RWBY: Ascent

Chapter 2: To Get a New Start

---------------------------------------------------------First Person POV---------------------------------------------------------------------------

All I saw for a second was white. Then, everything came rushing at me, like when falling in a dream. I got up off the floor and took a view around me. Luckily, I was able to identify where I was due to being pretty familiar with RWBY.

"It seems like I'm on the edge of a city. It's not Mantle or Atlas since there's no floating city in the sky. It's definitely not Vacuo since everything isn't a desert. And there aren't any abundance of small shacks or faunus, nor is there a sea breeze so it's not Menagerie. I don't think it's Mistral since I remember Mistral having a more rustic vibe to it. I can't believe how lucky I am. I'm pretty sure I'm in Vale."

I took a second to take it all in. The sun on my face, the small breeze, sounds of animals and people in the distance, and just being able to feel anything. It was so insane. I finally was free from that damned abyss.

"Alright, first things first. Time to find out when I am. Am I before the show started or after? Definitely before season three since Vale is still in tact. Let's hope I can find some clue about everything by walking around. I also really want to find some sort of mirror or window, cause I have no clue what I look like."

I started my trek into Vale and made my way towards what I assumed to be the main part of the city. Although, as I passed by a shop front I stopped and looked at myself in a window.

"That's... something alright. I look like a stereotypical protagonist. Black hair, really prominent blue eyes, and a pretty sharp face. At this point I might as well mimic Sung Jin Woo's sense of fashion. Though, with the clothes I have on I might already be doing that," I whispered, hoping no one noticed me checking myself out in a shop window.

My clothes consisted of a dark undershirt with a black short sleeve jacket on top. My pants were a very dark blue, essentially navy color. Aside from that though, there wasn't much else. I did happen to have a necklace on. There was a silver symbol on it that seemed to be an electric swirl. Sort of like the typical lightning symbol you'd see in most video games.

"All in all, not too bad. I think I look pretty good. Definitely not ugly, so thank god for that. Do I even have anything on me though?"

I patted my pockets to check if there was anything in them. Surprisingly, there actually was. In my left pocket I pulled out a wallet. When I opened it there were a few things inside. The first thing was a note that dropped out. I picked up the note and started to read it.

'I've done you the service of making sure you already have an established identity in this world. You will find that you have an identity and bank account already in your name. I didn't put anything in that bank account of course, so it's up to you to fill it up. Aside from that, I've also granted you a unique body. Since you attained Ryomen Sukuna's abilities and experience, I've decided to alter your body to utilize cursed energy instead of aura for all of your abilities. However, your body does also possess aura. It's just only serves to act as the normal aura shield and enhance your bodies capabilities. You won't be getting a semblance however. With all that said, I do hope you enjoy your second chance.'

- From, A Curious Observer

"Well how about that. I'm not just gonna be a ghost with no ID in this world. At least government officials won't question me then. I wonder what my name is though," I said with a sigh of relief.

I as soon as I placed the note back into my wallet, I watched it suddenly vanish. I guess it's a good idea that there's no trace of me being not of this world. After that, I pulled out the ID that happened to be sitting in my wallet.

"Oh you've got to be kidding me. My name is Ryze Prominence? I mean sure, Ryze isn't a bad first name, but Prominence just sounds pretentious. Oh well, I guess it'll have to do."

After staring at my ID with the most deadpan look on my face for another minute, I put it away and decided to start figuring things out around me. After walking around for a bit I managed to ask a nice old lady where the nearest library was. Once I arrived at the library, they thankfully had computers I was able to use for free.

"I don't know if I'll ever get used to these computers. Luckily it's not that hard to use them though. Huh, looks like the Beacon entrance exam is about three months away. So hopefully that means right now it's three months before the start of the show. I think I can work with that. Though, might luck might be running out. I've got no clue how to get into Beacon. All the application spot for the exam are already filled. The only way I can think of getting in now is if I was with Ruby on the night of her running into Roman for the first time."

I walked out of the library and started to stroll around the streets. "I can't believe this, what am I gonna do? I have no clue what night Ruby met Roman. How the heck am I supposed to-"

Right as I was saying that, I walked past a store front. This one being very familiar to me.

From Dust Till Dawn - Now Hiring!

"...Alright I might actually have protagonist luck. This is the store Ruby met Roman at, and they're hiring. What in the world are the chances?"

About an hour later, I walked out of the store with some some papers in hand and a new clerk apron. Luckily enough, the old dude running the shop just needed someone to man the counter at nights, which I was perfectly fine with since that worked out great for me. He even to pay me upfront for the first two weeks of work since I explained that I needed some starting money to get a place to live and also agreed to work full night shifts for the first month.

"Well that was nice of him. Can't believe he actually agreed to give me two weeks pay up front. What a sweet old man. I guess that checks off how I'm going to get into Beacon. Now I've just got to find a cheap place to live for the next three months and I'll be set."

After some more searching on the computer at the library, I was able to find this pretty cheap place for rent on the outskirts of the city. It was a cramped apartment with only a bathroom and small living area, but it would do for three months.

"Now, time to see what I can do. I already remember all of Sukuna's skills and experiences. It's like my body has the muscle memory of a fighting master. Not only that, bringing forth lighting is as easy as breathing. I think I'll just spend the first month adjusting to this body and all of Sukuna's fighting skills. For the second month I'll practice with all of Sukuna's skills so it becomes second nature when I use them. Shouldn't be too hard considering I have his muscle memory and experience with using them all. Last month I think I'll just spend experimenting with my total lightning manipulation. If it works how I want it to, there's definitely a lot of abilities I want to see if I can replicate from some shows and games I used to watch and play."

Later, I arrived at the place where they were renting out the small apartment. I talked with the man who owned it and managed to get a three month lease. Time to make myself home in this world.
