Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 114 - Eye of the Abyss (2)

Chapter 114
Eye of the Abyss (2)

Redin was curious as to why Rondo was in this place.

But the question didn’t last long.

Most of those who tried to enter Cerberus were underdogs.

Second-rate individuals buried among the true aces.

Rondo was a similar case. As the bastard son of Count Hurafen, it was safe to say he had little to no status within the family.

In particular, when it came to the life of a bastard.

While this is one of those things that comes to mind when it comes to being ignored by the family, Rondo’s case was a little different. Count Hurafen didn’t give Rondo any support.

‘The position of heir will not be given to you’

‘However, I will arrange for you to become independent.’

A position he couldn’t have because he was not the firstborn.

Rondo wanted that position.

But he didn’t have the skills to sway public opinion. Nor did he have the talent or the character. He was outclassed in every way by his brother, who was the heir apparent.

Still, he wanted the position.

Greed, in the literal sense of the word.

That’s what it is.

He was far too greedy for his capabilities, and it often showed when he was in Cerberus.

So being here made perfect sense.

A new opportunity.

If he performed well, he might even rise above the position of Count, and Rondo’s eyes were bound to turn.

“Young master.”

A servant came to Rondo’s side with a tray of wine and fruit snacks.

Rondo lifted a glass of wine from the tray and took a sip, then snatched the grapes.

“What happened to the thing I ordered?”

“I loaded a single crate into the carriage on the Untouchables’ side, as you ordered.”

“Was that all? They didn’t say anything to you?”

” Yes. They said they’d take care of it, but their reaction was not pleasant.”

“Those bastards…”

As he listened to their conversation, he couldn’t help but grin.

Apparently, he’s trying to make some sort of connection with the Untouchables and earn a spot .

It won’t be as easy as he thinks.

As the Untouchables grew in numbers, there was so much to divide.

“Should I fetch some more money?”

“How much do we have left?”

“I can bring two more crates.”

“Why don’t you hand over one more and tell them I’ll look forward to working with them.”

“Okay.”

Rondo popped the grape in his hand into his mouth and shifted his attention.

The table where the major figures were gathered.

He stared at the direction Fabian was sitting and furrowed his brow.

“It’s like I can’t help but remember something. He looks so… so familiar. Tsk.”

*Munch!* *Munch!*

Rondo chewing on some grapes.

His gaze never left Fabian.

Just as Redin was considering disposing of the potential bomb quietly, he suddenly thought of a great plan.

He would use the bomb to his advantage.

Rondo is eager to use this new opportunity to gain power. Once he learned Fabian’s true identity, he’d never stand by idly.

He would use this information to make a grab for power.

Since Rondo is greedy, it’s almost certain that he’ll snitch the information back to the Untouchables, who will then go straight to the Emperor.

Then Rodwell, who controls the Emperor, will use the Abyssal Eye to find out the truth.

“Then it’s game over.”

After passing through the Eye of the Abyss, Fabian will be able to earn Rodwell’s trust instantly.

“…Great.”

To execute his scheme.

Using the [Mask of the Dead] to disguise himself as someone else, he slowly walked over to where Rondo was.

Taking a seat nearby, he sighed and muttered to himself, making sure Rondo heard him.

“Isn’t that…. Prince Fabian of the Kingdom of… Ravino?”

The bastard son of Count Hurafen.

Rondo didn’t like the label. While Count Hurafen might simply ignored him, those underneath him did not.

The people unseen.

People whispering behind his back.

These people who were polite towards his brother, the heir, but strangely dismissive towards him, the bastard.

There was only one reason.

Because he was a bastard.

Ever since he realized this, he hated the label, and the reality of having to live with it for the rest of his life seemed like hell.

So he wanted the position of heir apparent.

If he became the heir, the label of bastard would disappear, and he would be able to receive the envious eyes of others.

‘Go to Cerberus.’

The only opportunity given to him by Count Hurafen.

He tried to take advantage of it, to seize the title as the heir, only to lose it because of a strange prison guard.

Redin.

If it weren’t for that damn guy, he’d be making a name for himself in Cerberus and usurping the heir’s place by now.

‘Drop to your knees…. Get down, bastard…. What? If you have a problem with that, get lost.’

Just thinking about it still makes him furious.

“Isn’t that…. Prince Fabian of the Kingdom of… Ravino?”

Rondo frowned as he heard the words next to him. He chewed the grape in his mouth, trying to jog his memory.

Fabian of the Kingdom of Ravino.

He remembered being with him back in Cerberus. The one who had been beaten to a pulp by Redin. He studied the man at the table again, noting his features.

A pale face.

An air of detachment.

An unnatural poise.

These things masked his original profile, but it was clearly the Fabian from his memory.

‘Huh?’

He was confused.

Rondo focused on the man at the table again, as if remembering the announcement of Fabian’s death that he had heard months ago.

*Snap!*

Something clicked in his head.

‘Could it be that he faked his death in order to infiltrate the Oberg Empire?’

The corner of Rondo’s mouth curved upward.

“Wait a second….”

If he told the Untouchables about this, he was guaranteed an instant stamp of recognition.

It would not end there.

It was a huge opportunity to become a national hero for catching a spy, and maybe even catch the Emperor’s eye.

“I suppose not.”

The man next to him seemed to lose interest and left the table.

Rondo gulped.

