Chapter 170: Chapter 30: The Toxic Art Of Ninjutsu
After winning the Hive Badge at the Azalea Gym, Mew and her friends are walking through the forest to find the next gym.
Mew looks to see her two badges she has won, "Well, it looks like I've got two badges."
"Which means, you only need six more badges to compete in the Johto League," Misty says.
"So where do we need to go for the next gym?" Tomo asks.
Brock looks at the guide book and says, "According to this, the next gym that is along the way is Goldenrod City."
"Goldenrod City," Mew says, and looks it up on her Pokenav.
She then sees the map of where they are and where Goldenrod City is.
"Well, Goldenrod City is a bit away, but I'm sure we'll get there if we continue forward," Mew says.
"Wonder what kind of gym leader at Goldenrod will be like," Jen replies.
"We won't know until we get there," Misty says.
"Misty's right. And during this time, I'll have to do some training. Who knows what Pokemon the gym leader would use," Mew says.
Suddenly, the group hears something, almost like a clang.
"What's that sound?" Misty asks.
"Don't know," Misty says.
Then soon hear the sound of glass shattering.
"There's another sound," Tomo says.
Pikachu and Eevee senses the noise and goes on ahead.
"Hey Pikachu! Eevee! Wait up!" Mew calls out, and follows
"Wait for us, Mew!" Misty says,
"Come on," Brock says.
"Right," Tomo and Jen say.
Soon, everyone follows Pikachu and Eevee as they hear the noises getting closer. Soon enough, the group stops in front of the bush.
"Pika Pikachu," (The noise is coming from the other side.) Pikachu says.
"Eevee Eevee," (And it sounds like a lot of people over there.) Eevee says.
Mew turns to the group, "Pikachu and Eevee said they hear a lot of people from beyond this bush."
"Let's remain quiet and see what's on the other side," Brock says.
Mew nods her head in reply.
Quietly, Mew and the others secretly move the branches of the bushes and take a look at what's on the other side. When they look at the other side, the group is surprised at what they're seeing. What they see is a Japanese style building with a wall surrounding the facility. They notice the door open to reveal a few people dressed in ninja outfits, practicing training with many different Pokemon inside. Pokemon like Venonat, Venomoth, Sneasler like the one Brock has, Spinarak, Ivysaur and Bulbasaur, and other Pokemon they haven't seen before.
Curious, Mew and the others come out of the bushes and take a peek through the open doors to see the trainers and their Pokemon, training together.
"Wow. This place looks amazing," Jen says.
"And there are so many Pokemon inside," Tomo says.
"What is this place?" Misty asks.
"I'm not sure. It looks to be some kind of training facility for ninjas," Brock says.
"Yeah. And it seems that the trainers inside are training with their Pokemon," Mew says.
Then Tomo notices, "Look, there's a battle going on right now."
There, they notice a battlefield with two trainers battling against each other.
One trainer calls out, "Spinarak, use String Shot."
Then the Spinarak shoots String Shot.
"Ekans, dodge and use Tackle!" Another trainer calls out.
The Ekans slithers past the String Shot and strikes at the Spinarak, which is a direct hit. Spinrak falls over, but is able to get up.
The trainers continue to battle as Mew and the others watch the event.
"Wow. This looks amazing," Mew says.
"I didn't expect to see a Ninja training camp here," Misty says.
"And there are Pokemon as well," Jen happily says.
"I wonder who owns the place," Tomo says.
Suddenly they hear someone say, "Salazz…"
"Huh?" Jen replies, confused and turns her head. Then flinches in fright, "Yipes!"
"What is it, Jen?" Mew asks.
Jen slowly points her finger forward and everyone turns to see a Pokemon staring before them. A dark gray Pokémon resembling a salamander or lizard. Its thin body has a purple underside with several wavy, dark pink markings: a U-shaped marking with two additional lines inside on its chest and one on each hip resembling wisps of smoke. The dark gray on its head and neck extends slightly onto its chest in a V-shape. It has a slender head with purple, almond-shaped eyes with slit pupils and two fang-like projections on each side of its lower jaw. There are two thin, wavy growths on its back at the base of its tail, which is whip-like with a dark pink underside. Its hands and feet each have five long, thin digits, with dark pink palms that can unleash flames.
"What kind of Pokemon is that?" Tomo asks.
"Let's see," Mew says, and brings out her Pokedex.
