Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 112 - House Netura's Labyrinth (4)

Chapter 112
House Netura’s Labyrinth (4)

A place where everything is pure white.

An illusory place where one can interact with Phantom Species.

Black Bear, White Saber Tiger, and the Blue Serpent.

He had entered the Special Area for Training to commune with them and master the shapeshifting skills that are essential to the Netura House.

Little did he know that he would meet the Phoenix here.

“…….”

Raising his head from his reverie, he gazed at the Phoenix.

A phoenix with wings of azure fire.

This was the third time he’d seen it in person, but never once had he truly conversed with it.

“You’ve been waiting for a long time?”

“Yes.”

The response from the phoenix made him wonder.

“Why did you wait and not simply approach me directly?”

“I called out to you several times for you to hear my voice.”

“You called?”

“Yes. Unfortunately, you couldn’t hear me because of the gap in status.”

Transcendent Species.

Literally, a transcendent being who is outside the limitations of a given species.

A being beneath the Divinity.

In comparison to the phoenix’s status, Redin’s status is not yet beyond human. Due to this difference, he was unable to hear the voice of the Phoenix when it tried to speak to him.

“Why did you want to meet with me?”

“A new contract.”

Azure flames surged from the phoenix’s body. The flames filled the white world, massive enough to encompass the whole world around it.

*Crackle!*

The flames parted and a long haired phoenix in human form stepped in front of him.

Her head and eyebrows were all of blazing azure flames, and her body was covered in flames of bright red and golden yellow, stretching out like a dress.

“I have one last piece of information before we proceed with the contract.”

“What is it?”

“If you keep the contract as it is, you can keep your current power, but if you should fail in the new contract, you will lose all your existing ones.”

He met the Phoenix’s steady gaze. He couldn’t read her expression to see what she was thinking.

Calmly, he dredged up his memories.

Skimming through the things about Bahad, there was nothing regarding a new contract. There was, however, something he’d said casually.

-The Phoenix? That creature is just crazy.

-It’s not going to abandon me as long as I want to live.

‘As long as Bahad wants to live, he won’t be abandoned.’

Redin wanted to live more than anyone in the world. If Bahad hadn’t been abandoned for that reason alone.

He was as confident as ever.

“So if I succeed in the new contract, will I gain more power?”

“Yes.”

“Then let’s make a new contract.”

“Take it.”

The phoenix held out her hand.

He grasped her hand and flames leapt to life. Not hot, but warm. The phoenix’s fire melded to his body.

“Let us forge a new contract.”

“Okay.”

“What I like about your kind is your desire for life. Most humans don’t want to die, but that simple reason is so tiresome.”

The phoenix scoffed for the first time.

“A special reason why you want to live.”

“…..”

“Show the same determination that caused the great hero Crypus to fight tenaciously to free himself from a Demonic Curse, and why the High Priest of the Demon Church was willing to escape the pursuit of the Six Kingdoms and seek revenge.”

The Transcendentals didn’t choose their contractor by conventional standards.

To them, human definitions of good and evil were irrelevant.

Above all, the Phoenix wanted a desire for life, a will to live that was as special and intense as the will of the hero and the high priest to live.

“How do I prove it?”

“Think of it. The more intense your will, the greater the fire will burn.”

“Will…….”

He was not originally a human being with a strong will to live.

The death of both his parents and the failure to exact revenge.

After facing the brutal realization of what money brings, he only continued to live because he couldn’t bring himself to die.

Then he came across the Bern Chronicle Game.

The game helped him to forget about reality, and he was reborn as a new person in a new world.

The life of a character named Redin.

He received attention and support from many people, but also envy and jealousy. Living as Redin was very enjoyable.

That was probably when he decided he had to live again.

He vowed to live it again.

*Ooooohh!!*

However, that desire to go out into the world with the game’s end of service was not fulfilled.

Instead, he ended up possessing Redin’s body.

How close he came to dying in the ship’s explosion.

What started out as a desire not to die as it was, was cemented when he met Bahad.

