Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 123 - First mission (1)

Chapter 123
First mission (1)

As if he’d lost interest.

Rodwell took the sword and went to the side.

“Pull it out.”

As the knight next to him struggled to pull the sword out, he read Rodwell’s status window.

[Rodwell]

Strength: A

Agility: A

Stamina: A

Mana: S

Luck: A

Talent: S

-Possessed Skills: Eye of the Abyss (S), Demonic Seed (A), Underworld Paradise (A), Dark Swordsmanship (S), Dragon’s Blood (S), Unholy Priest (S), Unrelenting (A)….

His stats are overall high and he has S-class swordsmanship. Rodwell’s skill level was at the level of Life and Death.

In addition to that, he possessed a deadly skill.

Demonic Seed.

A conglomeration of demonic energy that is different from curses.

When the seed hatches, the bearer will acquire near demon-like prowess.

Underworld Paradise and Unholy Priests.

This suggests Rodwell’s ties to the Demon Church, and the most important thing to look out for is Dragon Blood.

Having Dragon Blood coursing through his body.

This meant that his physical and magical defense was immense. No ordinary aura blade would be enough to cut Rodwell.

*Sigh!*

He doesn’t know how he acquired dragon blood, but to kill Rodwell, he would either need to be in a state of mastery or have dragon strength like him.

The former is difficult to achieve in the moment.

The latter could be obtained with the Copy skill.

A skill he was already trying to secure through this mission.

With that, it would be possible to take on Rodwell.

“…..”

The problem is the Demonic Seed.

The seed which is currently rank A will become rank S in a month, and then it will bloom. Rodwell will go from being a monster to something even more monstrous.

It was imperative to bring forward the plan, which had been loosely outlined.

“You can keep this.”

At the sound of Rodwell’s voice, he raised his head.

Rodwell held out the sword in his hand toward him.

“Yes? This…..”

“It appears that you are the only one among this assembly who is capable of succeeding me as Knight Commander, so you may keep it for now.”

“I’ll do my best.”

“It better be damn good.”

“Yes.”

As he took the sword from Rodwell, he observed his demeanor, but his suspicion had already been dispelled by the Eye of the Abyss.

The reason the sword was given to him was because he was the most skilled of the bunch.

“This concludes the knighting ceremony. Knights, please remain in your stations for a moment.”

There was a resounding cheer.

The nobles inside filed out, leaving only the Emperor, Rodwell, and the Imperial Knights inside the Throne Room.

Rodwell went to the back of the Emperor’s throne and pulled out something.

A black pouch.

He tossed it toward Redin, and he quickly raised his hand to grab the black pouch.

“One for each of you.”

Opening the black pouch, he found several cases containing round pills. Taking one, he handed it to the knights.

After each person had one.

Rodwell explained the pill.

“These are special pills made with the alchemy of the ancient empire. If you eat it, it will give you a burst of power.”

That’s what he said.

The item details displayed in the window told a different story.

[Demon Pill].

-A pill made by condensing demonic energy, it amplifies one’s power by utilizing demonic energy when taken.

-However, if taken frequently, there is a high chance that the user will be unable to handle the demonic energy and become a demon.

“The first mission will begin in a week, so you have until then to acclimate yourself to the special powers of the pill.”

“Salute!”

“Go.”

They saluted the Emperor and left the Throne Room. He gathered his thoughts as he left the castle with the other knights.

The first kingdom Rodwell would target was decided.

The Adrian Kingdom.

The groundwork had already been made, and it would only be a matter of time before the world learned of the Knight King’s death.

Thwart Rodwell’s plans.

Put Rebecca on the throne.

And then.

Strike Rodwell’s neck.

“It’s…. worth a try.”

A night of darkness.

Moving through the woods, Daylon noticed something and channeled mana into the earring in his ear.

“Stand by.”

Cerberus, moving behind him, halted in place. Daylon moved forward silently, using his ghost walk.

*Flash!*

A light flashed past the top of his head.

He ducked quickly, gulping, and waited for the light to fade.

When it moved to the other side.

Standing upright again, he moved slowly until he was right on the edge of the cliff.

‘Is that it?’

Taking out a telescope, he held it to his eye.

An old building beyond the cliff.

Although there was nothing out of the ordinary on the outside, he spotted something unusual on the people milling around.

Inverted cross necklaces.

People patrolling with lanterns, clutching the necklace in their left hands, muttering to themselves.

“Kyyaaaaaa…….”

A scream broke out, scarily fading away.

Moments later.

The old door swung open and a small girl ran out. Those patrolling the perimeter ran to catch her.

A man appeared through the open door.

A middle-aged man dressed in the robes of a Demon Church priest, smiling with blood on his hands.

“Mmmph!”

The patrolman who had clamped the girl’s mouth shut moved. The child was dragged toward where the priest of the demonic church was.

Daylon opened his mouth as he looked at them.

“Team 1 moves with me. Group two, wait on the outskirts and hunt down any possible runners.”

-Yes, sir.

-Roger.

With that reply coming from his earpiece, Daylon stirred, springing to his feet and leaping off the edge of the cliff.

He grabbed the rope launcher from his waistband and fired it at the other side of the cliff.

*Ziiiiip!*

The arrowhead on the rope lodged in the cliff, anchoring it. After securing the launcher to his waist, he grabbed the rope and climbed up the cliff.