Dexter says, "Salazzle, the Toxic Lizard Pokemon. A Poison and Fire Type. Salazzle makes its opponents light-headed with poisonous gas, then captivates them with alluring movements to turn them into loyal servants. For some reason, only females have been found. It creates a reverse harem of male Salandit that it lives with."
Just then, the Pokemon jumps in the air as it begins to fire globs of purple liquid towards them.
Mew cries out, "Watch out!"
Everyone quickly moves out of the way as the poison hits the walls as they cry out in a panic.
In the training area of the Japanese building, a man happens to hear the scream.
"Huh?" The man replies, confused.
Back out the gate, Mew and the others dodge and run from the pokemon firing poison at them.
"What kind of attack is it?" Misty panics.
"It's Venoshock!" Mew cries out.
"It's a strong poison attack, so it's not good to get hit by it," Brock says.
The black Pokemon continues to throw Venoshock at the group. Just then, Jen falls to the ground and turns to see the Pokemon's attack is coming towards Jen.
"Jen!" Mew cries out.
Before anyone knows it, Mew gets in front of Jen to protect her, but is hit by the Venoshock.
"Mew!" Jen cries out.
"Oh no!" Tomo cries out in shock.
Soon, Mew falls over and it shows signs that she has been poisoned by the attack.
"Pika pi!" (Mew!) Pikachu cries out and runs to her.
Eevee does the same, "Eevee!" (Mew!)
"Mew's been poisoned!" Misty cries out.
"Oh no!" Brock says.
Everyone hurries to Mew to see Mew has been badly poisoned and isn't moving.
"Mew, wake up! Mew?! Mew! Please wake up!" Jen says, shaking Mew and is on the verge of tears.
However, Mew is not moving and feels dizzy.
Brock kneels to Mew and says, "No good. Mew is badly poisoned. Having a direct hit is very effective."
Eevee then turns to the Pokemon and glares at it viciously.
Eevee gets in front and shouts, "Eevee Vee! Eevee Eevee Eev!" (Hey you! How dare you hurt my sister!"
Eevee then jumps up and performs Swift Attack. The other Pokemon dodges and performs Flamethrower.
Eevee then dodges and suddenly, Eevee's front paws begin to glow as she lands on the ground. Then her body becomes surrounded by glowing light blue rocks that make a ring. She then lifts herself up and slams her paws to the ground as the rocks come flying at the Pokemon. The Pokemon uses its skills to dodge the attack until one of them scratches it on the side. The Pokemon lands on the ground and seems fine, despite the scratch.
"That's incredible!" Tomo says, surprised.
"What move was that?" Jen asks.
"That was Stone Edge!" Brock says.
"Stone Edge?" Misty replies.
"Yes. This is the first time that an Eevee can use that attack," Brock says.
"I think getting upset that Mew got hurt must have given Eevee extra power to do so," Misty says.
Suddenly, they hear someone shouting, "Wha-what's going on out here?!"
Everyone turns to see a young man, probably in his late twenties. He has light blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin, and is wearing a blue ninja outfit that has a bit of red and black on it. He is also wearing shoes and has a blue bandana around his neck.
"What's all the noise?" The man asks, sounding worried and skeptical.
When he sees the fiasco going on out here, the man panics and cries out, "Wha-what happened?!"
Sometime later, after explaining the situation, the young man who is named Yoshi is making an antidote for Mew after being poisoned. Mew is now lying down in the Japanese bed and the covers over her. He uses healing herbs, pecha berries, and other ingredients used to make a poison antidote. He ground, mixed, and liquified the antidote so it would be drinkable.
Yoshi walks to Mew and kneels to her, "Here you go, this is a strong and effective poison antidote. Drink it and you'll be right as rain."
Mew then begins to drink the antidote and is soon starting to feel better, but still feels a bit weak. Either way, Mew is no longer poisoned.
"There. The poison is working already," Yoshi says.
"Thank you for helping Yoshi," Misty says.
"You're welcome, but I am so sorry this happened. Salazzle didn't mean for this to happen. You see, it's one of the security Pokemon so it will attack any intruders. There are a few other Pokemon around, but Salazzle can be aggressive when it tries to scare away intruders," Yoshi says.
"It's okay. I'm sure you didn't mean for this to happen," Mew says, feeling less weakened.
"Thank you for understanding," Yoshi says.
Brock then asks, "So Yoshi, what's this place? It looks like a training camp for ninjas?"
"You're right about it. I'm actually a Sensei and manage the Ninja training facility," Yoshi says.
He then adds, "But I've been struggling as of late. I've been trying to find a way to help improve the place so it will help stay in business, but it's not easy."