Killing the Demon God.

And then to return to the original world.

To face the world from which he had escaped, and to truly take revenge on the people who had killed his parents.

“I’m going to kill the Demon God and go back to the world I came from.”

*ROOOOOAARRR!!*

The phoenix smiled in satisfaction at the roaring flames.

“A man who has crossed dimensions strives to return to his original world…….”

“Did you like it?”

“I like it very much, very well. Let’s create a new contract.”

The phoenix’s body dispersed into a hazy mist and was sucked into his heart.

Enormous flames flowed into his body.

A phoenix sigil with its azure wings outstretched filled the entirety of his left chest.

[You have made a new contract with the Phoenix].

[Changes have been made to your existing skills].

[Fire of Purification (S)]

-The purifying power of the Phoenix instantly burns away all forms of negative influences affecting the target.

-Curses will not work against you.

-Does not take any Fire damage.

-Active Skills.

[Blazing Soul (EX)]

-When you are completely depleted of health in combat, the power of the phoenix in your heart is triggered.

-Fully restores the user’s health and stamina, and all abilities are tripled for 10 minutes.

-Cooldown: 1Day.

-Passive Skills.

-Phoenix Power: Allows you to rise from the dead once. Upon revival, all of your ability is boosted tenfold.

-Unquenchable Flame: After returning from the dead, Phoenix Power can be used again after 30 Days.

His jaw dropped as he read over the information in the status bar.

“Wow….”

Purification power was now instantaneous, with no delay, and curses and such were now completely ineffective.

On top of that.

The cooldown for Blazing Soul was also shortened to a mere day, and if he were to die, he would be able to use the Phoenix’s Power again after a period of 30 Days.

The changes didn’t stop there.

[Ding!]

[Shapeshifting – You have learned Phoenix].

[You can use the power of the druid to harness the powers of the phoenix].

“Crazy….”

Priest Pekiro gazed out at the lake at the far end of the labyrinth.

A bear and saber tiger crouched in front of the lake, and a serpent moving on the surface.

“Black Bear, White Saber Tiger, and Blue Serpent.”

He recognized the phantom species depicted on the Netura family tombstones.

The fact that they were gathered together there.

That meant the intruder had made it into Inscriptions beyond the lake. His gaze fell to the door beyond the lake.

The forbidden texts that would be stored within.

If he could get his hands on them, it would only be a matter of time before he became a high priest.

“……Pheew.”

He took a deep calming breath, trying to steady his racing heart.

“Priest Pekiro.”

“What’s the issue?”

“The demons have arrived.”

Pekiro smiled at the good news.

He turned and stared at the three demons approaching from the back of the labyrinth.

Those with very thick demonic energy flowing through them.

Each had been carefully created by the main headquarters, and each was strong enough to be considered near the core of a Kingdom’s power.

The kind of beings who were not normally dispatched.

That’s how important this mission was.

“Krrrr.”

“Grrr.”

As if sensing the demonic energy, Black Bear and White Saber Tiger stirred in their positions and glanced in their direction.

Pekiro grinned.

As long as they had the demons, dealing with those phantom beasts would be a breeze.

He extended both hands and tapped into his own demonic energy.

He infused them with his own demonic energy, giving him control over them, and ordered them to dispose of the Phantom Beasts.

“Kill them!”

The demons rushed forward.

In an instant, as they stomped the ground, one approached Black Bear at an incredible speed and extended his fist.

*Boom!*

The demonic energy in his fist exploded, sending the Black Bear flying. A pillar of water rose up as the heavily built Black Bear fell into the lake.

*Roooar!*

The white saber tiger next to the demon moved quickly, its large mouth opening to devour the demon in front of it. The demon seized the white saber tiger’s mouth with both hands.

Strength that couldn’t be pushed back.

Without hesitation, it turned the white saber tiger’s face around and raised its foot to kick the saber tiger’s fangs.

*Crack!*

The fangs shattered, and the white saber tiger’s face was smashed. Unable to overcome the demon’s strength, the white tiger fell into the lake.

