Pokemon: The Master Of Monsters

Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Vs Lian

"Sabrina...! You're the Saffron Gym Master!" Lian, the Gym Leader of Vermilion City, exclaimed. He knew Sabrina well, as she was a prominent figure in the Kanto Region. He was aware that Sabrina was a Psychic-type Gym Leader. But... what was she doing here?

"The Golden Gym has been handed over to my father, and I am no longer the Gym Leader," Sabrina explained.

Lian felt a bit embarrassed. He had hoped to make a move on Sabrina, but meeting a tough Psychic like her caught him off guard. He quickly apologized, realizing his mistake before it escalated.

Despite Sabrina trying to keep her personal matters private, Vermilion City was close enough to Saffron City that Lian had heard about her—he knew she was a powerful Psychic.

"Can we start the gym battle?" Gary interrupted the conversation, eager to get things going.

Gary didn't want to waste too much time on the Gym challenge. If it ended quickly, his Pokémon could start their morning training as planned.

"Okay, then come with me." Lian looked at Gary. Though he was just a child, the fact that he was with Sabrina made Lian stop underestimating him.

The two of them walked to the battlefield, each taking their position in the command area.

The Vermilion Gym was state-of-the-art. Trainers who specialized in Electric-type Pokémon were typically tech-savvy, so it made sense that the gym would be equipped with advanced technology.

The referee was a smart assistant system.

"Now, let's begin the Gym battle," the system announced. "The battle will be 1-on-1."

Ding!

The bell rang, and Lian threw his Poké Ball.

"Go, Raichu!"

A hefty Raichu appeared. Unlike most Raichu, Lian's Pokémon looked just as fierce as its Trainer, its expression one of determination.

[LV30 Raichu♂/Gym]

Although Lian's Raichu had solid potential, its level wasn't particularly high.

"Scizor, I'm counting on you," Gary said, throwing his Poké Ball.

With a flash of red, Scizor appeared, its red armor gleaming.

"Zha!" Scizor cried out.

Lian raised an eyebrow. "This kid's not ordinary." He recognized Scizor immediately. Just the presence of Scizor alone made Gary stronger than most Trainers who challenged him.

"The game begins," the referee called out.

Ding!!!

The battle had started.

"Thunderbolt!" Lian shouted.

"Quick Attack!" Gary commanded simultaneously.

Raichu's cheeks sparked as it fired off a powerful electric laser. Scizor, quick as ever, used Quick Attack to dodge the attack, closing the distance between itself and Raichu. It struck hard, sending Raichu flying back.

"Thunder!" Lian barked.

Raichu, still irritated by the hit, retaliated by sending out a bolt of golden lightning.

"Double Team!" Gary ordered immediately.

Scizor quickly created several clones, causing Raichu's Thunderbolt to miss as it struck one of the decoys. Scizor then rushed forward with the clones in tow.

"Fury Cutter!" Gary called out.

Scizor and its clones rushed toward Raichu with great speed, their pincers glowing with insect energy as they aimed for Raichu.

"Scatter Thunder Shock!" Lian commanded, his eyes narrowing.

Raichu, frustrated with the clones, unleashed a barrage of Thunder Shocks, spreading the electric energy all around it. The clones were quickly dispelled, but Scizor remained. Using its powerful pincers, it absorbed the Thunder Shock, redirecting the energy into the ground, avoiding any damage.

"What! This...!" Lian exclaimed in shock. He knew Steel-type Pokémon weren't particularly vulnerable to Electric-type moves, but this was impressive. Most Steel-types could be paralyzed or take damage, but Scizor had avoided it entirely.

Gary had learned this technique from Pi Shen, and it was a perfect way for Steel Pokémon to counter Electric-type moves. It was like a pseudo-lightning rod, though it wouldn't be completely immune to all Electric-type attacks—only weaker ones would be absorbed.

"Raichu, use Thunderbolt again!" Lian yelled, quickly adapting to the situation.

"After Quick Attack, use Bullet Punch!" Gary responded just as fast.

With a flash of speed, Scizor zipped in front of Raichu, its pincers flashing with silver light as it unleashed a rapid series of Bullet Punches.

Electric Pokémon are generally resistant to Steel-type moves, but the Bullet Punch attack was special. Despite the low power of 40, the rapid-fire nature of the move allowed Scizor to hit over a dozen times, dealing consistent damage.

In fact, Scizor's Technical Expert ability and the Steel-type bonus doubled the Bullet Punch's effectiveness, turning the move into an 80-power attack, making it more than enough to deal with Raichu.

With each punch, Raichu's resistance weakened.

"Thunder...!" Lian's voice faltered. Raichu, injured and weak, summoned one last Thunder attack.

However, Scizor's attack was relentless. As Raichu tried to punch, Scizor's pincers slammed into its face, knocking Raichu out of the fight.

Bang!

Raichu collapsed to the ground, unconscious, its eyes rolling into the back of its head.

"Raichu lost its ability to fight. Scizor wins."

"The winner is the challenger, Gary."

A mechanical voice echoed throughout the gym.

Lian covered his head in disbelief. Though he tried to hide it, the defeat was too much to accept. Gary's tactics had completely countered Raichu's abilities, and he had lost.

The battle was over.

"Congratulations. This is your proof of victory—the Thunder Badge," Lian said, handing Gary the badge.

The Thunder Badge, shaped like a sunflower with a vibrant yellow-orange color, was beautiful and a symbol of victory.

"Thank you," Gary said, taking the badge.

[Ding! Mission completed. Rewards have been distributed to the space backpack.]

After the gym battle, Gary and Sabrina went to the Pokémon Center to rest.

While in the city, they also took the opportunity to release Pokémon for training in the public venue. The training time was extended from one hour to two hours since they were in the city.

Gary primarily focused on Growlithe.

After a few days of training, Growlithe had leveled up to level 12.