"Oh. So I guess being a sensei is not easy," Misty says.
"No, but I want to do a good job with it. The facility owner is a really great ninja, so I want to do what I can to help him keep the facility running," Yoshi says.
"Sounds like the owner was a great ninja?" Tomo asks.
"He is. He's actually an Elite Four of the Johto Region," Yoshi says.
"That's amazing. So he's like Will?" Jen asks.
"That's right," Yoshi says.
Then explains, "You see, he's the Elite Four Pokemon trainer who specializes in Poison Type Pokemon, so the facility has the trainers train with Poison Type Pokemon. In fact, he actually used to be the Fuchsia Gym Leader in the Kanto Region."
That catches Mew, Misty, Brock, Pikachu, and Eevee by surprise. Jen, Tomo, and the others are amazed.
"Really? Mew, Misty, and Brock are from Kanto. So am I," Tomo says.
Mew sits up and asks, "Wait, did you say that the Elite Four experted in poison type was the Fuchsia Gym Leader?"
"Yes. I did," Yoshi says.
"So then…" Misty asks.
"The Elite Four member has to be…" Brock says.
Before they can rely, they hear a knock on the door.
Soon, the door opens to reveal one of the students, "Sensei, the master has returned."
"Yes, of course. Let him in," Yoshi says, sounding flustered.
The student opens the door more and moves out of the way as he stands next to the sliding door. Walking into the room is a familiar face, Mew, Misty, Brock, Pikachu, and Eevee know. A familiar man with grayish teal hair, and black eyes. He is wearing a dark purple ninja outfit with a red scarf around his neck.
Yoshi quickly turns and bow his head, "Welcome back Master."
"Hello Yoshi. How are the students' training?" The familiar face asks.
"Um going okay master, but we had an incident. You see one of the Pokemon accidentally poisoned someone and…" Yoshi says, sounding frantic.
Suddenly, Mew speaks up to ask, "Koga?"
The familiar face, Koga, turns his head to see Mew in the bed with Misty, Brock, Pikachu and Eevee. Pikachu and Eevee smile and walk to Koga.
"Oh Mew and her friends. I didn't expect to see you here," Koga says.
Koga looks at Mew and kneels down to see her, "Hmm, I suspect you must have gotten poisoned."
"I'm afraid so, Koga," Misty says.
"Mew was hit by Salazzle's Venoshock," Brock says.
Then Yoshi says, "Yes. Salazzle saw them and tried to chase them away by using its attack. I apologize for what happened. I've already given her the antidote and she seems to be feeling better already."
"I see," Koga says to Yoshi.
Then turns to Mew, "Are you alright?"
"I'm okay. I've already taken the antidote so I'm feeling a lot better," Mew says.
Jen then asks, "Hey Mew, how do you know one of the Elite Four from Johto?"
"Actually, like Yoshi said, Koga was once the Fuschia City Gym Leader," Brock says.
"That's right. I challenged the Fuchsia Gym during my journey. His poison Pokemon was powerful, but I was able to win and earn the Soul Badge," Mew explains.
Then turns to Misty, "And Misty's Psyduck used its newfound Psychic attacks to save the Pokemon."
Then Brock turns to Koga, "And it's good to see you again, Koga? How's Aya?"
"Yeah. It's been a long while," Misty says.
"Yes. It has. Aya has been doing well with her ninja training and Pokemon skills. When I went to Johto and became the Elite Four, Aya became the new Fuschia Gym Leader," Koga says.
"Wow. Aya's a gym leader now," Misty says.
"Indeed, and Aya continues to train hard in Pokemon Ninjutsu," Koga says.
"That's great to hear," Mew says and smiles, "And it's very nice to see you again, Koga. It's been a while since we saw you last.
Sometime later, Mew feels much better after the effect of the antidote kicks in. Soon, Mew and the others have tea with Koga and Yoshi.
"So Yoshi, what kind of training are you doing?" Misty asks.
"Well, I'm trying to come up with more training sessions to help Pokemon and trainers work together, and come up with medical sessions, especially to do with Poison attacks," Yoshi says.
Then grows a bit bashful, "But I'm not sure anyone will be interested in it."
"I have to think those are good ideas," Mew says.
"She's right. It will help trainers and Pokemon to work together," Brock says.
"And it will help them to know about making poison antidotes in case the poison attack hits someone by accident," Misty says.
"You think so?" Yoshi asks.
"I think so," Mew says.
"Um thanks. The truth is, I've been struggling and feeling a bit doubtful about my ideas and how to help improve the faculty," Yoshi says.