Cerberus 1 came right after him.

Daylon climbed up the cliff, watching as several rope launchers were fired.

A patrolman was coming their way at that moment.

With a leap forward, Daylon covered the man’s mouth, whipped out his dagger, and plunged it into the heart.

“Arrgh!”

Laying the limp corpse on the ground, he ran towards the building with Cerberus 1, who had climbed the cliff.

The team cleared the remaining patrolmen from the vicinity, and Daylon stood in front of the decrepit building.

He peeked through a small window and looked inside.

There he saw a girl tied up with a rope and a priest holding a bloodstained dagger in his hand.

Muttering something that sounded like a prayer.

Daylon retrieved a vial of holy water and threw it inside the window.

*Crash!*

As the holy water poured out, the demonic energy inside was neutralized. The priest, who was reciting a prayer, yelled out in anger.

“Who the hell!”

Daylon kicked down the door, drew his sword, and barged inside. He charged straight at the priest, slashing at him.

The priest threw the dagger he was holding at him.

Deiron deflected the dagger’s trajectory. He slashed the ropes binding the girl.

Lifting her up, he carried her outside.

“Yulin.”

“Yes.”

“Take the child.”

“Understood.”

He entrusted the child to one of his members and turned to face the priest.

A thick demonic energy surged out.

*Rumble!*

The building collapsed, revealing the priest, demonic energy bubbling out of him.

“Right as planned.”

Daylon pulled out a vial of holy water and poured it over his head. With the holy water flowing through his body, he launched himself forward and swung his sword at the priest.

*Swish!*

*Clang!*

*Clang!*

Together with his team, they attacked the priest, wearing him down.

“You pieces of shit!”

The enraged priest raised his demonic energy.

Realizing that he was about to unleash a special skill used by Demon Church priests, he pulled out the handcuffs on his waist.

Before the priests could activate the skill.

There is a brief moment of immobilization. Daylon capitalized on that moment and handcuffed the priest’s wrists.

Handcuffs specially made by Burning Hell to capture cultists.

*Click!*

The instant the handcuffs were placed on the priest.

The demonic energy flowing from his body dissipated.

“Is this the will of the Demon God?, then I shall accept it.”

The priest spoke in a calm tone.

The number of priests caught so far has exceeded five. And every time they were captured, their reactions were the same.

They complied with their capture and followed them to Burning Hell. Every time he saw such priests, he felt uneasy.

“Phew…… Tsk”

Daylon clicked his tongue and moved his body.

“Vice Captain, the guest you were talking about has arrived.”

At Fabian’s statement, he opened his eyes.

“Okay, where are they?”

“They just got off in the village where the tunnel is.”

“Okay.”

He got up from the armchair and started stretching.

“Ugh!”

Recently, he’d spent the last few days exploring the Shadow Lord’s powers and pondering how to move on to the Boundary of Life and Death.

Thanks to this, he was able to cut down the time he had to dream by a day or two.

He used the shadow alter ego he’d sent ahead of time and used the Shadow Shift.

*Shuaaaaaa!*

When he opened his closed eyes, in front of him was a village.

A small village.

A group of what appeared to be villagers were gathered together on one side, and next to them were tents and shacks.

Several wagons parked next to it.

A familiar face was among those unloading the wagons full of cargo.

“Heather!”

He waved, and Heather turned his head. Looking at him, he tilted his head and frowned.

“Who are you?”

“Oh…”

He had transformed.

Slowly, he walked over to Heather and whispered quietly.

“Redin.”

“Redin?”

“Yes.”

As he whipped out one of the items Heather had made for him once before and showed it to him, the suspicion in Heather’s eyes vanished, and was replaced with delight.

Looking at Heather’s gaping mouth, he held up a finger.

“Shhh.”

“Shhh?”

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had a chance to talk, but we’re running out of time. We can reminisce later, but for now, let’s get moving.”

“Okay.”

He took Heather to the mountains behind the village. A tunnel entrance that looked like a mine entrance.

Vampires were guarding the entrance.

“Let’s go in.”

Waving to the vampires who casually moved out of the way, he stepped into the tunnel and walked alongside Heather.

“Where are we?”

“A tunnel to the Kingdom of Ravino.”

“Ravino?”

“They’re planning to start a war with the Oberg Empire. If we continue straight ahead like this, we can secretly travel to the Ravino Kingdom.”

“Then are we going to the Ravino Kingdom?”

“No.”

And not long after, there was a fork in the road.

Three different trails.

He turned on the right.

“Follow me. I’ll explain when we get there.”

As they walked, a cool breeze flowed through the air. Soon, they came to a passage that led outside. Exiting the tunnel, they descended down the mountain.

Eventually, they came to a small cave entrance.

He led Heather into the cave. Inside was a huge door, with various symbols drawn on it.

In the center was the Oberg symbol.

“In here.”

Heather seemed to be able to read the writings on the wall, and read a few words.

“Imperial Laboratory?”

“Yes.”

He fished a key out of his subspace pouch.

The key he’d gotten in the dungeon while pursuing Terry the Poison Toad.

*Oooohh!*

Imbuing the key with mana, he inserted it into the groove in the stone door. The mana radiated out in all directions, glowing blue.

Light filled the door.

*Ruummbleeess!!*

*Rumble!*

The ground shook slightly, and the door cracked open, revealing the interior of the Imperial Laboratory.
