Chapter 1 - Part 1 - Magic and Talent
The wind felt warm.
Rubbing my eyes and opening them, I looked in the direction from which the breeze was blowing and thought about it.
The open glass window—or should I call it a door?
Beyond that, I saw the familiar backs of two people sitting on the veranda.
Their hair fluttered in the wind.
The two of them were chatting away.
Wiggling my short arms and legs, I slowly moved towards the veranda.
The closer I got to them, the louder their quiet conversation became.
“… So, starting tomorrow, I’ll be heading off right away.”
“Oh, I see….”
“Yeah. Oh, Eunha!”
Noticing that I had gotten up and was walking towards them, Auntie Suna turned her body and smiled at me.
Her long hair flowed gently in the wind.
My mother, who was sitting beside her, reached out her hand and lifted me up.
I stayed quietly in my mother’s arms.
Watching me, Auntie Suna spoke.
“Eunha walks really well now.”
I felt a little embarrassed by the pride in her expression.
My mother nodded with a pleased look.
“Yeah, she’s walking pretty well now. How’s your little one?”
“Well, Inha just started walking. Eunha’s a bit better at it. Eunha’s birthday is a little earlier than Inha’s, after all.”
“That’s true.”
At those words, I imagined Inha’s face and smiled bashfully.
Auntie Suna was my mom’s best friend, and whenever she came to visit, she would often bring her daughter, Inha, with her.
Whenever that happened, I would always sit nearby and admire Inha’s face.
I couldn’t help it—Inha was an incredibly beautiful baby.
For some reason, her black eyes had a hint of blue, which I found absolutely fascinating.
Inha was definitely going to grow up to be an extraordinary beauty.
But of course, with parents as stunning as hers, that was no surprise.
Even Auntie Suna, who was sitting here laughing, was so beautiful that it was hard to believe she was a mother.
Her silver eyes, as clear as frozen crystals, were incredibly mesmerizing.
Moreover, thanks to her high-level magical abilities, her outward appearance had stopped aging in her early twenties.
But honestly, Auntie Suna’s husband was even more beautiful.
He had a cold and intellectual air about him, but his gentle expression made the word “cute” suit him perfectly.
It was even more adorable that, despite his looks, he was always making little mistakes.
I was lost in thought when Auntie Suna took me from my mother and held me in her arms.
She looked at me, her eyes crinkling in a smile.
She was so beautiful that I almost became dazed.
How could anyone look at her and think she was a mother?
“This will be the last time I get to see our cute little Eunha like this. It’s a bit sad.”
That was the topic of the conversation they had been having.
Hearing Auntie Suna’s words, my mother spoke in a slightly tearful voice.
“What do you mean, ‘last’? It’s not like we’ll never see each other again….”
Auntie Suna smiled brightly at that.
“That’s true. But this will be the last time I see her as a baby, right?”
“Don’t worry. I’ll send you pictures….”
My mom muttered, looking disheartened.
“… You really can’t stay, can you?”
Auntie Suna gave her a wry smile.
“Of course not. It’s my duty. I’m just glad I don’t have to go to another planet.”
Auntie Suna opened her hand, and a small ice crystal formed at her fingertips, swirling into the air.
Amidst the spring breeze, a cold chill could be felt.
The ice crystal transformed into a snowflake and drifted down.
Even though I shivered at the sudden cold, I couldn’t help but watch Auntie Suna’s magic with wonder.
I couldn’t help it.
In this world, magic like this might be normal, but I came from a world where such things didn’t exist before I was born here.
No matter how many times I saw it, it was still fascinating.
Being able to manipulate something like that so freely….
I reached out my hand towards the falling ice crystal.
Auntie Suna smiled as she watched.
“Oh my.”
With a small gasp, Auntie Suna created an ice crystal twice the size of the one floating in the air and placed it in my hand.
I marveled at the cold object, playing with it in my hand.
This might be something simple for the people of this world.
And yet, Auntie Suna was especially extraordinary.
After all, she was a renowned magician, known for her power across the entire world.
She had two main magical specialties and ranked within the top 100 magicians worldwide.
She had even achieved the status of an S-rank magician in her mid-twenties!
It was an unbelievable record.
The most unbelievable part was that she was a close acquaintance of mine and that she was currently holding me affectionately in her arms.
“Hmm, it seems Eunha really likes this.”
