Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Teddy Bears
But the stall owner seemed to have noticed that this family's clothing was extraordinary, like a wealthy family, and he wanted to squeeze more money out of them.
"Wow, I didn't expect that not a single toy reward was taken today. These parents really don't understand what their children want."
The owner wiped the toy gun while making a veiled suggestion.
Leon suddenly stopped, looked down at Noah, and asked, "Do you want those teddy bears, Noah?"
Noah pursed her lips, hesitated for a moment, then shook her head. "I don't."
When the eldest daughter says she doesn't want something, it doesn't necessarily mean she really doesn't want it.
Leon then turned to Luna, "Do you want it, Luna?"
"Uh... Luna also... also doesn't want it."
Alright, that clearly means they want it.
Leon guessed it was probably because Luna wanted the balloon-shooting plush toy earlier, which was why Noah pulled her over to the stall.
Leon took Luna's hand and turned back toward the stall.
Noah froze for a moment, looked up at Rossweise, who smiled and nodded at her.
After getting her mother's approval, Noah ran over.
"Ten more shots, boss," Leon said when he returned to the stall.
"Ten shots? Ten shots isn't enough, sir. This game may look simple, but it's actually quite difficult. Your daughter didn't even hit once just now," the boss said, trying to coax Leon into spending more money.
But Leon simply repeated indifferently, "Just ten shots."
"Alright, fine, ten shots."
The boss handed over the same toy gun as before.
Noah took a few coins from her pocket and handed them to the boss.
"Thank you," Leon said.
"Mhm," Noah nodded.
Leon picked up the toy gun, and magical energy flowed from his fingertips into the magazine of the gun.
Apart from aiming, the dragon version of the balloon-shooting game also required precise control of magical energy.
BANG—
The first shot missed.
The boss laughed, "Alright, alright, no worries, keep going."
Luna tugged on Leon's clothes and said, "Dad, maybe don't shoot anymore. It's okay if Luna doesn't get the teddy bear."
Even though the family didn't lack money for the game, and the teddy bear could be bought for a high price, the boss was unlucky to encounter a stubborn family.
Especially the one holding the gun right now.
Leon patted Luna's little head. "It's fine. Dad's got this."
"Yes, yes, sir, you can definitely do it. How about adding some more money for—"
BANG! BANG!P BANG!
Three consecutive shots hit, and three balloons burst in response.
The last word of the boss's sentence was drowned in the sound of popping balloons.
Noah and Luna's eyes lit up.
"Dad, you're amazing! Keep it up, Dad!"
The boss had celebrated too early.
Leon missed the first shot because he was testing how much the gun had been tampered with.
Now, based on that test, Leon recalibrated the gun.
Then, he fired a few more shots.
Out of ten attempts, Leon hit nine times.
The reward was two large teddy bears.
"Thanks, boss. See? I told you ten was enough."
Leon handed the two teddy bears to his daughters.
The boss was close to tears.
'Where did this guy come from? Even with a skewed aim, he still hit the target?'
'Get out of my stall.'
Satisfied, Leon turned around and looked at Rossweise.
The mother dragon stood empty-handed; meanwhile, the two daughters were filled with joy.
After some thought, Leon turned back.
"Boss, ten more shots." [T/N: A fine decision.]
Leon raised the gun and started firing.
Although every bullet hit a balloon, it felt more like it struck the boss's heart.
He had been running this stall for years, tampering with the gun countless times, but he had never met someone so accurate.
The boss glared at Leon with anger in his heart.
However, someone else at the scene had the opposite feeling.
From her perspective, the man before her, focused and serious—albeit a bit stubborn—was extremely charming.
Each time he pulled the trigger, a balloon burst, with it a another heart too.
Although he usually seemed unreliable, whenever he took things seriously, he exuded a special charm.
"Dad is so cool! Super cool!" Luna cheered beside him.
Even Noah looked at Leon with admiration as he shot with focus.
From little Luna and Noah to Rossweise, they all felt the same way.
By the time Rossweise came back to her senses, her arms were already holding a large teddy bear.
It was soft, warm, and furry.
Although in a dragon's mind, bears were merely inedible creatures, as plush toys, they were actually...
'Cute?'
Looking at her daughters' reactions, it was evident.
Even the usually unsmiling Noah couldn't let go of the teddy bear, pinching its paws to make it "fight" with Luna's teddy bear, having great fun.
And this simple joy was something only Leon could bring them.
Her sister, Isa, had always told her that a family couldn't go without a man.
Back then, Rossweise scoffed at the idea, believing she could live well without one.
But thinking back to the earlier situation, if Leon hadn't been there, with Rossweise's personality and status, she would have simply lectured Noah, saying such childish games weren't worth engaging in and were a waste of time.
That was how a queen dealt with things: calm, decisive, and efficient.
They didn't need to waste time, energy, or emotions on trivial matters.
But Leon clearly approached things from a father's perspective.
He didn't want his daughters to learn life lessons during a day out.
Those lessons could come later.
But for now, he had to stand up for his daughters.
This was a parenting philosophy Rossweise could not yet grasp in a short time.
There was nothing wrong with it; she fully supported Leon's actions, all for the daughters' sake.
Rossweise lowered her gaze, resting her chin gently on the teddy bear's head.
When Leon handed it to her earlier, she said she didn't want it.
Leon replied, "The money's spent; should I throw it away?"
She said that wouldn't do.
Thus, the family of four—mother and daughters each holding a large teddy bear—drew the attention of passing dragons.
The man who was empty-handed and even tailless naturally became the focus of attention.
It was clear to everyone that the abundant rewards came from this male dragon who refused to show his tail.
Of course, the onlookers' gazes eventually fell on the teddy bears.
Rossweise, accustomed to being worshiped, found these envious looks unfamiliar.
She even overheard a few little dragons pointing at their teddy bears, telling their parents they wanted one too.
Feeling the attention of the dragonfolk around her, Rossweise buried her face deeper into the soft head of her teddy bear.
"Careful, you might suffocate," Leon suddenly remarked.
"Is it that hard for you to say something nice?"
"Why should I compliment you? This teddy bear counts for 100 compliments. If I say 20 things to you a day, with one being nice, I won't need to compliment you for over three months."
"...Looks like you've recovered. Even your tongue is sharp again, isn't it?"
Leon raised his hands in surrender, miming a zipper at his lips to show he'd stay quiet.
That afternoon, they had a wonderful time at the dragon playground.
Some dragons even recognized Rossweise's identity as the Silver Dragon Queen, likely princes or leaders of other clans.
Out of courtesy, Rossweise exchanged a few words with them.
As evening approached, they returned to Selena's photo studio to pick up the photos from earlier in the day.
The family portrait was large, while the admission photos and sister pictures were smaller. Selena had packed them separately.
On the way back, the father and daughters rode on Rossweise's dragon form.
Luna couldn't wait to unwrap the family portrait, but Leon stopped her.
"We'll open it at home, Luna."
"Okay~ Luna will listen to Daddy~"
After several hours of flying, they returned to the Silver Dragon Sanctuary around 10 PM.
Anna, the maid, had prepared a late-night snack for them.
After filling their stomachs, the four of them gathered in the baby room Leon usually slept in to unwrap the photos.
The first one to be opened was, of course, the family portrait.
Leon quickly tore off the packaging, revealing an exquisite family portrait bit by bit.
Everyone in the photo was making a heart gesture, radiating warmth and happiness.
It perfectly matched Rossweise's standards for their family:
