To be honest, Mewtwo's sudden change in attitude surprised even Kai.
However, it also indicated that while Mewtwo's personality might be intense and paranoid, it wasn't inherently evil.
It had been blinded by hatred, but once it glimpsed the beauty of the world, its convictions began to waver.
After considering for a moment, Kai responded, "What do you want to know?"
There was a moment of silence before Mewtwo asked, "Who are you? How do you know my name? And why do you seem to possess so much knowledge about the future?"
Kai couldn't help but mentally grumble, 'Why so many questions at once? Are you a living Pokédex or something?'
Still, the fact that Mewtwo asked such questions suggested it hadn't fully extracted his memories earlier.
'Now, how do I handle this? Fool it? No... maybe I should answer its doubts tactfully.' Kai's thoughts raced. He didn't answer immediately but instead glanced at Ash, Misty, and Brock.
At this moment, everyone, including their Pokémon, seemed dazed. Under the influence of the glowing particles drifting in the air, memories of what had happened here were gradually fading from their minds.
The glowing particles were even spreading beyond the island, carried by the wind and their effect seemed to be intensifying.
After deliberating for a moment, Kai smiled and said, "I can answer your questions, but before that, I think it's better to send Ash and the others back to the mainland."

Vermilion City Port
A fierce wind swept through the harbour, with massive waves crashing against the lighthouse. Spray from the waves splattered onto the pier, the salty scent mixing with the humid air.
The passenger hall was crowded with trainers and their Pokémon. The air inside was thick, a blend of seawater, rain, and the distinct odours of various Pokémon.
Ash groggily opened his eyes, surprised to find himself lying on a bench. Rubbing his eyes, he glanced around and saw Misty, Brock, and Kai sitting nearby.
"Why was I asleep?" he murmured, still half-dazed and unable to piece together what had happened.
Everything felt eerily familiar, as though he were replaying events from yesterday a sensation akin to déjà vu.
Beside him, Misty and Brock stretched and yawned, also waking up.
"This is strange. Why are we here?" Misty asked, her brow furrowed.
Kai leaned back lazily and replied, "You were probably tired. Didn't we take shelter here to wait out the storm?"
Ash and the others exchanged uncertain glances. Something felt off, but they couldn't pinpoint what.
Misty rubbed her temples, trying to piece together the fragmented memories. "But... this is Vermilion City, isn't it? How did we even get here? And, Kai, why are you with us?"
Kai chuckled, feigning nonchalance. "Didn't you say you'd come find me here after earning all your Gym Badges? I came to pick you up at the port! What's the matter? Slept too long and forgot everything?"
The explanation seemed plausible enough to Ash and the others, though a vague sense of unease lingered.
Their thoughts were interrupted by a commotion nearby.
In the middle of the bustling hall, Officer Jenny and a sailor, Porter, were surrounded by a crowd of trainers and passengers. Among them were the three trainers Ash had fought alongside on New Island.
"Attention, everyone!" Officer Jenny's authoritative voice carried over the noise. "The storm has temporarily suspended all ferry services. Please remain patient the port will reopen as soon as the weather clears!"
"Officer Jenny is right," added another voice.
The crowd parted, revealing Nurse Joy from the Pokémon Center.
"But don't worry!" Joy said with a reassuring smile. "Our Pokémon Center will provide free meals and accommodation for everyone for as long as the storm lasts."
Remarkably, Joy's sudden reappearance didn't surprise anyone, even though she had previously gone missing.
When Kai glanced at a nearby bulletin board, the missing person notice for her was gone.
Under Mewtwo and Mew's combined powers, not only had the island's events been erased from everyone's memories, but all traces of the incident had been rewritten almost as if it had never happened.
'Mew and Mewtwo…' Kai mused. True to their names, they wield powers that feel like dreams.
Other than Kai and his Pokémon, it seemed no one in the world remembered what had occurred on New Island.
Suddenly, Ash ran to the window and pointed at the sky. "Look! What Pokémon is that?"
Kai and the others hurried to the window. Among the thick clouds, a figure darted at incredible speed.
It was too far away to make out clearly, but Kai immediately recognized it as Mewtwo.
Before leaving, Kai had shared a lengthy conversation with Mewtwo. He had revealed some truths, though he chose his words carefully.
When Mewtwo asked how Kai knew so much, he admitted he wasn't from this world.
To Kai's surprise, Mewtwo accepted the concept of time travel with ease. His Haunter, however, was less convinced, staring with wide eyes and an exaggerated expression, as though trying to swallow a basketball.
Mewtwo's hostility faded during their discussion, and it even acknowledged Kai as a friend someone who, like itself, didn't truly belong to this world.
Before departing, Mewtwo had solemnly promised, "If you ever face difficulties in the future, call on me for help."
While gaining Mewtwo's friendship was a delight, it was Mew that captivated Kai's curiosity.
Not only was Mew adorable, but its strength was extraordinary; maybe in future, when he was powerful enough, he could catch it.
Kai felt certain their paths would cross again. Somewhere on his journey, in some far-off corner of the world, he would meet Mew once more.