Auntie Suna gently stroked my head.
My mom watched us quietly before brushing her hair behind her ear with a slightly sad expression.
“It’s tough, even having such a capable friend… I’ll miss you.”
“It’s not that big of a deal. I’ll send emails and letters regularly, and we’ll have lots of video calls. What’s this, you don’t plan on contacting me? Why’s the famously capable communications magician, Han Mirae, acting like this~?”
“As if! But it’s still a bit sad… not being able to actually hold hands or meet in person.”
“Come on. It’s not like we’re lovers who can’t live without each other.”
But despite her blunt words, Auntie Suna smiled and opened one arm to pull my mother into a tight hug.
“I’ll miss you too. So, contact me anytime. Even if it’s in the middle of the night, it’s totally fine.”
“I wouldn’t do that….”
“Still. And besides, you have your husband and Eunha. Of course, I have my husband and daughter, too…. But don’t ignore me completely, or I’ll be upset.”
“As if I would.”
“Right? Of course.”
Watching the two of them say their farewells, I lowered my head, feeling a bit of sadness too.
I knew I wasn’t as close to Auntie Suna as my mom was, but I had also grown attached to her, as she visited us daily.
Plus, her whole family was so beautiful that it was a feast for the eyes.
Lost in my thoughts, I instinctively grabbed Auntie Suna’s sleeve.
She looked at me with wide eyes and laughed while still hugging me with one arm and my mom with the other.
“Oh?”
My mother also laughed, seeing me act that way.
“It looks like Eunha knows you’re leaving. She’s sad about it.”
“Ah… I’m sad too, leaving such an adorable Eunha behind! Oh, what am I going to do! Eunha’s just too cute!”
Auntie Suna exclaimed as she hugged me tightly.
“Sorry, but I still have to go. Oh, I’m really going to miss this.”
She murmured, her face scrunching up with emotion.
My mom smiled and asked.
“You said you’re leaving tomorrow, right? I’ll come see you off. How are you going?”
“I’ll be using the international warp array. Even though we’re just a B-rank organization, we still qualify to use it.”
“You alone qualify to use it, don’t you? After all, you’re ranked 98th in the world, Ms. Magician.”
Auntie and mom both laughed as they exchanged glances.
And so, I had reincarnated.
At first, there was only deep darkness, and my consciousness sank so far that I couldn’t feel anything.
But then, the darkness began to stir, and my awareness slowly started to surface.
I heard the sound of a heartbeat and felt warmth enveloping my body.
It was cozy, warm, and comfortable.
I savored that sweet sense of peace.
But that sensation didn’t last long.
How long had I listened to that warm heartbeat?
Suddenly, I felt my body being squeezed, and in an instant, cold air hit my entire body.
Joyful voices surrounded me, and gentle hands reached out to me.
I didn’t understand what was happening, so I wailed loudly.
Some time passed before I realized it.
Ah, I’ve been reincarnated.
Most people would have been shocked and in disbelief upon realizing they’d reincarnated.
But not me.
For one thing, this wasn’t my first time reincarnating—or rather, it wasn’t my first time living a new life.
More importantly, this life had been promised to me.
The first thing I did after regaining my senses was check the “Pocket Dimension” the goddess had given me.
Fortunately, it was still functioning perfectly.
All the items I had collected in my previous life were stored there.
I was glad I had asked her for the Pocket Dimension—it was the best decision I had made.
Of course, there was something wrong with her, too, since she gave it to me so easily just because I called her name.
Our goddess was far too kind.
The next thing I did was go over my memories.
I recalled my past life.
A life that could be considered long or short.
The people I cherished, the ones I loved.
As I thought of the memories that stood out most vividly, I smiled in my young body.
There were some gaps in my memories, but those were intentionally omitted, as had been promised.
The world I had reincarnated into was quite different from the one I had lived in before.
It was similar to 21st-century Earth, but everything was different.
For one thing, the year was 202X.
Yet for such a date, civilization was incredibly advanced.
Robots were common, flying cars were the norm, virtual games existed, and space travel was an everyday thing.
And yet, when it came to culture—games, books, and comics—they were about ten years behind.
It felt like works from the 2000s in my previous life were just now being released here.
The biggest difference was this: “magic.”
I wiggled my short arms and legs, barely managing to sit up, and focused intently on the TV broadcast in front of me.