Straightening his attire and beginning to walk to the table where the head of the Untouchables was seated, he stopped.

“No?”

There was no sense in giving the Untouchables the intel. From what he had seen of them thus far, there was a good chance they would just eat it up.

He wasn’t about to squander such a great opportunity.

‘I’ll have to tell it directly.’

Only then would he be able to take all the credit for exposing the spy. Rondo drained the last of his drink and calmly waited.

It wasn’t long before the party erupted into activity.

The sound of bands playing at the entrance and a huge procession. The emperor made his entrance, flying the banner of the Orberg Empire.

A carriage without a roof.

From there, the Emperor waved his hand.

‘Now is my chance.’

Rondo sped toward where the carriage stopped, and the nearby knights drew their swords.

*Skkkrrr!*

Dozens of swords pointed at Rondo’s neck and at his heart.

With both hands raised, showing no intention of fighting, Rondo looked at the emperor and shouted.

“Your Majesty, I have something to tell you!”

“What are you doing, bring him out!”

“It’s something you need to know!”

The knights who had pointed their swords at him grabbed his arms. Rondo batted them off and ran to the front of the carriage and dropped to his knees.

His only chance.

‘I must not miss this opportunity!’

With his head on the ground, he cried out.

“There is a spy in the Empire!”

Rondo’s words brought the party to a frenzy. The emperor atop the carriage snapped his fingers.

Inside the carriage was a masked man.

He stepped down from the carriage and made his way over to Rondo.

“Raise your head.”

Rondo raised his head and looked at the masked man. Shuddering at the hollow emptiness in his eyes.

“Is it true that there is a spy?”

“Yes. There is.”

“How can I believe that?”

Rondo clears his throat, his eyes narrowing before finally answering.

“I am the bastard son of Count Hurafen of the Kingdom of Crane. I swear on my family name that I speak only the truth.”

“House Hurafen…. Good. Tell me about the spy.”

“I had a brief stint with Cerberus, a special group that was created in Burning Hell. One of the people I saw there is here.”

“Burning Hell?”

“Yes.”

Rondo raised a finger and pointed to where he knew Fabian was.

“Prince Fabian of the Kingdom of Ravino, who everyone thought was dead. He is the head of the Bloods.”

All attention shifted to Fabian.

Rondo looked at Fabian, the corners of his mouth twitching upward, but Fabian, who should have been panicking, sat too calmly in his seat.

“Is this true?”

The masked man asked, and Fabian rose from his seat and walked to stand beside Rondo.

Once there, Fabian opened his mouth.

“He’s right, except for the part about being a spy.”

“You’re not a spy?”

“That’s right.”

“Then do you have a convincing explanation for why you came in here after faking your death?”

Fabian nodded.

“Redin. And to take revenge on the kingdom of Ravino.”

“Revenge?”

“Redin humiliated me in front of many people, and my brother in the Kingdom of Ravino stole the woman I loved.”

The Masked Man laughed slightly.

“Can you take responsibility for those words?”

“Yes.”

“Come here.”

Fabian stepped forward at the masked man’s prompting. Rondo looked up at Fabian from below.

For the briefest of moments.

He saw Fabian’s pupils disappear and then return. It was clear that the Masked Man had confirmed something.

‘Soon, your lies will be exposed.’

Rondo laughed to himself and balled his fists.

There was no way such a childish and obvious lie would ever work. The moment the lie was exposed, he would be a national hero for catching a spy.

He mulled over what kind of reward he could ask for.

“Kehehehe.”

The masked man chuckled.

“Your desire for revenge is evident, and I hope to see you doing a lot of work for the Empire in the future.”

“I will do my best.”

The masked man’s words cut off Rondo’s musings.

‘His not a spy?’

He sprang to his feet.

“That can’t be possible!”

Rondo stood up and looked at the masked man, but the man shot him a piercing glare.

“Your mouth and heart are so light and filthy, drag this wretch out, cut off his head, and hang it on the gate as an example.”

“Huh? That’s…”

“I know people like you all too well. A man blinded by greed and driven by treachery. Take him away now. Don’t let those who would betray the Oberg Empire ever think of doing so.”

After Rondo was dragged off.

The celebration was back to normal.

The Emperor, Himus, who is more of Rodwell’s puppet, issued a proclamation that was scripted.

Pierre, Hekan, Untouchable, and the Bloods.

To the leaders of these organizations, I have given the title of Duke and assigned them territories.

Fabian got the west, just as Redin wanted.

“From now on, internal wars are forbidden.”

An end to the internal wars.

With that, he announced a new goal.

“From now on, we will work as one to restore the glory of the Oberg Empire. As a start, I will create the Imperial Knights to serve the cause.”

“…..”

“Knight Commander.”

The Emperor stepped away.

The masked man took his place.

Rodwell.

The center of this whole thing.

He regarded him carefully.

“If the Empire is to be united, we need a unified organization. Applications to the Order will be free, but the selection process will be very strict.”

The pureblood line of the Empire.

Many people who saw an opportunity would apply, but it was also a great opportunity for those watching the Oberg Empire from the outside.

Rodwell would be aware of this.

“It won’t be easy, but…”

The moment he was inducted into the Imperial Knights.

It would be the closest he’d ever get to the core of the Orberg Empire, and the closest he’d ever get to Rodwell.

So close he could stab him in the back.

“Just wait a bit.”

‘Heh.’