Then Mew suggests, "Maybe we can help you."
"Really? You want to help?" Yoshi asks.
"Sure," Mew says.
"I like to know what it's like to be a ninja," Tomo says.
"Me too," Jen says.
"I don't mind helping out," Brock says.
"I like to help too," Misty says.
"Thanks guys, I really appreciate it," Yoshi says.
"I think it will be good to have some assistance. I'll assist you in your improvements as well," Koga says.
Yoshi smiles and says, "Thanks everyone."
Soon enough, Mew and the others are outside with Koga and Yoshi to begin some of the improvements and ideas for new sessions.
"Alright then, you seek to learn Ninjutsu with your Pokemon, we'll need to learn how to use attacks, defense, stealth, and also it wouldn't hurt to learn about medicine, especially when dealing with Poison," Yoshi says.
He grows skeptical, "I think."
"Those seem like good ideas," Mew says.
"Thanks. I was trying to do some, but there were a little bumps," Yoshi says,
"You just need to be more confident in your decisions. After all you're the teacher and manager, so you'll need to organize what kind of classes you're going to do," Brock says.
"I suppose you're right," Yoshi says.
He then remembers, "That's right. I do also think about having a class for Pokemon with their trainers. However, some of the wild Pokemon I found are a bit."
"Stop! Come back!" A student calls out.
"Stay still! Calm down!" Another student calls out.
"What's going on?" Misty asks.
Just then, three Pokemon appear from the side of the building and run towards the group in excitement.
The first Pokémon with a purple, stalk-like body and head. It has blue eyes with yellow pupils and sclerae, and three pointed teeth. The body consists of two sections; the top section is slightly smaller and overlaps the lower. On top of its head is a starfish-like collection of ten tentacles. All of the tentacles reach the ground, except for the one directly in front, which is shorter and leaves its face exposed. The tentacles are light blue and covered in purple spines. On top of its head is a purple area with a collection of spikes with a larger, yellow spine in the center.
The second Pokemon, a small, quadrupedal, purple, lizard-like baby Pokémon. It has a lightning bolt-like protrusion on its forehead, along with four conical spikes surrounding its head. It has violet eyes with black pupils and white sclerae. It has a light purple tongue sticking out of its mouth. Its cheeks are marked with a very pale whitish lavender spot on each side. Its chest also has a pale lavender-white spot, heavily resembling a baby's bib. Its lower half is light purple with lines running down the sides, resembling a diaper and entirely covering its short, tapering tail. Its arms and legs have two stubby fingers and toes each, with pale white spots under the toes and palms, and has two white spots on its back, just below its head.
The last one looks like a Salandit, but smaller. It's a small, black Pokémon resembling a salamander or lizard. Its body is dark gray with a black head and feet. Along its back and down its tail is an orange-red line. This marking splits into four short lines with round tips at the base of its tail. At the base of its neck are two short, flat spines, which create the impression of a mask or bandanna tied around its head. Its eyes are light purple with slit pupils and there are several tooth-like protrusions along its upper jaw. Each foot has four pointed toes.
"What are those Pokemon?" Tomo asks.
The three Pokemon continue to run in excitement and jump into Mew's friends. The purple Pokemon with tentacles lands in Misty's arms. The purple lizard Pokemon lands on Tomo's head. And the black salamander pike Pokemon climbed on Jen's shoulders.
"What are they?" Tomo asks.
"I'm not sure," Jen answers and points to the Pokemon on her shoulder, "This one looks like Salazzle."
"Let's see," Mew says and brings out her Pokedex.
Mew points to the Pokemon in Misty's arms and Dexter says, "Mareanie, the Brutal Star Pokemon. A Poison and Water Type. It's found crawling on beaches and seafloors. The coral that grows on Corsola's head is as good as a five-star banquet to this Pokémon."
Then Mew points the Pokedex to the Pokemon on Tomo's head, "Tozel, the Baby Pokemon. An Electric and Poison Type. It stores poison in an internal poison sac and secretes that poison through its skin. If you touch this Pokémon, a tingling sensation follows."
Finally, Mew points the Pokedex to the Pokemon on Jen's shoulder, "Salandit, the Toxic Lizard Pokemon, and the pre-evolved form of Salazzle. A Poison and Fire Type. It burns its bodily fluids to create a poisonous gas. When its enemies become disoriented from inhaling the gas, it attacks them."
"That explains the appearance," Jen says.
The Salandit begins nuzzling against Jen's cheek.
