Chapter 73 - Terry the Poison Toad (3)
Chapter 73
Terry the Poison Toad (3)
Seria wrapped her arms around her legs.
For what seemed like the umpteenth time, she felt like she was going to break down from the constant looping.
“Stop…… Please stop…….”
Her pleas went unheeded.
Out of the darkness emerged a group of prison guards in Burning Hell uniforms, who rushed out of nowhere and handcuffed a man.
‘We’ve got Henry Baskervan.’
The guards tackled Henry Baskervan to the ground, crushing him with their weight, and hauled him to his feet.
“Dad….”
Seria reached out for her father as he was dragged away before her eyes. But her hands didn’t reach him.
Tears welled in her eyes.
‘I’ll find a way to return.’
Her father’s voice echoed in her head.
With that promise, he left, but over the years, he never returned.
In the hiding place, she cried and passed out.
Opening her eyes again, she broke out in tears.
Tired of waiting for him to return, Seria looked up at the moon in the sky and vowed.
‘I’m going to rescue you.’
To save her father.
She steeled herself against her weakness and retreated to the family’s secret chambers to train in seclusion.
It was a very difficult period of time when she was alone.
She had to give up a lot of things she wanted to enjoy.
Normal things like going to play with her dad, getting along with her friends, and having a boyfriend were luxuries for her.
All for the purpose of revenge.
Blood was spilled, bone and flesh was cut, and a plan of revenge was hatched. And finally, she has arrived at the place where her father is at.
“Dad…….”
The image of her father in prison.
Unconsciously, Seria stretched out her hand.
But her hand was still out of reach.
‘Henry Baskervan, sentenced to death.’
Beside her shackled father were prison guards, their swords raised and pointed at him, and for some reason she couldn’t move.
“Let go of me, please!”
She screamed at the top of her lungs.
The sword never stopped moving toward her father’s heart. Soon, her father collapse, sputtering and coughing up blood.
“Stop…….”
Even with her eyes closed, she could see it clearly.
No matter how much she covered her ears, she could still hear him writhe in pain.
“I can’t do this anymore.”
Unable to accept the repetition of my father’s death.
Then a man’s face flashed into her mind.
Redin.
On a night when the moon was unusually bright.
She remembered holding Redin’s hand as he promised her something.
She wondered why she had suddenly remembered a face that had never appeared in her recurring nightmares.
Before she could question it.
Redin sauntered over to his father.
*Thwack!*
The guards were overpowered by Redin’s strength, and he unlocked the shackles that held his father.
Redin.
He was smiling broadly.
‘I told you I’d help you.’
‘Hwaah!’
Her face flushed and her eyes widened. Someone was clamping a hand over her mouth.
‘Who is it?’
She scrambled to pull herself upright.
“Shhh.”
Redin’s face was revealed along with his familiar voice. He whispered in her ear, his voice quiet and low.
“Be quiet. Are you planning on spreading the word about your father being in prison in the dungeons?”
“Huh? Ha!”
Redin’s grip loosened, and Seria wiped her lips with her hand.
“What are you talking about?”
“If you start saying ‘Dad, daddy’ in your sleep, and you start cursing out prison guards, even a passing idiot will be suspicious.”
“What?”
‘In her sleep?’
Looking around, the place looked familiar.
Trees everywhere were on fire, and there was a blackened cottage.
Marne Forest.
She remembered the explosion during the mission, and the strange nightmare that began with a black moon.
“Where’s the captain and the vice captain?”
“They woke up a long time ago and are recuperating.”
When Redin turned his head, she saw Daylon and Riena sitting on the floor, with their eyes closed.
“What happened to them?”
“A temporary lull. The battle is about to start again, so get up and snap out of your reverie.”
A temporary lull?
As Redin pushed himself to his feet, she could see what looked like a black egg beyond him. It made her feel sick just looking at it.
“What is that?”
“The one we’re about to fight.”
Then Redin turned his head.
“By the way, your face just flushed, what were you dreaming about?”
“I… I don’t know!”
Scrambling to her feet, Seria spun around and heard Redin’s voice, now without the laughter.
“Come on.”

A war between the creator goddess Veronica and the demon Baal that took place in the beginning of time.
In the first Demonic War, Demon Baal was defeated.
However, for the sake of the future, Demon Baal tore his body into pieces and then scattered them across the continent.
Those fragments would soon become curses, unleashed upon the world.
Tens of thousands of curses.
The conditions under which a curse would choose a host varied, but as long as the conditions were met, the curse would grant the host great power.
However, the moment the owner failed to fulfill the conditions, the curse would consume the owner and steal their body.
Such beings are born as demons.
“Here it comes.”
*Crack!*
A crack appeared in the black egg.
Demonic energy oozed from the crack.
“It’s a hideously murky dark miasma.”
Daylon muttered, and Riena gave him a worried look.
“Do you think we can catch it on our own?”
“I’ve heard that the abilities of a newborn demon aren’t very strong.”
Daylon was right.
It might be harder to catch once the curse had adapted to the body over time, but a newborn demon was certainly manageable with the people here.
“Redin.”
“Yes.”
He stepped to stand beside Daylon.
“Tell me everything you saw while you were fighting Terry. I don’t care if it’s something trivial.”
“‘Terry’ had a mouth on his left hand. It had a toad tongue, and it seemed to be using it to feed.”
He went on to describe everything else that happened right before he turned into an egg, including his toad tongue splitting open and him swinging his weapon.
“None of my attacks worked while it was an egg, so I made it a priority to help save the captain and vice captain.”
“Speaking of attacks not working…… gather around me for now.”
