Chapter 25: Glory (1)
In that twilight moment when darkness ended and the first rays of daylight appeared on the horizon, the training ground lay under a heavy cover of silence and anticipation. The scars of hard training were everywhere; broken pieces of wood, arrowheads buried in the ground and shattered wooden weapons were strewn about, silent witnesses to past struggles. On the field, the smell of sweat and blood mingled together, a bitter reminder in Baek Yisoo's every breath.
Under his feet, the ground was damp and compacted, small waves of mud forming with each step. After the long rains, the field, like his will, was resilient and determined. The pale sunlight on the horizon was slowly lifting the veil of fog over the training ground, and it revived hope in him.
All that could be heard was heavy breathing and the rustle of his spear as it met the air. Each movement was heavier and more decisive than the last. Baek Yisoo's shadow lengthened and shortened on the dusty floor of the training ground in the weak morning light.
The voices in his mind woke up with the first light of the morning. The ache he felt in every muscle was a reminder of his goal. The drops of blood that washed the earth represented his will.
"Why do you keep going?" he asked himself. He was so tired that he didn't want to make his next move.
"This pain is temporary," he consoled himself. His feet pressed harder into the ground, each step more determined than the last. "But what I have gained will be permanent."
The heaviness in his chest was not only from exhaustion, but also from despair. Every drop of sweat, every breath fueled the fire of this despair.
"Hang on," he told himself again. His uniform, torn to shreds from the friction, finally fell off him. He was left only in his sweatpants.
It had been almost a month. Baek Yisoo had never missed a day of training since he had first taken the job, each day more rigorous than the last. He had long since left human norms behind.
His spiritual transformation was stunning. Failure did not make him sad, but angry and even mad.
The spear in Baek Yisoo's hand suddenly broke and fell to the ground. He hadn't adjusted the force behind the strike well, so the moment it made contact with the hay bale, it broke in the middle.
"Damn it! How many times has this happened?!" shouted Baek Yisoo angrily. Turtle Shield Art, Long Fist Style and Waterfall Steps. He had successfully completed the first stage of these techniques, but the first move of the White Water Way, the Current, he could not manage.
He calmed himself by taking a deep breath. His calloused palms were well worn. He was in a lot of pain, his eyes were teary, but his anger was much more dominant.
He picked up another wooden spear. Great punishments awaited him because he had wasted his training weapons unnecessarily. But he didn't care about anything anymore. Nothing but completing the mission.
He picked up a new bale of straw and calmed himself down.
As soon as he started spinning the spear in his hand, he closed his eyes and his breathing became regular. He was spinning the spear skillfully. Each movement seemed to represent the flow of water. The tip of the spear floated back and forth as if dancing with the air.
Suddenly, both gentle and determined, he swung the spear parallel to the ground, lifting the sand into the air. It was as if he had created a riverbed and let his spear go with the flow of the water. His spear cut through this cloud of dust in the form of a wave from top to bottom. It was a move that would scatter the opponent's defenses like a stream of water rolling and shaping stones.
The tip of the spear resembled the graceful movements of a fish in the water.
As soon as it touched the hay bale, the hay bale shattered.
"…"
Baek Yisoo opened his eyes in surprise and looked at the spear in his hand.
"HAHAHAHAHAHA!"
[Mission accomplished!]
The tension that had been building up in his muscles was suddenly released and Baek Yisoo laid his tired body on the sand. As soon as he lay down, the heavy breathing in his chest slowly eased. He felt as if his eyes were closed and his spirit was free.
The pain he had suffered so far gave way to a sense of peace and contentment. Baek Yisoo gave himself over to the rhythm of the wind, and with the whispering of the wind and the birds singing coquettishly, he felt peace for the first time in a month.
Ever since Kok Seong had visited the training ground, he had been in the midst of unprecedented competition. He was less talented than the others and had too much to deal with. The intensity of the training was to the point of suicidal thoughts. This was the biggest reason why he lagged behind the others.
Fortunately he had Minji and was able to use her to comfort him. Without her he would have already collapsed mentally and spiritually.
It was not only a moment of relief for him, but also a moment of achievement. He had overcome a difficult process, surpassed himself and successfully completed [Advanced Training]. A slight smile appeared on his face, the smile of someone who appreciated everything he had achieved, every pain he had endured.
"Finally!"
He had won his inner battle! He had molded himself not only as a martial artist, but as a human being: determination, patience and willpower...
"Now let's look at the rewards! Open Profile!"
He had three rewards. The most important one for him was definitely 2500 EXP.

Baek Yisoo was so happy after seeing the profile that it was impossible to describe it in words. Not only had he jumped nine levels, he had mastered the first level of all four martial arts. His Breath and Health were at their peak.
"Excellent! But I still can't feel my inner energy. Do I need to reach a specific level?"
The amount of inner energy had reached 230. It had increased by almost 200 points, but it was still not enough. Baek Yisoo thought of something else.
"Transfer 7 points to Breath."
BOOM!
A loud booming sound echoed from Baek Yisoo's body. A rumble resembling the sudden bursting of a dam holding hundreds of tons of water resounded through his body. Baek Yisoo's body trembled with the rumble.
Like hundreds of tons of water breaking through a dam, a wave of energy spread from his upper abdomen through his entire body, causing even the sand around him to levitate. As his muscles struggled to resist the flow of energy, his pupils flashed like flashes of lightning.
TRUMBLE!
Suddenly a leaf-green beam surrounded his body. His palms and damaged tissues began to heal under the influence of this light. His fatigue disappeared like ice cream melting on a hot summer day. He suddenly felt energized and refreshed.
"Is this the power of Spring Qi?"
Baek Yisoo jumped to his feet with a slight smile. After weeks of effort and determination, he felt a sense of victory. Feeling the warm energy moving through his body, he was eager to try the movements.
He had forgotten to even look at the last reward he had won.
Since there was no spear available, he tried the Long Fist Style, not the White Waterway Spear. His excitement suddenly subsided. He took a calm and focused stance. His eyes were filled with determination and his breathing was controlled. Suddenly, his inner energy exploded.
SWOOOSH!
His fist moved like a lightning bolt toward its target, both powerful and sharp. It was a very fast punch.
Baek Yisoo was overcome with excitement and tried other techniques.
