Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Headbutt
Thud
Thud
The collision of wheels against the rugged ground reverberated through the stillness.
"We have reached the destination."
Stepping out of the vehicle, a beautiful scene unfolded before Sam's eyes.
A forest glowing under the moonlight, with the ground radiating a soft, dim light.
The masked man exited the vehicle and stood beside Sam, handing him a small instrument.
"Wear this on your hand."
Taking it, Sam slipped it onto his wrist as the masked man continued.
"It functions as a watch and displays your live location."
"Hmm," Sam murmured.
"You need to prepare yourself for the upcoming challenges. In a week, I'll return to pick you up," the masked man informed him, detailing every little instruction before driving away in his vehicle.
Now standing alone at the periphery of the forest, Sam stretched his body.
"Six hours of non-stop sitting drained all my energy," he muttered and moved toward the forest.
Standing on one of the branches of a tree, his voice trailed off, "It's been a long time."
Swish
Swish
Leaping continuously from branch to branch, he finally stood at the top of a tree, where only the tips of the tallest trees pierced through the sky, their end unfathomable.
"This forest might cover millions of square kilometers," he speculated.
Continuing to venture deeper into the forest, he muttered under his breath, "I need to find that place."
Opening the map on his wristwatch, he stared intently at the screen.
"So, the boundary lies in that direction," he noted before leaping down to the ground.
"It'll take around two days to get there."
Roar
A deep, angry sound echoed through the forest. Small aerial creatures scattered into the sky, while Sam ran toward the source of the noise.
"Let's check it out since it's on my path," he said.
Suddenly, he grabbed a branch and swung into the air.
Swish
A snake brushed past him. Narrowly dodging, his eyes locked on his attacker.
Hiss!
....
Grabbing the limp snake, Sam wrapped it around his neck and licked the residual blood on his lip.
"Its blood does wonders for reducing fatigue," he remarked, continuing calmly on his way.
Swish
Swish
Sam's eyes widened as he ducked to the ground, narrowly avoiding an uprooted tree that flew past him.
Calming his racing heart, he moved swiftly and silently.
Perched on a branch, a faint smile appeared on his face.
"A bloodbath under the moonlight—both beautiful and terrifying," he mused.
Growling, a Dark Raptor darted down, tearing a chunk of flesh from a mammoth before ascending into the air.
Awww!
Aww!
The mammoth shuddered, refusing to leave the spot while keeping a watchful eye on the Dark Raptor.
"Oh, there's a mammoth baby," Sam observed. "This seems perfect for me."
The Raptor, having swallowed its chunk of meat, prepared to strike again. With its sharp claws ready, it dove toward the mammoth.
Shivering, the mammoth shielded its youngling beneath its massive body. But as the Raptor's claws neared, the mammoth turned unexpectedly and unleashed a powerful shockwave from its mouth.
The Raptor, caught off guard, tried to counter. It materialized a blade from its claw, which clashed with the shockwave. However, without the advantage of momentum, the blade faltered, and the shockwave struck the Raptor directly.
Sam, watching intently, noticed how the Raptor's wings hardened just before the shockwave hit, shielding its body.
Thud
Thud
The Raptor crashed through numerous trees, creating chaos, before colliding with a boulder.
Cracks spider-webbed across the boulder as the predator struggled to rise, blood dripping from its sleek body.
"Hiss! That was just from a shockwave!" Sam gasped, sucking in a cold breath.
Chiiii
The Raptor let out a shrill cry as blood splattered onto the ground. Though its body bled profusely, the Raptor stood defiantly, its sheer willpower causing the boulder to crumble further.
The mammoth, with all its weight, charged at the Raptor.
Unable to bear the sight, Sam covered his eyes with his hands, peeking cautiously through the gaps between his fingers.
With his mouth shut tight, Sam hissed softly.
Plop
The Raptor, overwhelmed, turned into a mangled mess of flesh.
Rising from the ground, the young mammoth followed and began feasting on the remains of the Raptor, swallowing it all into its bottomless pit.
Admiring nature's brutal beauty, Sam drifted away from the scene.
No one knows when a battle might take an unexpected turn and overturn your life.
This was a lesson Sam had learned in the forest.
Only the tenacious and resilient survived here.
Continuing deeper into the forest, Sam finally found a target to test his strength.
"Let's use this beast," he said.
Gripping a sturdy branch, he leapt onto the beast. Its claws clashed against the branch, neutralizing the attack.
Landing firmly on the ground, Sam tossed aside the fractured branch and delivered a powerful punch toward the beast.
As its claws swiped toward him, Sam ducked and delivered an uppercut to its jaw, narrowly avoiding its claws—though one nail scratched his face.
The two circled each other, eyes locked, waiting for the other to make a move.
Wiping the blood from his face, Sam suddenly found the beast's face inches away from his. Its claws were just ten inches from his head.
Instinctively, he headbutted it with all his strength and grabbed its foreleg.
With a burst of power, he hurled the beast into the air and rubbed his forehead.
"Too solid," he muttered.
Shaking off the dizziness, the beast roared in anger. Its canines sharpened, and its claws glistened menacingly under the moonlight as it unleashed its ultimate skill.
"Is this your skill?" Sam revealed a faint smile.
