Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 113 - Eye of the Abyss (1)

Chapter 113
Eye of the Abyss (1)

Capital of the Oberg Empire.

Obelia.

Centered on the castle, the north and south were occupied by Pierre and Hekan. East and west are still unclaimed.

-We need the west.

Fabian sighed deeply as he recalled Redin’s words.

“Huu…”

Dead bodies and pools of blood were everywhere.

They had fought without a single day’s rest to claim the Western Region.

“Good work.”

A fragrant smell wafted out along with the soft voice. Fabian stepped to the side and took Vivian’s hand.

“You worked hard, too.”

“Now you can get some rest.”

“I hope so…..”

Fabian clicked his tongue.

Janus, Kenida, and Black Rose.

The three combined formed the organization known as “Blood,” and they had listened to Redin’s suggestion and absorbed the remnants of Magnes, thus increasing their power.

The Blood rose in both size and stature.

They moved to occupy the west, but there was another group already in the region.

A group of people from all over the Six Kingdoms.

The Untouchables.

They splintered themselves into two separate groups and moved to take all of the East and West.

The western side was relatively weak.

Aware of Blood’s objectives, they took up posts in advance and set up their field magic to tip the scales in their favor.

Thanks to this, a fierce battle ensued.

As the Untouchables solidified their position in the east, they herded all the newcomers from the outside to the west.

If it weren’t for the vampire’s insane abilities.

Their resistance was so formidable that it was almost impossible to seize the west sector.

Knowing this did not comfort Fabian.

“They won’t give up easily. We need to reorganize and prepare for the next battle.”

“I’ll take care of the reorganization.”

He talked to Vivian a lot on a regular basis. She had a good idea of how to reorganize, so he knew he could trust her.

“Okay, I’ll ask you for a favor right away.”

“Sure.”

Fabian stands up and walks over to the group, and after watching them, he gets up and walks over to the bodies.

Moving towards the dead on the ground.

Selecting the ones deemed useful in battle, he used his vampiric powers.

“You will all be born anew in a blood paradise.”

The skin of the lifeless bodies turned pale, and the sound of bones snapping spread.

*Snap!* *Snap!*

*Crack!* *Crack!*

The transition out of their mortal coil.

The newly gifted individuals with the superior flesh of vampires arose from their places and approached Fabian.

Five vampires in all.

They knelt before Fabian and bowed their heads.

“We greet you, our Lord.”

“Go to the Queen and do as she tells you.”

“Understood.”

The vampires moved to where Vivian was.

That was the end of the basics.

Now it was time to use the power of blood to gain a more favorable position in the war to come.

“Hu..”

Fabian created a crown made of blood.

The blood from his eyes formed a crown on top of his head, and he reached out with both hands to where the bodies and pools of blood were.

He gathered up all the blood in the area.

A huge amount of it pooled in Fabian’s hands. He turned it all into bats. Thousands of bats, each the size of a palm, hovered around Fabian’s side.

“Go.”

The bats spread out in all directions.

With every flap of their wings, they shot out ultrasonic waves.

Fabian closed his eyes and began to visualize a map using the ultrasonic waves from the bats.

In the pitch black nothingness.

Starting with the trees and stones around him, he began to add them one by one.

Rapidly, a detailed map was created.

With the entire area west of Obelia under surveillance, Fabian began his search in earnest.

The Untouchables in hiding.

‘Heh’

“Have you all been hiding there?”

They were hiding in a cave in the western region. When he explored the interior, he found extra food and magic bombs.

Controlling a bat made of blood.

He herded dozens of bats into the cave, then used Blood Arts to detonate them all.

No audible sound was heard.

He could see the Untouchables being swept up in the blast.

‘I bought us time to reorganize with…’

As Fabian turned to head back towards his crew, he faltered and froze in place.

His head pounded with bouts of ringing in his ears.

“Ugh…”

He was still not used to using such large amounts of blood, and the side effects sometimes showed up like this.

Closing his eyes and catching his breath, he tried to compose himself.

“Huu..”

Just as he was about to open his eye again and start to move onward, something swiftly flew at him.

Unconsciously, he stretched out his hand.

Quickly snatching the flying object.

A black arrow.

The arrowhead was stamped with the emblem of the Oberg Empire. Raising his senses, he re-connected his vision to the bats.

There was nobody nearby.

The arrow had come from the direction of Obelia’s castle.

“They shot it right from the castle to where I am?”

He slowly reached for the letter on the arrow, shuddering at the realization that someone was watching this whole thing.

*Rip!*

You tear open the letter and read its contents.

-You’re invited to a social gathering to discuss the future of the Orberg Empire.

-The date is one week from now, at 8pm. It will be held at Castle Obelia.

-Until then, please keep this invitation in hand.

Fabian furrowed his brow at the last line.

This letter must have also been sent to the Untouchables.

Unless they abandoned the western sector, they would seize the opportunity to claim this invitation.

“Okay. Let’s see who wins.”

Fabian clenched his fists and commanded one of the bats to track down the trail of Redin’s blood.

‘I’ll protect the invitation no matter what, so just be on time.’

