Pokemon: The Master Of Monsters

Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Sabrina Recovers

"Sabrina, you lost this game. It is against the rules to use Psychic in a Pokémon battle." A voice cut through the tense atmosphere. Gary turned to see Najun, Sabrina's father, walking toward them.

"You...!" Sabrina's voice turned sharp at the sight of her father, her patience wearing thin. Even the doll she had been holding seemed to share her frustration.

"It seems you're all in the same group," the doll said coldly, its red eyes glowing ominously. "There's no need to continue the match. You all stay."

As the doll spoke, Sabrina's Pokémon suddenly appeared around her in a playful display—Gengar, Gastly, and Haunter. The three ghostly figures floated into the room and started pulling faces at Sabrina.

"Gas!" Gastly snickered at Sabrina's cold expression, and Gengar, taking the lead, slapped Haunter's head with an exaggerated motion.

"Haunter, do something!" Gastly urged.

"Gas!" Gengar muttered, indicating Haunter to take action. In a bizarre performance, Haunter took a bomb from its mouth and lit the fuse. The trio of Ghost-types burst into laughter as the tension broke momentarily.

Sabrina, still as cold as ever, didn't react. She merely watched her Pokémon with indifference, unaware of the impending danger.

Boom!

Suddenly, the bomb exploded, filling the entire gym with smoke. Gary coughed and hacked, rushing toward the door to clear the air.

As the smoke cleared, Gengar, Haunter, and Gastly hovered around Sabrina, their faces covered with soot, but they were laughing, their antics clearly amusing them.

"Hahaha!" they chuckled, making the most of their surprise attack. Sabrina, initially stern, couldn't contain her laughter, and her icy demeanor melted for the first time in years. The doll she had been holding suddenly disappeared, and the tension in the air evaporated.

"Great, Sabrina smiled!" Najun, who had been anxiously waiting for this moment, teared up. He had been hoping for years to see his daughter laugh again.

Gary, still recovering from the smoke, looked around in confusion. "Where did that bomb come from?" he asked, bewildered. The performance wasn't part of his plan, but he couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity.

Najun, chuckling alongside Gary, shook his head. "I have no idea. Haunter must have learned that from watching TV. We don't have bombs in Lavender Town." He paused. "But it worked, didn't it?"

Sabrina's laughter died down as she looked at her father. A guilt-ridden expression appeared on her face, and she glanced at the doll, clearly ashamed of her actions over the past few years.

"Dad, I'm sorry," Sabrina said softly, the weight of her past mistakes hitting her all at once.

Najun, though clearly saddened by his daughter's apology, didn't blame her. "It's okay, Sabrina," he said gently. "It's my fault. I should never have allowed you to deal with Psychic powers alone when you were just a child."

Gary, sensing the emotional moment, hesitated. He cleared his throat and reminded Najun, "Mr. Najun, your wife is still being imprisoned."

The two of them snapped back to reality. They quickly realized that Sabrina's mother—who had been transformed into a doll—was still locked away. Sabrina rushed off, determined to set things right, and soon returned to the room where her mother had been kept, releasing her from the spell.

Reunited at last, the family embraced, and Sabrina's guilt seemed to dissolve with each passing moment.

"Gary, thank you so much," Najun said, his voice filled with gratitude. "Please, tell me what you need. As long as it's within my power, I'll do it for you."

Gary smiled and responded, "Can I have the Gym Badge?"

Najun chuckled, "Don't worry about that. You've already defeated Sabrina. The Badge is yours." He turned to Sabrina, who quickly ran over and handed the Badge to Gary.

"Thank you," Gary said, taking it from her.

Just then, the familiar sound of a system notification pinged in Gary's ears.

[Ding! Mission completed, the reward has been sent to the space backpack.]

Gary put the Badge away, content with the outcome. But as he was about to speak, he noticed Sabrina looking at him. Her expression was still icy, though not as cold as before. There was an undeniable air of beauty about her, and despite her gentler demeanor, a slight pressure emanated from her gaze.

"Gary, if you have any requests, don't hesitate to ask," Najun said, repeating his offer.

Gary, thinking for a moment, nodded. "Mr. Najun, do you have an Abra around here? I want to breed one."

Najun thought for a moment. "We have one at the gym, but I'm not sure if it's already been assigned to any students."

He turned to Sabrina. "Sabrina, do we have any Abras in the breeding house?"

Sabrina, who had been running the gym for the past few years, looked up, seemingly deep in thought. "No, all the Pokémon we bred were given to the students already."

Gary's shoulders slumped. "I've done so much to earn an Abra, and now there are none?"

Najun felt embarrassed. "All the Pokémon went to the students already. It's not easy to ask them to return them."

Gary didn't give up, though. "Mr. Najun, could you help me catch an Abra in the wild?"

Najun hesitated. "Abra's movements are erratic, and they're hard to catch. How about this—I'll let you know when the Alakazam in our breeding house lays eggs. Would that work?"

Gary smiled. "That would be perfect."

After seeing Sabrina's Abra, which had Elite potential, Gary was convinced that the Alakazam at the Saffron Gym would have strong potential. Alakazam was a powerful Pokémon, and if Gary could catch one, it would be an excellent addition to his team.

But Sabrina, who had been listening, suddenly interrupted. "No need to wait," she said with a smile. "I still have an Abra."

Gary and Najun were both taken aback.

"Sabrina, you still have an Abra?" Gary asked, confused. "Why are you breeding two Abras?"

"Because I want to see which one is stronger," Sabrina explained. "I'm breeding both to find out."

Gary blinked, unsure if he had heard right. "You're breeding two Abras just to see which one is stronger?"

Najun also seemed confused. "But Abra isn't an ordinary Pokémon. You can't just breed them like that and decide which one to keep."

Gary thought the whole idea was a bit strange. The gym's budget was tight, and Sabrina's Psychic school didn't exactly bring in a lot of income.

"Wait a minute, Sabrina," Gary said slowly. "Are you going to give me one of the Abras?"

Sabrina nodded. "Yes, but you have to agree to one thing first."

Gary's heart sank. "What's the condition?"

"I want to travel with you," Sabrina said.

"Huh?" Gary and Najun were both confused, unable to understand the request.

Sabrina's expression softened as she explained, "Saffron City is too boring. I want to get out, see the world, and work on improving my skills as a Trainer. After battling you, I realized I still have a long way to go. I want to travel with you and learn."

Gary paused, processing her words. Sabrina's level as a Trainer was indeed lacking, despite her abilities as a Psychic. The reason she had won before was mostly due to her strong Psychic powers, not her battle skills.

After a long silence, Gary finally nodded. "Alright, if that's what you want. We can travel together."

And with that, Sabrina's journey as a Trainer would take a new turn, and she would soon join Gary on his adventures.
