 And thus, the second round had begun.

 "Shellder, use Water Gun!" Camellia commanded Shellder in coolness.

Shellder then used Water Gun, but that Water Gun is stronger than Mudkip's.

 "Riolu, dodge it!" Rico commanded Riolu.

Riolu then dodged it quickly with alertness.

 "Then use Focus Blast!"

As Rico watches, Riolu used Focus Blast, heightening its mental focus and unleashes its power, striking Shellder with a bit of power.

But due to its shell, the hit was not that strong.

Rico and Riolu were stunned that it wasn't effective, and Camellia said to them, "Shellder's shell is strong enough to withstand any physical attack."

Shellder then shook a bit.

Because of that, Rico began to think about the possible strategies to beat Shellder. But, it was quite hard so he has to think a bit more seriously and not in carefree.

Seeing what Rico was doing, Jonathan noted to Adrian, "It seems that he was thinking of a good strategy to beat Shellder."

 "He was?" asked Adrian.

 "Yes, in most Pokémon battles, you must think of a good and effective strategy if you and your Pokémon want to win."

To that Adrian took that to heart.

 Back at the battle, after formulating a possibly good strategy, Rico commanded Riolu, "Riolu, use Tackle!"

Riolu then used Tackle, charging at Shellder at a fast pace.

 "Shellder, block with Water Gun!" Camellia commanded Shellder.

Shellder then used Water Gun on Riolu, but the latter dodged it fast and struck Shellder by punching it in the front, blasting it a few meters away.

Luckily Shellder didn't fell into the water off the platform.

 "Oh, no, are you okay?" Camellia asked it upon seeing that.

Shellder then managed to get up, but it was a bit too weak due to Riolu's strength in its punch.

 "That worked," commented Jonathan.

 "Wow, way to go, Riolu!" Rico said to Riolu in positive enthusiasm.

Riolu then responded with seriousness.

And then, Rico commanded Riolu, "Then use Focus Blast!"

Riolu then used Focus Blast, heightening its mental focus and unleashes its power, striking Shellder with power.

As a result, Shellder was defeated by it, ending the second round.

 "Shellder is unable to battle," the referee announced. "Riolu wins."

Camellia was stunned, but quickly considered it as a fair match and calls her defeated Shellder back.

After that, she put that Poké Ball back and gets her third last one.

She then tosses it. "Come out, Wartortle!"

Her Wartortle then came out, and it stepped into battle with a brave vigor.

Rico and Riolu are very stunned.

 "Woah, a Wartortle…"

Rico then, once more, pulled out his Pokédex and pointed it at Wartortle; His Pokédex then responded, "Wartortle, the Turtle Pokémon, and the evolved form of Squirtle. A Water-type. This Pokémon is very popular as a pet. Its fur-covered tail is a symbol of its longevity."

 "Wow, awesome," Rico commented, before putting the device back in his pants pocket.

At this point, Jonathan commented, "I'm not sure he would win with a Riolu."

 "Yeah, Wartortle looks strong, too," agreed Adrian while nodding.

His Bulbasaur was worried about Riolu since it was its best friend.

And so, the third and final round had begun.

 "Riolu, use Focus Blast!" Rico commanded Riolu.

Riolu then used Focus Blast, heightening its mental focus and unleashing its mental focus on Wartortle.

 "Dodge it!" Camellia commanded Wartortle.

Wartortle did so, and Camellia commanded, "Then use Hydro Pump!"

 "What?" Rico and Jonathan responded to this simultaneously.

Wartortle then used Hydro Pump on Riolu, striking it with full power.

As a result, Riolu was defeated by it.

Rico was shocked to see such strong Hydro Pump. 

 "It's a bit stronger than my Prinplup's Hydro Pump," he thought.

 "Riolu is unable to battle," the referee announced. "Wartorle wins."

Watching this, Jonathan commented, "I knew this will happen."

But Rico quickly accepts defeat and calls his Riolu back.

 "You did a good job," he said to it. "You deserved some rest."

 He then put the Poké Ball in his Pokébelt and began to think of a strategy against Wartortle, which was strong with its Hydro Pump as its signature move. He began to think about what Pokémon he should use in that battle. He eventually crosses out Litleo out of the list since it was a Fire-type, before including Starly since it's too weak, as well as Prinplup since it was a Water-type, too.

Then, he decided to use Absol in the battle.

So he did, and Absol stepped into battle with seriousness.

Camellia was very shocked to see an Absol whose Trainer is not a salamangkero. "What? An Absol? But you're not a…"

 "It chose me because it considered me as worthy," Rico explained briefly.

Camellia then accepted his explanation as a fact.

After that, she commanded Wartortle, "Alright, Wartortle, use Hydro Pump!"

Wartortle then used Hydro Pump, blasting water at high speed at Absol.

 "Dodge it!" Rico commanded Absol quickly and serious.

Absol did so, and its Trainer commanded, "Then use Dark Pulse!"

Absol then used Dark Pulse, shooting a beam of purple circles at Wartortle and striking Wartortle with it in power.

Camellia was stunned to see that.

Wartortle almost lost the battle when it managed to get up.

 "That was stronger than last time," Adrian commented.

 "That's Dark Pulse for you," responded Jonathan.

Adrian's Bulbasaur and Jonathan's Boldore were amazed to see that, too.

Back at the battle, Camellia commanded Wartortle, "Quickly, use Water Pulse!"

Wartortle did so, but Absol dodged that as well.

"Then use Night Slash!" Rico commanded Absol.

 "Wait, what?" Jonathan responded to this.

Absol then used Night Slash, and its horn glows white, and it slashes Wartortle with it.

Absol had suddenly learned that a week ago with Rico's knowledge.

The power of it is very high and as a result, Wartortle was defeated by it, ending the third and final round.

 "Wartortle was unable to battle," the referee announced. "Absol wins, and the winner is Rico Cruz."

 Stunned by his bond with his Pokémon, Camellia accepted defeat and calls her Wartortle. After that, she put the Poké Ball on her Pokébelt, Camellia walked up to the dark brown-haired boy while getting something from her pockets. It was a badge of her gym. He then gave it to Rico. "You have earned this, Rico-kun. I hereby give you this as an indication of your victory here."

Happy, Rico quickly accepted it and raised it to the air. "Yay! I had the third gym badge!"

He then get his badge box from his backpack and put the badge in the right slot, before closing it and put it back.

Once that was done, he looked at Camellia. "Thank you so much."

Camellia then smiled at him. "You're welcome. You deserved it, and your effort really paid off."

Seeing all these, Jonathan, Adrian, and their teams then came to them and congratulated Rico in his victory.

 "Thanks, big brother, Adrian-kun," Rico responded back to them.

Absol then responded with happiness, too.

He was happy that his efforts and strategy had paid off.
