Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 72 - Terry the Poison Toad (2)

Chapter 72
Terry the Poison Toad (2)

Terry the Poison Toad.

Compared to the other villainous NPCs, he has a large degree of detailed information. Former Burning Hell prison guard and former captain of Magnes.

Also,

He spearheaded the war between Burning Hell and Magnes, and rose to become a major criminal figure after finding and researching the Imperial Laboratory that was responsible for the creation of the supercharged bombs.

Behind him, there was someone else.

Someone whose identity has never been revealed.

The first time he was mentioned was when Terry was captured by the Khan and taken to prison.

-You will die by his hand.

Many users began to wonder who was behind Terry, and various theories were formed.

The Darkness Seven.

Other criminal organizations.

Demon cult.

.

.

.

There were many potential suspects.

After much debate, the consensus narrowed to one.

“The Demon Church.”

Tervis Zerbin, a necromancer he’d met in the Free City Colloum.

He’d found a way to become a Lich by making a deal with the Demon Church, and in exchange for that power, he started a war to bring down the Holy Empire.

He suspected that perhaps Terry was a similar case.

However, it was never revealed what the deal was, or if he was actually acting on the orders of the Demon Church.

*Oooooh!*

But one thing was clear now. The black mask that Terry had taken from his pocket was a mask that emanated a strange energy.

It was a holy relic used by the priests of the Demon Church.

It has the ability to penetrate the minds of its victims and cause them to dream the most horrific of nightmares.

In recurring despair.

A terrible force that can cause a person’s mind to break down and self-destruct.

In the game, it’s just a debuff window and a loss of health, and it can be fixed by drinking a purifying potion.

Not in this world.

Watching Terry slowly put on the mask, he relayed the information to the others around him.

“It’s a relic of the Demon Church. You all must avoid it at all costs!”

“What?”

“Right now….”

*BOOOM!*

An explosion erupted around the compound. A searing heat rose, and a huge flame engulfed the surroundings.

Because he expected it in advance.

Redin’s pre-deployed mana cushioned the blast’s impact.

“Search, and destroy everything!”

*BOOooooommmm!!*

*Booooom!*

Screams echoed amidst the successive explosions.

“Aaaahhh!”

“Ugh!”

Trees caught ablaze.

Plumes of black smoke billowed.

Enemies whose bodies were on fire were screaming in agony. He looked around, searching for the Special Task Force members.

Riena and Seria were safely hidden behind Heather’s barrier magic, and he turned his attention to the source of the wave of mana.

Daylon was charging toward Terry.

It was too late to intervene.

The moment Terry’s eyes turned red behind the black mask, Daylon’s body jolted as if struck by lightning.

His entire body pulsed with black veins.

“Mmph…….”

Through gritted teeth, Daylon fights off Terry’s mental assault, but it won’t be long before he succumbs and starts having despairing dreams.

He leaps from his position and breaks into a sprint.

Pulling out his sword, he slashed at Terry, using a dash and slash. It was a monotonous attack, which Terry easily dodged.

He dug out a holy water vial and threw it at Daylon.

*Sizzzle!*

He watched as the holy water flowed from his head and caused the black veins on his body to subside, before focusing back on Terry.

He was grinning.

“The black moon has already risen.”

“Black moon?”

The next moment he looked up at the sky.

Everything around him was black.

The burning trees, the flames on the ground, the moon in the sky. It was silent, as if the world had stopped.

*Creak!* *Crack!

*Crack!*

Like a pane of glass shattering.

The world had collapsed.

All his senses shut down, leaving him surrounded by monochrome, and slowly, one by one, the colors began to return.

Feeling disoriented.

Something blurred in his vision.

A familiar luxury sedan circled around him. The sound of a full throttle engine echoed in his ears.

*Screeeeecccchhhhh!!!*

-Hahahahahaha!

With a maniacal laugh, the luxury sedan screeched to a halt, white smoke billowing from its tires.

