Chapter 124 - First mission (2)
Chapter 124
First mission (2)
Inside the wide-open door was another door. A door made of magic stones with intricate patterns and symbols.
In order to access the Imperial laboratory, this second door had to be unlocked.
*Sigh!*
Before Heather came.
He had been to this place previously.
He had brought with him one of the most skilled mages Marek had managed to find to try to open the door first.
And still had not found a solution.
“Heather.”
“Huh?”
“Do you think you can solve this?”
“Hold on….”
Heather pulls a writing pad out of his backpack and sat down in front of the door.
Staring at the door with a serious expression on his face.
Heather began to scribble something down, deciphering it as he went.
A magic genius was something entirely different.
Heather seemed to have figured something out and stood up, moving toward the door. Judging by the mana, he must have activated the circle.
*Oooh!*
Four symbols scrawled on the door.
North, South, East, and West.
The symbols on the northern one moved. Like putting together a puzzle, the stones shifted back and forth, forming a water droplet.
“And…..”
Heather sat back down, scribbled something down, then stood up and put his hand on the door again.
*Clink!* *Clink!*
And this time, the symbol on the right moved and made the shape of a fire.
What came after was a breeze.
Wind to the south, and Earth to the west. The symbols of the four elements settled in the North, South, East, and West.
*Rumble!*
The magic stone door reacted to Heather’s mana and split in half with a violent vibration. Like a sliding door, the magic door slid into the wall.
“That’s awesome.”
Admiration flowed out of him.
The mage he brought in at the beginning was a renowned genius in the Magic Tower, and Heather solved in a matter of minutes what he couldn’t.
Even though he was a late bloomer.
If he had known how to use his talent properly at a younger age, he could have been much greater.
‘Heh’
If he had, he wouldn’t be here.
“The best?”
Redin lifted a thumb toward Heather, who scratched at his head and picked up his backpack.
“It’s actually pretty simple to open, I’m sure someone else could have done it in no time.”
“No. This is something you’re really good at.”
Heather shook his head, peering inside the dimly lit chamber.
“I know this is a laboratory from the Empire’s time, but what were they working on here?”
“Supermagic bombs.”
“A supermagic bomb? It sounds like something big.”
“It is. Enough to blow up an entire kingdom.”
“Really?”
“It’s better for you to see for the details. Let’s go inside, I’ll lead the way.”
‘There’s no telling what might be inside.’
He pulled a decent sword from his subspace pouch and held it in his hand, and Heather, behind him, cast a spell.
“Big Light.”
The mana pulsed, bouncing out of Heather’s hand and heading inside the door.
*Flash!*
A fist-sized ball of light illuminated the interior of the room. There wasn’t a laboratory right in front of them, but he could see a path leading inwards.
“Let’s go.”
He took the first step.
Pulling his senses up, he followed Heather’s light inside. He didn’t know how far he’d traveled, but he felt an unusual energy.
The world turned red as the Eye of Arrakis triggered.
Signaling danger.
*Rumble!* *Rumble!*
The ceiling shook violently and stone dust fell. His vision turned blurry. He swung his sword, sending the powder flying.
At that moment.
He felt something that made his whole body prickle. Using the Fairy Wings, he moved his body backwards.
*Boom!*
A blunt fist swept past where he had been. Straining into concentration, he recognized the identity of the creature that had swung the fist.
A golem with a body made of stone.
A gatekeeper crafted of the mages of an ancient empire.
It was covered in magic circles all over its body.
“Heather, can you make out what those magic circles are?”
“Amazing… What’s immediately visible are spells that eliminate sound and presence, enhancement, explosion, amplification. There are so many others that I can’t tell what’s what.”
“Imperial mage bastards…….”
They’ve created a monster.
He sprinted forward and formed an Aura Blade. He slashed at the golem’s head with a fierce slash.
*CLANG!*
The protective shield created by the golem’s body blocked the aura blade, and a fist flew out.
A magic circle appeared on the fist.
Blue light flashed and lightning spread. The golem quickly extended its lightning-filled fist toward him.
*Crackle!*
He moved underneath the golem with his shadow alter ego. Placing his palms on the ground, he used the power of shadow.
Shadow Bind.
He tried to subdue the golem, but the moment the shadow touched its body, it dissipated and disappeared.
“……What a bastard.”
He scanned the golem’s entire body with his eyes, but he couldn’t see the golem’s core, its weakness.
Usually it’s the stomach or heart.
“Hmph…….”
There are items that can incapacitate a golem, but he didn’t have any on him right now.
Should he leave for a moment and come back?
Or should he use all his power?
Just as he’s deciding between the two.
He heard Heather’s urgent cry.
“Redin, can you hold him off for a while? I think I’ve found a way to make him docile.”
“How long?”
“Five minutes.”
“Okay.”
Using Shadow Lord Mode.
Shadows rose from the ground and covered his entire body, creating an armor. At the same time, the power of the shadows filled his body.
Just like when he summoned the dragon before.
It formed a shadow similar to the golem’s. A minion made of shadow caught the golem’s outstretched fist.
“Just stay put.”
Does it intend to listen to him?
A magic circle flashed around the golem’s body, invoking magic.
