Chapter 31: Chapter 31: A Close Call!
After they had reached calmer waters, Shirayama finally noticed that Aki had completely collapsed on his back. She had her arms tightly wrapped around his waist, her face pale.
"It's alright now, the sea can be dangerous at times, full of all sorts of thrills," Shirayama reassured her.
"If anything tries to hurt you, they'll have to get through me first!" He gently patted Aki's back, speaking in a soothing tone.
"Come on, if you're tired, you can rest in my arms. Let's head home," Shirayama said, a bit reluctant to leave her like this.
Aki, already in no condition to continue the sea journey, quietly nodded in response, closing her eyes and leaning on Shirayama's shoulder.
Shirayama started to regret that he had only taken a small boat out with Aki. "Next time, if I bring Aki out again, I'll make sure to take a large ship, one just for the two of us," he thought to himself.
This made him think of Water 7, the best place for shipbuilding. Perhaps he could have a small, custom ship made for just him and Aki. Though it was a bit far, Shirayama was confident that he could manage the distance easily.
On the Island of the Ship Cutter!
"Pfft!"
T-Bone was once again pushed back by Chris, spitting out a mouthful of blood, his body covered in wounds that looked like they had been made by thick, finger-sized claws. The injuries looked horrific.
"Heh heh, T-Bone, just give up. You're no match for me. If you surrender now, I'll spare your life!" Chris taunted, his body barely showing any signs of damage, completely in control of the situation.
On the rest of the island, it was the same. The Mighty Tiger Pirate Crew had the upper hand in this battle for the island.
"No way. Even if I die in battle, I will never surrender! I'll fight until my last drop of blood to capture a vile pirate like you!" T-Bone roared, his long, gaunt face showing determination.
Next to him, his transponder snail was still dialing.
"Shirayama, please answer, please!" T-Bone silently screamed in his heart.
In his mind, the only person who could save the Island was Shirayama. If he tried to call for Marine backup, it would take at least four or five hours for reinforcements to arrive. Only Shirayama could get there quickly, perhaps in half an hour.
But if Shirayama didn't pick up, the defenses of the island would be broken through.
The remaining defense force consisted of a group of lieutenants, majors, and colonels. All the other soldiers had fallen, lying dead in pools of blood, never to rise again.
"Oh God, please let Shirayama pick up the phone!" T-Bone prayed desperately in his heart.
Shirayama was the last hope for the island's survival.
Suddenly, as if responding to T-Bone's prayers, or for some other reason, the transponder snail that Shirayama had placed on the head of a Sea King suddenly began to work.
Brrrrr!
While admiring Aki's peaceful face as she slept, Shirayama suddenly heard the sound. He turned his head and saw the transponder snail's mouth opening, making the noise.
