Chapter 24: Chapter 24: The Navy’s Six Powers!
Aki's old home, a simple straw hut, had been destroyed during Yuri' attack, leaving her with nothing.
The townsfolk, while offering their blessings to Aki for finding her "prince charming" in Shirayama, couldn't help but harbor a tinge of envy. Still, jealousy wouldn't change reality—it could only lead to their own ruin.
So, they chose to let go and wish the young couple well.
Yet for the other girls on the island, Shirayama's growing affection for Aki brought disappointment and frustration. Many couldn't help but wish they had been the ones rescued by him that fateful day.
To be fair, there were girls on the island who were more beautiful than Aki, with better physiques or more refined demeanors.
But none of that mattered. Shirayama didn't fall for looks or charm alone. What drew him to Aki was her warmth and brightness—qualities of a daughter of the sea. She exuded a vitality that reminded him of a carefree breeze.
She was like Makino from the original story—a person whose gentle presence made others feel at ease. But Aki's youth added a lively, playful energy that made her even more endearing.
These subtleties, however, were only understood by Shirayama and Aki themselves.
Shirayama unrolled the scroll handed to him, its crimson ink catching his attention immediately.
The first ten lines were written in bold red, emphasizing the gravity of the content:
"Shave, one of the Navy's Six Powers, is a martial art that transcends the limits of human physical ability. Only by surpassing these limits can one master it!"
"Technique Overview: The practitioner must step on the ground more than ten times within 0.36 seconds, using the resulting rebound force to generate explosive speed. This speed surpasses human limits, rendering the practitioner's movements nearly invisible, thus earning the nickname shadowless step."
"Warning: Mastery of this technique places extreme demands on the body. Attempting it without adequate physical conditioning can result in severe muscle damage and irreparable injury."
Following this preamble were detailed instructions on how to train for Shave:
The proper way to exert force.
The muscle groups to focus on.
Initial intensity levels and safe progression.
Duration of practice sessions.
Rest and recovery techniques.
How to aim precisely at a target location during movement.
Reading through the scroll, Shirayama couldn't help but marvel at the complexity and effort required to master just one technique.
He had chosen Shave as his first focus because, at this stage of his growth, speed and destructive power were his priorities. The technique offered the perfect solution.
If he ever joined the Navy, Shirayama planned to expand his repertoire by learning Iron Body (Tekkai) and Paper Art (Kami-e) to enhance his defense and coordination.
Techniques like Tempest Kick, Moonwalk, and Finger Gun didn't appeal to him, however.
He already possessed the Photon Wings for aerial combat and the Photon Cannon for offense. While the Photon Cannon's power dropped by 40% without the use of his dual pistols, its destructive capacity was still formidable.
His pistols weren't crafted but were manifestations of his awakened abilities—harder than steel and capable of self-repair.
Thus, Whitewater saw no need to learn every Navy technique. Mastering just three would suffice.
"Ten ground steps within 0.36 seconds? With my physical conditioning, it should be possible," Shirayama thought as he stood in an open field, scroll in hand.
He tightened his fists, his resolve growing. This was just the beginning of his journey toward mastering the Navy's legendary combat techniques.