Mareanie turns to Misty and happily jumps on her shoulder. Toxel then licks Tomo, causing him to laugh.
"That one looks really cute," Mew says and pet the Toxel.
"And the Mareanie and Salandit look like they're in good shape," Brock says.
"Sorry, those are some of the Pokemon I was talking about. They can be a handful sometimes," Yoshi says.
"That's okay. They seem to be sweet," Misty says.
"And Toxel looks cool," Tomo says, and receives another lick from the Pokemon.
"Sounds nice, but we should probably get working on the improvements and other sessions that need to be done," Mew says.
"Right," Yoshi says.
And soon, the group begins to help Yoshi with his improvements on the lessons, using Attacks, defenses, and stealth with some Pokemon. For example, pokemon that have created smoke like Koffing and Weezing can help with the stealth. Spinarak and Pokemon that can use String Shot can be used to create traps and catch their opponents. Then there are Pokemon that can use their attacks for battle. Yoshi explains to them the lesson plans for the kind of classes. Koga observes the lessons and some of them are good.
Of course, Koga also points out his opinions and suggestions on how to improve. With Mew and her friends' help, they also agree to help them.
Once the lesson plans and ideas are settled, Misty with Mareanie, and her Water and Poison Pokemon help teach the defense. Along with Tomo, Jen, and some of their Poison Type Pokemon help with the demonstration and Yoshi's teachings in attack, defenses, and stealth. Such as hitting targets, battling opponents, sneaking into places unseen and heard, and other methods of Ninjutsu.
Mew and Brock help with some of the remedies and medical sessions for some of the students. Including on how to use revival herbs, pecha berries, and other medicines to use for medicine and antidotes for poison and other needs.
Even their Pokemon agree to help with the demonstrations, lessons, and battles. And every moment, Yoshi overlooks the lessons, and is starting to feel more confident about the improvements and lessons. Even the students in the facility are doing well with the lessons.
Time has passed, and Yoshi is waiting outside with Mew and the others to go over the results of the lessons. Yoshi is very nervous that he's practically shaking.
"It's alright Yoshi, I'm sure Koga will like them," Mew says.
"That's right. You've worked very hard on it. I'm sure you did a good job with them," Brock says.
"I sure hope so," Yoshi nervously says.
Soon enough, Koga walks out and looks at Yoshi, who is trying to remain calm and urges himself not to quiver. Koga calmly smiles and nods his head with approval. Yoshi is so happy that he is almost on the verge of tears. Mew and the others are very happy for Yoshi.
Later in the evening, Mew and her friends are ready to depart to the next part of their adventure.
Yoshi happily says, "Thank you all. We really appreciated your help."
"It's no trouble. We're glad to help," Misty says.
"Indeed," Koga says. "And I also see that you've all grown since I last saw you." Then turn to Yoshi, "Including you, Yoshi."
"Me?" Yoshi asks.
"Yes. You've learned and grown from your experience and gained more confidence in your job as a sensei of the training dojo. I think you're going to be a fine teacher for this facility," Koga says.
Yoshi smiles and bows in respect, "Thank you, Master Koga."
Then Yoshi turns to Mew and her friends, "And I'm glad that Mareanie, Toxel, and Salandit now have good trainers to take care of them."
"Yeah. I'm glad Mareanie gets to be with me too," Misty says.
"Mareain," Mareanie happily says.
"Yeah. I think we're going to get along just fine," Jen says.
"Yeah," Tomo says, and Toxel licks Tomo's cheek again.
Then Yoshi says, "And Brock, Mew, I have something to give you for thanking you for the medical lessons and apologizing from earlier."
With that, Yoshi gives Brock and Mew Pokemon Eggs. Brock's Pokemon Egg is magenta with black markings on top and the bottom is dark green. Mew's egg is white and the top part has the resemblance of a Pokeball.
"They're Pokemon Eggs," Mew says.
"Are you sure?" Brock asks.
"Yes. I'm sure. Consider this as a thank you for your help and apologizes. Sorry for repeating myself," Yoshi says.
"Thank you Yoshi," Mew says.
"We'll take good care of them," Brock says.
"You're welcome," Yoshi says.
Soon, Mew and the others depart and say their farewells to Koga and Yoshi. Not only do they get a chance to see Koga again, but they also help a struggling Sensei have new confidence and good improvements on the ninja facility. While Mew and Brock receive Eggs, Misty, Tomo and Jen have gained new friends. And now, Mew and her friends continue their journey through the Johto Region.
