Chapter 69: Chapter 69 – Rico vs. Camellia

Not long after, Camellia asked Rico, "Say, you're saying you're here for the badge?"

"Yes, I am," Rico responded with vigor.

 "Then come and get it."

Camellia says that seriously with positive confidence.

A bit later, she and Rico had a Pokémon battle; their Pokémon are Mudkip and Riolu.

"I am a Water-type Pokémon Trainer," Camellia said to him, "so you better be prepared or else, you'll get splashed with my Water-type Pokémon."

Rico then understood it pretty quickly.

"Wow, it's a Mudkip..." he commented, before he pulled out his Pokédex and pointed it at Mudkip; it then responded, "Mudkip, the Mud Fish Pokémon. A Water-type. The fin on Mudkip's head acts as a highly sensitive radar. Using its fin to sense movements of water and air, this Pokémon can determine what is taking place around it without using its eyes."

"Wow, so cool," Rico commented, before putting his device back and focused back to the battle. "We'll our best!"

Watching this, Jonathan said to Adrian, "This might be a bit difficult for him, especially with Camellia's other Pokémon."

"Oh really?" Adrian looked at him. Jonathan then nodded. "Yeah, when I was in my own Pokémon journey, it took 3 tries for me to win her badge."

With that Adrian resumed watching the battle.

And so, their battle had begun, as indicated by the referee.

"Mudkip, use Mud Slap!" Camellia commanded Mudkip.

Mudkip then used Mud Slap, hurling mud in Riolu's face.

"Dodge it!" Rico commanded Riolu. Riolu then dodged it quickly. "Then use Focus Blast!"

Riolu then used Focus Blast, heightening its mental focus and unleashes its power, striking Mudkip with power, with Mudkip wasn't being alert by it.

It still managed to get up despite being hit.

"Wow, is that Focus Blast?" Camellia asked upon seeing Riolu's move.

"Yes, it was," answered Rico back. "One of its earliest moves."

Camellia was impressed by Riolu's capability to learn that. "That's nice, but can you handle this?"

Then to Mudkip. "Use Water Pulse!"

"What?" Mudkip then used Water Pulse, attacking Riolu with a pulsing blast of water, striking it with speed.

This causes Riolu to get blasted a few meters away, but didn't fell to the water off the edge of the platform.

"Oh, no, Riolu, are you okay?" Rico asked it.

But, Riolu was still up, so it managed to stand up.

"Such a strong Pokemon it was," Camellia commented.

"Quickly, Riolu," Rico commanded Riolu, "again, use Focus Blast!"

Riolu then used Focus Blast again, heightening its mental focus and unleashes its power at Mudkip.

"Dodge it!" Camellia responded to this.

Mudkip then dodged the Focus Blast, and Camellia commanded it, "Then use Water Gun!"

Mudkip then used Water Gun, squirting water to attack Riolu.

"Dodge it, Riolu!" Rico commanded Riolu.

Riolu then dodged it.

"Then charge and use Karate Chop!"

"Woah, what?" Camellia commented to this.

Riolu then charged towards Mudkip.

"Quickly, Mudkip, use Water Pulse!" Camellia commanded Mudkip quickly.

Mudkip did then used Water Pulse on Riolu, but the latter dodged the former's attacks relatively quickly, before Karate Chop on Mudkip, striking it with power.

As a result, Mudkip was defeated by it. Camellia was stunned to see that her Mudkip had lost the first round.

"Mudkip is unable to battle," the referee announced. "Riolu wins."

"Wow, good job, Riolu," Rico said to Riolu in positive delight towards his victory in the first round.

Riolu then responded with positive pride.

Calling her Mudkip, Camellia said to Rico, "That was an amazing battle, but you still have 2 rounds to go."

This causes the boy from Navarre Island to be bewildered by it. "Wait, what?"

Once she had put her Mudkip's Pokémon-ball back to her Pokémon-belt, she get another one and tossed it. "Go, Shellder!" Her second Pokémon, a Shellder, then came out of its Pokémon-ball and entered the battle with a tough and cute sound. Rico and Riolu were stunned to see that.

 "Woah, a Shellder..."

Rico then pulled his Pokédex again and pointed it at Shellder; it then responded, "Shellder, the Bivalve Pokémon. A Water-type. At night, this Pokémon uses its broad tongue to burrow a hole in the seafloor sand and sleep in it. While it is sleeping, Shellder closes its shell, but leaves its tongue hanging out."

 "Wow, that was awesome."

Rico then put his Pokédex back in his pants pocket and focused back on the second round.
