Chapter 48: The Elf Queen's Resolve
"Come in." I called out.
Sera and Rachel came in.
"Hey Sera, good to see you." I said, still lying in bed.
"I am delighted to see you as well, my king." said Sera. "Might I congratulate you for successfully conquering the fairies?"
"Yes, thank you."
"Well done. I always believed it would be impossible for anyone to conquer the fairies. They are too powerful to fight and too capricious to negotiate with."
"Conquering the fairies was pretty exhausting." I said, being purposefully ambiguous.
Rachel seemed awed. Nice.
"So, may I ask why you sent the fairies to retrieve me?"
"Ah yes, the elves seemed uncertain about accepting me as their king and concerned about the presence of the fairies. I thought your presence here would reassure them."
"Is that all?" asked Sera, concealing her frustration.
Rachel had a guilty look on her face.
"Yeah, that's it. Anyway, what's going on with the amazons?"
"While you were away, we agreed that the amazons would move to the elf village."
"Oh, good idea. It would be nice to have everyone in one place. But, will that be alright?"
"I believe so, we plan to expand the elf village to accommodate everyone, and there should be enough wild game in the area for the amazons to hunt."
"Perfect."
"Then, if you'll excuse me," said Sera as she left.
"The nerve of that man. I can hardly believe he would do such a thing and it was clear he was not expecting any reproach." Sera muttered to herself as she walked the halls of the palace. "He was just lying there offering no apology. It's as if he believes I have nothing to complain about."
Sera was rather disheveled and she had been travelling so she was headed to the baths.
"What is he playing at? Is this part of some scheme? Is it to imbalance me? To assert his authority? Ah, it must be to teach us elves not to question him or doubt him." Sera continued muttering about it while she bathed. "Well, I suppose I can tolerate such things so long as he executes his duties as well."
An hour or so later, I was still lounging around in bed when I noticed someone approaching. I can recognize her magic now too, it's Sera. I'm making surprising progress with magic perception while I just lie around. It's already becoming second nature for me.
She was pacing back and forth outside the door for a while, making me pretty anxious. Rachel had already left and no one came to replace her. It's kind of a relief, I don't need a room guard.
Finally, she stopped pacing and knocked.
"Come in." I called out.
Sera came in, blushing, and started taking off her clothes. I should do something about this stupid custom before the elves try it on some other guy.
"Good evening, my king." said Sera. "I have come to request that you honor your conjugal obligation tonight."
I watched as Sera's face turned redder while I tried to parse the meaning of her statement.
". . . with me." continued Sera, turning her gaze to the floor.
I can't even imagine a more formal way to proposition someone.
