Chapter 157 - Burning Hell's Dungeons (2)
Chapter 157
Burning Hell’s Dungeons (2)
The absence of the portal that should be here means that someone in the underground second floor has severed the path leading to Infinite Hell.
That someone is probably a Demon Cultist.
“….I need to investigate this one first.”
The prison guard manning the door had a strange expression as Redin emerged from the Underworld and returned to the entrance on the first floor.
“You’re out already?”
“Do you happen to know who the last people to enter?”
“If we check the access logs, we’ll probably find out.”
“Okay, I want to see it.”
“If you want to check that, you’ll need permission from someone higher than the security chief…”
Pushing the special identification badge out, the guard unfolded the entry log beside him. He flipped to the back pages to see if it was recorded by date.
A blank page.
It seemed like no one had entered the Underworld these past few days. Only after turning a reasonable amount of pages did the guard’s hand stop.
“The prison guards sent to investigate a week ago were the last.”
“How many?”
“Seven men from the Special Task Force Division 1, including the Captain of the 1st Division.”
Redin knew the captain of Special Unit 1. A person who is more serious about catching criminals than anyone else.
If this was the case, it was very likely that the Demon Church had made their first move because of the people who went to investigate, rather than because the people who went to investigate betrayed them and cut off the path.
“But may I ask why you’re inquiring about this? I need to record the information for the confirmation report…”
“The way down to the second underground level is severed.”
“Yes?”
Redin addressed the flustered security guard.
“If anyone tries to get in here, block them.”
“But… My shift time…..”
Leaving the guard behind, he started running.
He went up to the ground floor and headed for the warden’s office.
The secretary in front of the desk saw his face and motioned for Redin to wait a moment.
She poked her head into the warden’s office, said a few words, and then motioned for him to enter.
*Knock* *Knock*
Knocking on the door and hearing Rukel invite him in, he stepped inside.
“What’s the matter?”
“I’m here to report something immediately. The way down to the 2nd underground level has been cut off.”
“……Hmm. What exactly happened there?”
“It appears that the Demon Church has likely cut off the path to the underground levels.”
“Weren’t there people dispatched?”
“They have not returned back after they went below.”
Rukel stared at him.
“So what do you propose to do about it?”
“I intend to restore the underground 2nd level. However, we will need additional personnel to prepare for any further blockages afterward.”
“I’ll put in a call to Security.”
“And while I’m on the way to the second floor and the demonic gate…… casualties may occur.”
“You have my permission.”
“Thank you.”
As Redin bowed and turned to leave, Rukel gave him a curious look.
“By the way, how do you plan to get to the underground 2nd level, considering that the way to it seemed to be barred?”
“I plan to use the secret passage that the Demon Church has created.”
“A secret passage?”
“There were many more important matters yesterday, so I couldn’t mention it.”
“…A secret.”
“It seems to have been created when reconstructing Burning Hell, most likely.”
“Are you saying that the attempted jailbreak involving Magnes was part of their plan?”¹
“Yes.”
“…I understand. You should go.”
He bids his farewell and walks out the office, just in time to see Seria running toward him outside the window.
Redin made his way to join her.
With her slightly flushed face and ragged breathing. It was evident that she was excited about the idea of going underground.
“Calm down a little.”
“I can’t calm down.”
It had been a long time since she had been separated from Henry Baskervan who was in the underground prison, and this was her chance to reunite with her father, whom she had missed so much.
It was understandable that she couldn’t settle down.
“Come with me. There are some things we need to pack.”
“Okay.”

Standing atop the clock tower at one o’clock, which the Adrian Kingdom was in charge of he peered down.²
White foam and violent waves rolled in.
The secret passage he had learned from the memories of the Apostle was down here.
“There’s a secret passage down here?”
Seria prodded him.
“Yeah. Get ready.”
He placed the underwater breathing apparatus he’d gotten from the Burning Hell warehouse in his mouth. With it, he could last a considerable amount of time underwater.
Though he could hold his breath for a long time without it.
The exact location of the secret passage wasn’t known, and they would have to descend quite a bit to get to the second level.
“Let’s go.”
He leaped towards the sea.
*Splash!*
Once underwater, Redin shielded his eyes using mana and pulled out a flashlight from his belt.
It was a specially modified flashlight that allowed him to see his surroundings underwater.
With a delayed splash, he confirmed that Seria had entered the depths, then used the flashlight to give her a signal.
‘Towards the wall.’
They had reached the bottom of the first level of the underground dungeon. Slowing his breathing, he resumed moving.
He searched through the base of the cylindrical pillar on the floor, trying to find the center.
There, he set up another specialized flashlight. An item that emits a beam of compressed light in the shape of a nail, allowing one to see deep into the depths.
This is necessary to find the way to the second underground level.
-The Infernal Hell is the path that connects the first basement level to the underground 2nd area.
-Why is there an Infernal Hell when one can just go down a staircase? That’s because the underground first floor and the underground second floor are separated.
This is the line that describes Burning Hell in the game. Redin was able to understand the structure of Burning Hell in more detail by reading it.