“Make sure they’re dealt with.”

At Pekiro’s command, the demons leaped into the lake. With a loud crash, there was a moment of silence.

But not for long.

“Shhhaaaaaa!”

Pekiro could see the Blue Serpent splashing across the lake and a demon clinging to its body.

Thick nails made of demonic energy scratched at the Blue Serpent’s body.

“Shhhhh!”

The blue serpent tried to shake it off.

But the demon wouldn’t let go.

*Crash!*

The Blue Serpent fell to the ground, writhing and fell limp. Pekiro spoke up, watching the Phantom Species completely subdued by the demons.

“Prepare the cultists as well.”

“Understood.”

The acolytes moved in formation around the lake and began to create a magic circle.

A seamless maneuver to subdue the intruder.

A method to take what they possessed.

The corners of his mouth slowly rose.

“You’ll never get out of here.”

His greed for the Inscription evident, Priest Pekiro channeled his demonic energy to complete the magic circle.

Then he turned his head to gaze at the old door.

“Open the door.”

The demons leaped across the lake and stood before the entrance to the Inscriptions. Two of them put their hands through the gap and applied pressure.

A door that wouldn’t budge.

*Rumbles!*

Just then, there was a small tremor from where Inscription was being kept. The tightly closed door swung open, revealing a man through the small opening.

An intruder in the appearance of Del.

Pekiro locked eyes with the intruder and laughed in disbelief at the upturned corners of his mouth.

“You’re laughing, hahahaha.”

Is he crazy?

Or just confident.

“Grab him and bring him over.”

At his command, the demons moved. They leapt forward, reaching through the opening to grab the intruder by the collar.

*Boom!*

A powerful shockwave erupted, exploding the demon’s head right off. As the demon fell to the ground, Priest Pekiro frowned.

“Shapeshifting?”

A greenish bear skin.

The intruder clad in it reaches out to grab the other demon next to him.

*Crash!*

The demon fell to the ground, trying to escape.

The intruder leaped forward, this time covered in a white saber tiger pelt.

The intruder was in front of the other demon before it could even take a step.

Crossing his arms, the demon’s body exploded.

*Boom!*

The intruder stood in a relaxed posture and smiled. Pekiro looked at him, then shifted his gaze at the smell of something burning.

The Inscriptions were burning.

“You…. you bastard….”

Pekiro poured all of his demonic energy into the remaining demon, lifting the restraints on its body.

“Now that Inscriptions is burning, I’m going to capture you and have you rot away for the rest of your life in the research lab.”

Watching the demon run off, he tried to invoke the spell, but when it didn’t work, he cast his eyes around.

The acolytes who were supposed to be at their posts.

They lay on the ground, their throats slit by something composed of shadows.

A scene of one-sided slaughter.

A truly overwhelming difference in power.

*Boom!*

Even the demon who had broken its restraint had his head blown off, leaving Pekiro alone in the labyrinth.

‘Dangerous bastard…… If left unchecked, he will surely become an obstacle to the Order’s cause.’

Swallowing hard, Pekiro draws up his demonic energy.

A secret weapon that can be learned by becoming a priest of the Demon Church.

Body sharing.

‘I’ll drink together with you Lord Baal and go to your side.’

*Ooooohhh!!*

The intruder strolled in at a slower pace.

“Now there’s only you left.”

“kekekeke…….”

Pekiro laughed out loud at the complacent intruder.

The completion of the curse.

He could feel all his senses linking with the intruder. Pekiro brought his hand up and drove it straight through his heart.

*Squelch!*

“Pride is what brought you to your death.”

Then he ripped his heart out.

*Squelch!*

Pekiro clenched his teeth against the pain. The corners of his mouth curled up, and he surveyed the intruder who was about to die a vain death.

“……!”

A face devoid of any pain.

The intruder had an intrigued expression on his face.

“Ah, that doesn’t work because it’s considered a curse. Thanks to you, I learned something good.”