At Daylon’s command, Seria and Heather approached.
“Heather, I want you to cast a tracking spell, and I want you to spread a defensive shield around us.”
“Yes!”
Heather pulled a small wand from his pocket and started chanting.
With a burst of mana.
A blue membrane appeared around them.
Through it, they watched the black egg.
*Squelch!*
An arm shot out from inside.
The fingertips were rounded like a toad.
Slowly, a demon emerged. Its overall appearance was more like a toad, but it stood on two feet like a human.
Its large eyes moved.
It looked at them curiously, then opened its mouth and stuck out its tongue. The black tongue flew out quickly and struck against the shield.
“Ewww…. gross.”
“We have to fight this disgusting bastard.”
At his words, Seria gave a distasteful look, but when their eyes met and she quickly looked away.
‘What the hell.’
“I’ll go out and fight him, you guys stay in here and gather what information you can.”
Daylon stepped out of the shield.
He drew his sword from his belt and charged directly at the demon. A blue mana-fueled blow struck the creature.
*Wham!*
The demon leaped high, dodging Daylon’s attack. It spun in midair and stretched out its feet as it dropped to the ground.
Daylon raised his sword.
*Thump!*
A small ripple spread from the powerful blow.
The ground he was standing on caved in.
In response to the subsequent attack from the Demon, Daylon picked up his momentum and counterattacked.
*Clang!*
*BANG!*
Watching the battle, Riena bit her lip.
“The basic physical abilities are overwhelming, and I don’t think it even used his proper abilities yet…… which will work against us if the battle is prolonged.”
Riena also drew her sword and rushed forward.
Perhaps it was because they had spent so much time together.
The chemistry between Daylon and Riena was fantastic, and they pushed the toad demon to the limit.
Until suddenly.
The Toad Demon closed the distance slightly, and began to puff out its cheeks as if it were holding some air.
“Whoosh!”
Air bubbles poured out of the Toad Demon’s mouth. Air bubbles filled the air in all directions and fell to the ground.
*Sizzle!*
The things that hit the air bubbles melted along with the poisonous energy.
“Barrier!”
Heather created a defensive spell around Riena and Daylon, but it melted the moment the air bubbles touched it.
“Expand!”
With a wave of his hand, Heather’s barrier grew in size, bursting all the air bubbles.
In the meantime, the demon had disappeared.
“Heather, where is it?”
“Behind you!”
With Heather’s shout, the toad demon, which had concealed itself with its colored skin, appeared.
It dug in sharply, launching a surprise attack.
As Daylon blocked the attack with his sword and was about to counterattack again, the Toad Demon disappeared.
“Uh…… uh…… uh!”
Heather stumbled back in surprise, drawing out his sword at the sight of him. Infusing the sword with mana, he swung it violently.
A feeling at the tip of his sword.
He could feel the demon flinch slightly. Pushing inward, he channeled all his mana into the sword.
*Boom!*
A surge of mana formed into an aura blade. With that, he thrust the blade into the demon.
*Squelch!*
He could feel the impalement of his sword into the demon.
Blood dripped out, and the Toad Demon’s coloration was lost.
He was still struggling with the aura blade.
As a side effect, it drained his body of all its energy. Fighting through the pain, he focused his gaze on the demon.
With its protective color gone, it quickly pulled back.
Daylon and Riena charged.
With an unusual twist of his body, he dodged their attacks, but they were persistent in their pursuit.
*Swish!*
*Slash!*
Their swords struck, slicing through the demon.
As it reeled, the genuine aura blade, which was formed from Daylon’s sword, severed its arms and legs.
“Keeeeekkkk!!*
The demon screamed as it fell to the ground.
“Ugh!”
“Are you okay?”
Daylon barely managed to stay standing as Riena helped him to his feet, unaccustomed to wielding an Aura Blade.
Something felt off.
Normally, the curse should have dissipated naturally, but the toad’s curse hadn’t let up.
‘What was I missing?’
He quickly ran through the information in his head. As he sifted through the information about the curse, he realized what he was overlooking.
-When an existing body becomes useless, the curse moves to find a new one.
In the game, cursed demons could only be found in dungeons. Naturally, defeating a dungeon would remove the curse.
So he laughed at this information, wondering why it was even there…….
And then,
A long tongue darted out of the demon’s mouth and wrapped around Daylon and Riena’s necks.
‘Uugh!”
“Tsk!”
Seria hastily draws her dagger and tries to cut off the tongue.
“Damn it, the attack isn’t working.”
The demon opened its mouth wide, swallowing Daylon and Riena whole.
Clenching his fists, he hauled himself to his feet.
His condition was too precarious to activate Blazing Soul. He needed someone else’s help to make it worse.
“Heather.”
“Uh…… what should I do?”
“Use your fire ball magic on me.”
“What?”
“Now!”
Heather wailed, creating a fireball.
“What are you trying to do!”
His eyes locked with Heather’s.
His gaze was filled with trust.
“You trust me, right?”
“Yeah.”
Heather squeezed his eyes shut.
And along with it, a surge of searing heat.
*BOOM!*
[Blazing Soul (EX) is activated].
The blue flames from his heart spread out with the power of the phoenix, filling him with health and mana.
Valid for 10 minutes.
He grabbed the sword that had fallen to the ground beside him and rushed forward. There was no point in arresting Terry now.
Even if it meant killing him.
He must save Daylon and Riena.
Once again, he gathered mana into his sword to form an aura blade, which he filled with purifying power and unleashed a Gale Slash.
A white flash sliced through the demon.
*Slaash!*
*Keeeeeeeeeeekkk!!*