-The first level, consisting of the first floor above ground and the first basement floor, is in the form of an island, making it observable even from the surface.
-The second level, which contains the rest of the underground prisons, is built into the deepest part of the structure, far below where it would normally be impossible to locate.
Burning Hell is composed of two buildings, and the Infernal Hell acts as a teleporter between the two.
Therefore, in order to get to the second level, they must descend into the very depths of the ocean.
‘Attach the rope.’
Seria used the rope and ring on her waist to hook onto the belt around Redin’s waist.
Upon seeing her drawing a circle with her hand, he sent another signal in response.
‘If the rope breaks, you can follow this light down to the bottom.’
After confirming once again with a signal something they had discussed before coming here, Redin activated the power of the shadows.
Using Lord Mode, he created a shadow resembling the god of the sea.
‘Hold on tight.’
He climbed on top of it and used the shadows to secure his feet. When he saw that Seria also secured her feet, he mobilized the shadow.
*Whoosh!*
A shadow in the form of a dragon moved toward the depths of the ocean. It moved so fast that it was impossible to have a clear view. All he could see was the red glow in his palm.
Wondering how far they’d dived.
He began to feel the presence of life around him. It was clear that there were guardians³ present to prevent intruders from entering the second level.
The depths made it difficult to discern anything.
Calling upon the power of the shadows, he created creatures to fight the guardians and spread his shadow alter egos in all directions.
The shadows moving about in search of life provided him with a rough idea of where the guardians were.
*Sploosh!*
Picking up the pace a bit more, he cut through the water. The appearance of the guardians meant they were getting closer to the second level.
*Pat* *Pat*
From behind, Seria patted him on the back.
He didn’t have to turn around to know the reason for the tap.
A massive pillar loomed up ahead.
They reached what seemed to be the entrance to the underground 2nd level. He dispelled the shadow in the form of the god of the sea and approached the pillar.
There would be a secret passageway somewhere in here, created by the Demon Church.
Unclasping the rings around their waists, they turned in opposite directions for a thorough search.
‘Okay.’
Seeing Seria turn to the left, and he moved to the other side. It wasn’t long before he caught sight of what appeared to be a hidden passage.
A large magic circle etched on the wall.
It was a magic circle created by the Demon Church, so it couldn’t be activated with normal mana, but Seria and him had the power to control the shadows.
He waited for Seria to come around, and they both touched the magic circle.
*Ooooh!*
Using the power of the shadows, he activated the circle and entered the second floor of the dungeons.
With a sensation of being sucked into something, the buoyancy disappeared. All his senses returned to normal along with the feeling of gravity throughout his body.
He took off the underwater breathing apparatus and drew in a deep breath.
“Redin, up ahead.”
Lifting his head, he saw a group of men who appeared to be stationed guarding the dungeons.
Judging by their attire, they were not prison guards.
Rather, they appeared to be the members of the Demon Church that had taken over the 2nd level.
Nevertheless, he asked, just in case.
“Demon Church?”
“Kill them.”
As expected.
Taking out his sword, Cairo, from the subspace pouch, he unsheathed it. Slashing at them with ferocity, disposing of every last one of them.
He absorbed their memories and gathered a rough understanding of the current situation.
The ones guarding the place are nothing to worry about.
They were tasked with blocking the passageway between the second level and the Infinite Hell, and guarding it while the core squad went on their mission.
“Seria, if we break that, it’ll open a path back to the Underworld.”
“I’ll take care of that.”
Seeing Seria on the move, he reviewed the memories again.
The main body located deep underground.
There were some skilled ones among them. It makes him wonder where the hell these guys come from.
*Clang!*
*Bam!*
*Boom!*
When Seria destroyed the device and restored the portal to the Underworld, numerous prison guards came through the portal.
The personnel who had been waiting above.
The corner of his mouth rose at the sight of the person leading them.
Vergo, who was once slapped by the Toad.
“Senior, it’s been a while.”
“Yeah.”
“Since it’s an emergency, let’s catch up later.”
“What should we start with?”
“Just round up the criminals in the second level and put them back in their cells.”
“Okay, everyone go!”
He gestured with his head, looking at Seria.
“We should head back down.”

Deep beneath Burning Hell.
At the entrance to the 10th level, a cloaked individual pulled a communication orb from his sleeve.
*Screech*
An eerie voice rang out along with the glow from the communication orb.
– One of the Apostles is dead.”
“Are you referring to the Apostle of Deception?”
-Yeah. Foolish bastard. Tsk. How far along are we with the current operation?”
“We’re using the prisoners’ negative emotions to charge the Demon Gate.”
-When will the Demon Gate be operational?
“A week should be enough.”
-Shorten it to 3 days.
There was only one answer to the Apostle’s command.
“Understood.”
As the communication orb went silent, the figure in the black hood raised their head. A change in the demonic energy emanating from the underground second level could be felt.
They can significantly advance their plans by using them.
The figure in the black hood smirked.
“Release all the prisoners on the 3rd through 8th level.”