By the time he’d cleared out all the demonic cultists in the Netura ruins and blown up the entrance to the labyrinth, Redin had made sure there was no trace of his presence.

A bat sent by Fabian.

-I have received an invitation from the Oberg Empire.

The fact that Fabian had gotten an invitation.

Rodwell has started to move in earnest.

The rise of the Oberg Empire.

Unifying the four divided factions and asserting itself over the territory of the Six Kingdoms.

“The timing is perfect.”

He’ll have to talk to Fabian about the specific details, so he retrieves a teleporter scroll from his subspace pouch.

It’s too far to travel on foot from where he stands.

Calling forth his mana, he thought of the secret flower garden to the west of Obelia.

*Oooohhh!!*

*Swooosh!*

Light flashed as he tore up the scroll.

Closing his eyes, and when he opened them again, the scenery had changed.

The place where three criminal organizations had held their secret meeting.

A hidden flower garden.

Inside the crumbling building, there were old tables and rotting food.

Stepping outside, he saw the beautiful flowers.

The garden, which should have been filled with the scent of flowers, now reeked of blood.

“Hmph.”

He pulled the Watcher’s Eye out from his pocket.

[Watcher’s Eye]

-Can see up to 20 kilometers away.

-Allows the user to lock onto a specific target and watch their movements in real time.

-Can be used to detect people.

With his eyes on the telescope, he surveyed the area to gather information.

In what appeared to be a makeshift safe house.

A large group of individuals, including Fabian, were facing off against each other.

A man who appeared to be the leader of the group is standing opposite Fabian. There was a strange sense of tension among them.

If it was just this one guy, it wouldn’t be a problem.

He seemed to have gathered information that Fabian was a vampire, and carried a certain holy item with him.

That might explain why Fabian wasn’t acting rashly.

“He sure is determined.”

The intel he’d received from the bat told him there was a party this evening, and to be there at 8 p.m. with an invitation.

The moon was beginning to appear in the sky.

It was time to set off for the castle.

“If they can’t take the invitation, they won’t send him to the castle.”

Redin clicked his tongue and created a shadow alter ego.

Using Shadow Shift, he moved behind the back of the lair.

*Whooosh!*

Cradling the Watcher’s Eye in his arms, he walked over to where Fabian was.

*Thump!*

*Thud!*

The sound of his footsteps drew their attention. Making eye contact with Fabian, he nodded slightly.

Now it was time to start acting.

Fabian was the boss of the organization, and he was just a subordinate under him.

“Boss, is there something wrong?”

“I’m trying to get to the party, but these unwanted guests are blocking the way.”

“Is that so, let me sort them out.”

Shifting his gaze, he stared at the man standing in front of Fabian. He held his ground with a murderous intensity.

“If you stay there, nobody will get hurt.”

“Really?”

He kicked off the ground and dashed.

Shapeshifting, a skill he’d learned from the Netura Family. He used the white tiger’s stride to reach the man, causing him to gasp in surprise.

“Fast?”

Chuckling, he used the Black Bear’s Paw. The Mana in his body gathered into his fist, and he thrust it straight at the man.

*Booom!*

The condensed mana burst out, and a powerful shockwave swept through the area along with the man.

Dusting off his hands, he gestured towards the road.

“Boss, go to the party, I’ll clear a path.”

First he broke the chains that weaken a vampire’s power. Once Fabian’s restrictions were gone, things went smoothly.

The vampires mowed down the petty enemies, and they arrived safely in time for the party.

A reconstructed castle in the center of Obelia.

It had been restored to its former glory, as it had been during the heyday of the Oberg Empire.

“Did you bring an invitation?”

The knight guarding the gate demanded.

Fabian held up the invitation he’d been handed and showed it to the knight.

“Here it is.”

“Confirmed. No more than three people are allowed inside the castle.”

“Understood.”

The rest of the group was made to wait outside.

After warning them to be careful of any possible friction, Fabian, Vivian, and him entered the castle.

A cacophony of voices.

Castle Obelia was filled with people who had already arrived. Pierre and Hekan’s top brass, as well as members of the Untouchables.

There were others who seemed to be from the nobility of the former Oberg Empire.

As he looked at them, he whispered to them.

“Fabian, Vivian. We don’t know what’s going to happen from here. I’ll be watching from a distance, but if there’s any trouble, send a signal.”

“Alright.”

“Then go.”

Fabian and Vivian turned on their feet and headed in the direction of the core contingent.

The Untouchables looked grim.

They were probably surprised on the inside, but they couldn’t show it on the surface. With a forced smile, he watched them greet each other and moved to a seat in the corner.

An invisible fight between organizations.

After winning that, the next priority was to catch Rodwell’s eye and claim the dukedom.

“Huh? Something about that guy looks familiar…..”

Turning his gaze to the vaguely familiar voice, he saw a former trainee from Cerberus Island.

Hailing from the Kingdom of Crane.

The son of Count Hurafen.

The one who had once disrespected the prison guard while fighting with another candidate during their training. He remembered it clearly, because of the way he stood up to him.

Rondo Hurafen, who he had forcefully expelled from the training center.

Rondo’s eyes focused on Fabian.

“What the… I think I recognized you from somewhere.”