The minion was beginning to be pushed back.
Linking his mind to the minion, he moved it himself. Releasing the grip it had on it, the golem opened its fist.
*Boom!*
He dodged the golem’s punch and used the Black Bear’s paw to strike at the golem.
*BAAAM!!*
*Ziiiiiing!*
The fist was blocked by the shield.
He didn’t think it would work in the first place.
Watching the golem falter for a moment, he backed away, then charged again, trying to distract it.
“Heather, how far are we?”
“Almost there! Transform.”
Mana pulsed in Heather’s heart.
The circle spun and a blue light stretched out, directed at the golem.
*Ooooh!!*
Heather’s mana covered the magic circles etched into the golem’s body, altering the patterns on the circles.
The golem slumped down.
Disabling the gatekeeper, Heather walked over to the golem, his eyes sparkling as he touched it.
“This is awesome…… If I study it well, I think I can apply it to the Cerberus uniform. Do you mind if I study it?”
“Sure.”
“Aaah.”
“Well, let’s go further in.”
“Okay.”
Heather took control of the golem.
He sent it to the front, and followed the path. Soon, a huge space appeared.
A tower stood in the center of it.
Surrounding the tower, along the outer walls, were dusty tables and all sorts of magical tools.
“Wow.”
“Wait.”
He stopped Heather from moving forward.
The Eyes of Arrakis were darker than when he’d met the golem.
Scanning the area around them.
The side where the tower stood was red.
“There’s something.”
“Shall I send the golem?”
The golem moved and headed towards the tower, and a bright light emanated from it, drawing dozens of magic circles.
Heather swallowed hard as he looked at it.
“It’s an explosion enchantment. I guess they were trying to blow up the place itself if someone came in.”
“Do you think you can disarm that one?”
“It’s going to take a while. The magic circle is different from what I know, and I don’t know where to start.”
“You think you can do it?”
“Maybe.”
Even as he answered, Heather’s gaze was focused on the magic circle on the tower.
The tenacity of a genius.
Part of him wanted to leave things as they are, but he needed to be sure, so he put a hand on his shoulder.
*Pat*
“If you think you’re going to have trouble on your own, do you want me to send some other mages?”
“I think I’ll be fine on my own.”
“Okay. Do you need anything else?”
“Um…… no?”
“A place to sleep or something to eat.”
Heather laughed and rummaged around in his backpack, pulling out something.
A wide cloth.
He snapped his fingers and the fabric moved on its own, forming the shape of a tent.
Next, he pulled out a thin frame, which he molded to the shape of the tent, and used magic to secure it.
A magical backpack that kept on giving.
There was a sleeping bag for sleeping, tools for cooking, and even a subspace pouch for food.
“Did you bring all of this with you?”
“Just in case. Can I start researching then?”
“Uh.”
His eyes filled with wonder.
Heather moved with an excited expression.
He considered watching a little longer.
However, a red bat sent by Fabian, landed beside him.
An emergency call.
It seems that the first mission as a member of the Imperial Knights is about to begin. The Imperial lab was within Heather’s reach, so he gave a cursory wave and headed out.

Upon returning to the mansion via his shadow alter ego, Fabian hands him a letter from the Emperor.
“This is an order to assemble at the castle immediately.”
“Alright.”
He changed into the uniform he’d left behind, and strapped his new, disguised Cairo to his belt.
Leaving the mansion, he boarded a carriage and headed for Castle Obelia.
*Clip-Clop!*
*Clip-Clop!*
As the carriage sped away, thoughts of the mission ahead raced through his mind, but he had no idea what Rodwell had been up to.
What he did know was.
First and foremost, he would be heavily involved in the decision of the succession to the kingdom of Adrian.
However, it is too early for that.
“Hmmm….”
After thinking about it for a while, he dismissed the idea. He’ll find out when he gets to the castle anyway.
As he pondered how to make Rebecca King, the castle came into view through the window.
“We’re here.”
“Well done.”
He got out of the carriage and entered the castle.
The soldiers bowed their heads at the sight of him in uniform, giving him a quick salute before heading to the knights’ chambers inside the castle.
*Creak!*
Members of the Imperial Knights had arrived at the knights’ chamber. One of them rose from his seat and approached him.
“Sir.”
“Why?”
“They told us to come up as soon as you arrived.”
“Who.”
“The Lord Chancellor.”
“Well, then, let’s go.”
Leading the knights to Rodwell’s office, as he knocked on the firmly closed door, a voice called for them to enter.
The knight beside him opened the door.
Rodwell, who had his back to them, turned and looked in his direction.
“You’re here.”
“Sorry I’m late, sir.”
“No, you’re just in time.”
Walking over to Rodwell’s desk, he opened his legs and placed his hands together behind his back. Rodwell then handed him the documents on his desk.
A total of five.
He read the contents of the orders.
-Provocation operation directive.
-Provoke the monster “Sinister” to the north of the Kingdom of Resha to lure it into attacking the Resha Kingdom.
The other four orders were for the Kingdom of Crane, the Kingdom of Ravino, the Kingdom of Adrian, and the Kingdom of Carvin, respectively.
“Divide the number of men accordingly.”
