would only be issued once it was confirmed that the formula was original and didn't overlap with the existing database at the patent office.

After registering the patent, it would belong to Evan for the next five years, during which only he could profit from it.

After five years, once the patent expired, others could access the formula and use it for profit, leaving Evan with no claim over it.

But five years would be more than enough for Evan to make a lot of money.

He also had countless energy cube recipes stored in his mind.

He wasn't worried about anyone cracking his formulas.

If they did, he'd simply bring out another one.

No big deal.

After organizing the energy cube recipes, Evan nodded to himself.

The next step was to prepare the samples.

The ingredients for these recipes were common, and Evan could source them all from the orphanage's orchard.

Even the rare Beedrill honey could be found in the mountains nearby.

So, it wasn't a big problem.

With all the raw materials on hand, it was time to get started.

It was still early, so he figured he'd gather the materials later...

After preparing everything, Evan got up and left, gathering the necessary tools.

He went downstairs, grabbed a few things, and headed towards the orchard in the back mountain.

Seeing Evan's actions, a group of little kids suddenly perked up.

"Brother Evan, where are you going?"

"Are you going to pick fruit?"

"I want to come too!!"

"Wait for me, I'm coming as well."

They quickly realized what Evan was planning.

He was going to the orchard.

So, they all decided to follow him.

Evan didn't refuse when he saw their enthusiasm.

"Alright, let's go together."

"But remember, no running around, okay?"

Even though Evan was happy to bring the kids along, he knew they needed a reminder.

They often played around the orchard and were familiar with the rules.

Even if Evan hadn't said anything, they knew what to do.

After all, the back mountain was home to many wild Pokémon.

Sometimes, Pokémon would even come to the orchard to steal berries.

Of course, the kids understood the risks.

After hearing Evan's instructions, they quickly agreed.

"Got it, Brother Evan."

"We'll behave."

"Of course, we know the rules."

"We come here every day, we're not going to wander off."

"What if a Beedrill attacks us?"

"We're not that careless."

The kids chattered endlessly around Evan.

Hearing their words, Evan smiled.

"Alright, let's go."

"We'll pick some berries today, and I'll turn them into energy cubes tomorrow."

"Let's move!"

With that, Evan led the way out.

When the kids heard that Evan was going to make energy cubes, they became even more excited.

"Huh?"

"Brother Evan, can you really make energy cubes?"

"Of course, he can, dummy. He already graduated."

"Yeah, he definitely knows how to make them."

"If you sell the energy cubes, you'll have money."

"I want to eat candied berries!"

"I want to drink Moomoo Milk too!"

"Brother Evan, will you buy some for us?"

(ˉ﹃ˉ)

...

As they continued talking, the kids were practically drooling.

Evan couldn't help but smile at the sight.

"Alright, alright."

"When I make some money, I'll buy it for you."

"For now, just help me pick some berries."

After saying that, Evan couldn't help but quicken his pace.

Naturally, Evan agreed to their requests. After all, he would need these little ones' help in the future.

In addition to their studies, they also acted as Evan's assistants.

Before long, Evan and the group arrived at the orchard.

The small orchard ahead was filled with rows of fruit trees, neatly arranged.

Among the trees were common berry species like Oran Berries, Lum Berries, and Sitrus Berries.

Looking at the berries, Evan gave his instructions:

"Oran Berries, Sitrus Berries, Mago Berries, Razz Berries, and Qualot Berries. I need these ones."

"You all know which ones those are, right?"

Hearing his words, the little ones eagerly nodded.

"We know."

"We'll start picking them right away."

Without wasting any time, the kids scattered and began picking the berries Evan had requested from the orchard.

Evan couldn't help but chuckle at their enthusiasm. He, too, quickly got to work, gathering the berries he needed.

Of course, these weren't the only berries required for energy cubes. He still needed Pumpkin Berries, Drash Berries, Nutpea Berries, and several others to make the full set of ingredients.

He also needed to gather some additional supplies.

Luckily, things like milk were available at the orphanage, so there was no need to worry about that.

After spending more than half an hour gathering everything, Evan had all the berries he needed.

Once he'd taken inventory, he spoke to the group:

"Alright, that's enough for now."

"Take these back first."

"I'll head into the forest to gather some other things."

"Remember, don't wander off, okay?"

"Wait!!"

"Hey, what's that you're holding??"

Suddenly, Evan noticed a yellow creature cradled in the arms of one of the younger girls.

No way!

"That's a Pichu!"

The little girl proudly lifted the Pichu, beaming with joy.

The poor thing looked unconscious, though. Evan noticed a small bump on its head.

"Who did this?!"

It was clear someone had knocked Pichu out with a stone and brought it back. Evan couldn't believe it!

No matter how small Pichu was, it was still a Pokémon—one capable of discharging electricity. If it were awake, these kids could have easily been injured.

Are all kids this daring nowadays? Evan thought, exasperated.

Hearing his question, the little girl holding Pichu looked startled and quickly placed it back on the ground.

"Brother Evan..."

Seeing her panic, Evan was at a loss for words.

He felt a strange sense of déjà vu. When he was their age, he had once knocked out a Pidgey and brought it home—only to be chased and pecked by the angry Pokémon after it woke up.

He and his friends had often caused trouble with the wild Pokémon in the mountains back then.

Thinking of those days, Evan couldn't help but chuckle to himself, though he quickly suppressed it.

The kids, noticing that Evan was upset, looked at him with wide, worried eyes.

Sighing, Evan shook his head.

"Alright."

"I'm not mad."

"But listen, don't attack these Pokémon randomly in the future, okay? Do you understand?"

"If you don't knock them out properly, they'll hurt you—and worse, you could get seriously injured."

"You might even lose your life."

These little ones still had so much to learn. Evan could only wonder why they were so bold and mischievous these days!
