Chapter 24: swim and relax (a moment of peace): 2
Alicia couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head. "You really are something else," she said, her smile finally breaking through. "But... this place is beautiful. I've never seen anything like it."
Selina nodded, her eyes sparkling as she looked around. "I knew you'd appreciate it. This is a special part of the Sanctuary, hidden deep within the heart of the land. It's a place for peace and healing, where the magic of the water can rejuvenate your spirit."
Alicia glanced at the glowing water once more, feeling a sense of calm wash over her. "It really does feel magical," she whispered. "Like it's alive."
Selina stepped closer to the edge of the pool and beckoned Alicia forward. "Come on," she said softly. "Let's take that swim. The water's not just for show, it has a way of making everything feel lighter. You'll see."
Alicia hesitated for a moment, still feeling a little shaken from the wild slide. But as she watched the glowing water and felt the magic of the place, a small smile formed on her lips. Nodding to herself, she began to untie her boots, slipping them off before carefully removing her outer clothes. She was left in her inner garments light, comfortable, and perfect for swimming. The warmth of the cave air brushed against her skin, calming her nerves as she mentally prepared herself for the water.
Just as Alicia turned to tell Selina she was ready, she caught a glimpse of her sister already stripped down to her own inner clothes. Selina, ever the playful spirit, had a mischievous grin on her face. Without warning, she took several steps back, then sprinted forward. With a burst of laughter, she leaped into the air from the ledge, arms outstretched, and executed a perfect dive into the water. The splash she created was enormous, sending shimmering droplets high into the air.
Alicia shielded her face from the spray, giggling as the water rained down around her. She watched as Selina resurfaced, her hair slicked back and her laughter echoing off the cave walls. The sight of her sister's joy was infectious, and Alicia felt her own spirits lifting.
"Come on!" Selina called out, her voice light and teasing. "The water's amazing!"
Alicia took a deep breath, her nerves slowly being replaced with excitement. She approached the edge of the pool, looking down at the glowing water below. It was mesmerizing, shimmering with a soft blue light that seemed to pulse with the energy of the Sanctuary. She dipped a toe in and gasped in surprise—it wasn't cold at all, but warm, like a soothing bath. Encouraged, Alicia waded in slowly, letting the water envelop her as she ventured deeper.
Once she was waist-deep, she turned to see Selina floating effortlessly on her back, Alicia shook her head with a smile and decided to follow her sister's lead. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and pushed off from the rocky bottom, allowing herself to float. The warmth of the water was immediately calming, and as she drifted, she felt her muscles relax and her mind quiet.
"It's like nothing I've ever felt before," Alicia said softly, her voice filled with awe. "This place... it's magical in every way."
"It is," Selina agreed, her voice peaceful. "The Sanctuary has a way of healing us, of making us feel whole again. That's why I brought you here, Alicia. I knew it would help."
Alicia opened her eyes, gazing up at the glowing ceiling above. The beauty of the place was overwhelming, and for the first time in a long while, she felt a sense of peace—a deep, genuine peace that filled her heart. She glanced over at her sister, who was watching her with a soft smile, her eyes filled with love.
"Thank you, Selina," Alicia said, her voice sincere. "For bringing me here, for everything."
Selina paddled closer to her, gently touching her arm. "You don't have to thank me," she said softly. "I'll always be here for you, Alicia. No matter what."
The two sisters shared a quiet moment, floating together in the glowing water, the magic of the Sanctuary surrounding them like a warm embrace. The worries of the world seemed far away now, and for Alicia, it felt as though the Sanctuary was working its magic on her heart, slowly healing the wounds she had carried for so long.
they swam in silence, the soft sound of the waterfall echoed through the cave, and Alicia found herself lost in the moment. She knew that there would be challenges ahead, that life wouldn't always be this peaceful. But for now, she allowed herself to savor this time with her sister, to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of this magical place.
And for the first time in what felt like forever, Alicia felt truly hopeful, a reminder that, no matter what challenges lay ahead, there was always light and warmth to guide her. And with her sister by her side, Alicia knew she could face whatever the future held.
The two finished swimming and slowly made their way to the shallow edge of the lake. With gentle strokes, they glided toward the land, where smooth stones formed a natural ledge at the water's surface. Pulling themselves up, they sat down side by side, their legs still dangling in the warm, glowing water.
Alicia let out a soft sigh as she leaned back on her hands, feeling the cool, solid earth beneath her. The warmth of the water still caressed her feet and legs, a pleasant contrast to the cool cave air that brushed against her damp skin. She looked over at Selina, who was also settling comfortably beside her, her hair dripping wet but her eyes sparkling with contentment.
"That was incredible," Alicia said, her voice filled with awe. "I don't think I've ever felt so... free."
Selina nodded in agreement, her expression soft and peaceful. "It's like the water just washes everything away," she murmured. "All the worries, the doubts… even if only for a little while, they just disappear."
They sat in a comfortable silence for a few moments, listening to the soft sounds of the cave. The gentle trickle of the waterfall echoed through the cavern, and the glow of the pool bathed everything in a soft, ethereal light. It was a peaceful moment, one that felt almost timeless.
Alicia let her mind drift, feeling a deep sense of calm settle over her. "Do you think we'll be able to hold onto this feeling when we leave?" she asked quietly, voicing the thought that had been lingering in her mind.
Selina looked over at her sister, her expression thoughtful. "I think the peace we find here stays with us," she said softly. "Even when we're out there facing the world again. It's a part of us now."
Alicia smiled, reassured by her sister's words. She leaned her head back and closed her eyes, soaking in the last moments of tranquility. The world outside seemed far away, and for now, all that mattered was this peaceful sanctuary and the bond she shared with Selina.
But, as with all moments, time moved forward. Slowly, the glow of the water began to fade, as if the Sanctuary itself was gently urging them to leave. Alicia noticed the dimming light and nudged her sister. "I think it's time," she said softly.
Selina glanced at the pool and nodded, though there was a hint of reluctance in her eyes. "Yeah," she agreed, standing up and stretching her arms. "But I feel... lighter, don't you?"
Alicia smiled as she stood, her feet sinking slightly into the cool earth. "I do," she said, her voice soft but certain. "Like maybe everything will be okay."
Selina grinned and reached out, pulling Alicia into a playful embrace. "That's the spirit!" she teased before letting go. "Come on, let's head back. There's still a world waiting for us out there."
With one last glance at the now-darkened pool, the two sisters began making their way out of the cave. Their steps were light, and their hearts were a little lighter, too. They knew challenges awaited them beyond the Sanctuary, but the magic of the place, and the bond they shared, would help them carry that peace with them wherever they went.
