Pokemon: The Master Of Monsters

Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Sabrina Follows The Team

"I think it's okay," Sabrina's mother suddenly spoke up.

"Wife... you...!" Najun was completely taken aback. He couldn't understand why his wife would agree to Sabrina's request. After all, Sabrina had only just recovered, and the idea of her traveling seemed too risky. What if something happened on the road?

"Alright, let her follow you," Sabrina's mother added with a wink, signaling to Najun that he should accept this decision. Najun was about to protest, but when he saw his wife's expression, he reluctantly quieted down.

"Gary, what do you think?" Najun turned to Gary, his voice tinged with concern. Since it was Sabrina who had asked to travel with him, Najun felt he should at least seek Gary's approval.

Gary found himself in a difficult situation.

On one hand, if he agreed, he could get Abra, which was his main goal. But on the other hand, he wasn't sure he wanted Sabrina traveling with him. After all, Sabrina had Psychic abilities, and she could communicate with Pokémon. If she discovered any of Gary's secrets, it could complicate things. But then again, if Sabrina's Pokémon accidentally revealed something, as long as Sabrina didn't realize it, there would be no issues.

Gary sighed. "Let me make one thing clear first—I'm traveling to collect eight badges and attend the Indigo Plateau Conference. I need to stay focused on my schedule, so I can't afford distractions," he said, trying to set some boundaries.

"No problem. I just want to follow you," Sabrina nodded in agreement.

"Then, can you take care of yourself? I'm not going to babysit anyone," Gary warned her.

"It's fine, I'll take care of myself," Sabrina replied, her voice calm.

At this moment, Sabrina's mother intervened again. She opened a Poké Ball, and out popped a Mr. Mime.

"Barri! Barri!" Mr. Mime happily waved its arms in a gesture of readiness. It imitated Sabrina's mother, signaling that it was ready to take care of things.

"This Mr. Mime is responsible for looking after the students at the school and managing the Pokémon in the breeding house. He's excellent at taking care of people and Pokémon. With him around, you won't have to worry about anything," Sabrina's mother explained proudly.

Gary couldn't help but smile. Mr. Mime had a reputation for being a helpful Pokémon, and he was certainly familiar with its skills from Ash's experience with one back in Pallet Town. "Sounds good to me," Gary agreed, feeling reassured.

"Miss Sabrina, are you sure you're ready for the hardships of the journey?" Gary asked, now more curious than skeptical.

"Of course," Sabrina replied confidently.

Gary wasn't completely convinced. Sabrina might be a Psychic powerhouse, but she had grown up in the comfort of a big city. She had been pampered and could easily be unprepared for the rougher side of traveling. Gary, on the other hand, had grown up in Pallet Town, where he had to face more challenging conditions. He was used to enduring hardships.

"Okay then, please take care of yourself, Sabrina," Gary said, trying to keep things light.

Sabrina seemed momentarily surprised by Gary's offer to help. However, after a beat, she slowly extended her hand, understanding what Gary meant. Gary immediately grasped it, shaking it firmly before letting go.

Sabrina's expression remained cold, but inwardly, she felt a strange stir in her heart. For the past fifteen years, Sabrina had barely interacted with anyone of the opposite sex. Gary was the first to make her feel this way in a long time. Despite her calm exterior, something inside her was unsettled.

"Could I see your Abra?" Gary asked, eager to get a closer look at the Pokémon.

"Sure," Sabrina replied, raising her palm to summon the Poké Ball. With a soft flick of her fingers, the ball appeared in her hand, a demonstration of her Psychic abilities.

The Poké Ball opened, revealing an Abra. It stood still, its eyes closed as it appeared ready to fall asleep.

[LV20 Abra♂ / Quasi-Elite]

Gary examined it closely. Though this Abra was one level below Sabrina's, its potential was still remarkable—categorized as Quasi-Elite, it was more than capable of becoming a strong asset. Apart from his Squirtle, this would be the highest potential Pokémon Gary had.

"This Abra has excellent mental power. It's very close to my previous one," Sabrina commented with a small smile.

Gary nodded appreciatively. "It's a great Pokémon. But... is there a Teleporter here?"

Sabrina tilted her head in confusion. "A Teleporter? Why do you need one?"

Gary explained, "I already have six Pokémon, so I need to send one back to Professor Oak."

Sabrina nodded. "I see. Come with me."

Najun led them to a room next to the breeding house. There, a teleporter was set up to help manage the Pokémon in the gym. Gary stepped forward and activated the teleporter, dialing Professor Oak's laboratory number.

In moments, the screen flickered to life, and Professor Oak's face appeared.

"Professor Oak!" Gary exclaimed.

"Professor Oak?" Sabrina and her family looked at the screen in shock. They had seen Professor Oak on TV many times, and they recognized him instantly.

"Oh, hello," Professor Oak said, spotting Sabrina and her family behind Gary. He waved warmly at them.

"Hello, Professor Oak. I'm Najun, the owner of Saffron Gym. We've met before. Do you remember?" Najun asked, extending a friendly greeting.

"Ah, Mr. Najun, the Psychic. It's been a long time," Professor Oak recalled, a hint of recognition lighting up his face. "I remember you from my youth. You've been doing well, I see."

"Yes, thank you, Professor. But I have a question. What's your relationship with Gary?" Najun asked, his curiosity piqued.

"Gary? He's my grandson," Professor Oak answered with a proud smile.

Najun was stunned. "Gary's your grandson? I didn't know that."

Gary, as Professor Oak's grandson, could obviously catch all sorts of Pokémon, but it was clear from his humble nature that Professor Oak hadn't spoiled him. He had been raised to catch Pokémon on his own, without relying on family connections.

Gary quickly shifted the topic. "Professor Oak, I'm currently in Saffron City. Things are going well, and I've already earned three badges."

"That's great to hear," Professor Oak said, his face lighting up. "Have you caught any new Pokémon? Orange and Yellow have already sent some over, but I haven't received anything from you or Ash yet."

Gary felt a bit guilty. He had been focused on his battles, but he knew Professor Oak was expecting some Pokémon. "Actually, I was planning to send a Pokémon back today."

"Ah! What Pokémon is it?" Professor Oak asked eagerly.

"Butterfree," Gary replied.

"Ah, the Flash Butterfree! Send it over right away! I'd love to examine it," Professor Oak urged.

Gary smiled. Flash Butterfree had always been special, and Professor Oak was right to be interested in it. It was a rare and valuable Pokémon.

Gary turned to Butterfree, who was standing by his side. He spoke to it gently. "I'll be sending you back to Professor Oak, alright?"

Butterfree flapped its wings and hovered in place, understanding Gary's intentions.

"I'll send it right away," Gary said, before activating the teleporter once again.

As the familiar whirring sound filled the air, Butterfree's image flickered away, beginning its journey to Professor Oak's lab.

With that, Gary had completed another step in his journey—and Sabrina's adventure with him was just beginning.