*Screech!*

*CRASSHHH!!*

The sound of hitting something.

He saw a car the luxury sedan had crashed into.

A middle-aged man and woman lay bleeding to death. Their faces were too familiar to be forgotten.

Normally, it would have caused fear.

After all, he’d been tormented for years by dreams of his parents dying.

“This is my weakness?”

He just laughed.

The power of the Phoenix includes an immunity to the mind. Even if presented with a situation like this, it wouldn’t make him panic.

Even if Redin didn’t have the Phoenix’s powers.

The Fairy Queen has long since taken care of his nightmares. They can no longer be used as a weakness against him.

-…… to…….

It came in fleeting bursts.

His mom’s voice was unmistakable.

Turning his gaze, he studied her face carefully.

-…… meets…….

‘Meet?’

-You have to meet …….

The situation overlapped with the last time he had the dream with the help of the Fairy Queen. Apparently, this was the situation.

‘You need to meet someone.’

“…….”

He wanted to ask her directly, but his mouth didn’t open. Then, with the echo of his mother’s voice, a bright light burst forth into his vision.

*Creak!* *Crack!

*Crack!*

The world collapsed once again.

And then it was back to normal.

The smell of burning wood.

The smell of burning flesh.

The sound of screams writhing in agony.

“You need to meet someone?”

Terry wasn’t making this up.

That’s because he heard the same thing in his dreams with the Fairy Queen.

Does this have something to do with his current situation?

Does it have something to do with his arrival in this world?

These thoughts made his head spin. As much as he wanted to organize them, it wasn’t easy.

At that point.

“Ugh!”

“Dad…….”

“Justina…… sorry…….”

He snapped out of his reverie at the sound of his teammates’ cries of pain. Everyone from Daylon to Seria as well as Heather was sprawled around the floor.

In front of him was Terry, concentrating on maintaining his mind assault.

First, though.

Terry must be dealt with.

He made his mind up and set to work.

To prevent him from using Mind Dominance, the first priority is to remove the mask he’s wearing.

*Woosh!* *Slash!*

He rushed forward and swung his sword.

Red light flashed on the black mask as Terry moved.

“How did you break free of the mental grip?”

“Did you think your little trick would work?”

He thrust his sword into the mask.

Terry’s movements were uncharacteristic for someone of his level. Dodging the attack, he drew his sword in a counterattack.

*Clang!*

*Bam!*

*Clang!*

The two of them traded blows.

Neither of them knew the other’s skill level, so both of them were careful not to attack hastily. One wrong move and it could cost one’s life.

“You rat bastard.”

*Swiiiissshh!*

Terry’s body swung wide. There was a gap, but it was an intentional gap. A trap that could kill him if he walked into it.

However, if he knew about it, he could use it to his advantage.

Using the shadow hands, he ducked Terry’s sword. A hand protruded from the floor and grabbed Terry’s arm.

Slipping inside, he struck at the opening.

Redin swung his sword, pulsating with mana.

At that moment, Terry burst out laughing.

“Do you know why I’m called the Poison Toad?”

The reason Terry is called the Poison Toad.

It’s because when he entered the Magnes, he killed the existing captain and became the new captain.

A poisonous toad that disrupts the existing ecosystem.

That’s basically Terry the Poison Toad’s setup.

“You don’t know, that’s why you’re going to die.”

That’s because of the curse of the toad on Terry’s left hand. It has the ability to swallow and digest everything.

It needs to be fed periodically.

A terrible curse that will eat him if he fails to feed it.

As he reached out, his hand split open to reveal a giant mouth, a long tongue darting out of it.

It was the attack Redin had been anticipating.

Using the [Fairy Wings], he moved quickly, spinning his body to avoid the tongue and performing a gust slash.

A strong gust of wind rose around them.

As Terry raised his arms to shield his face, he used the [Shadow Art] to grab his mask.

The black mask was yanked from Terry’s face.

[The shadow power is greedy].

[It wants to consume the holy relic of the demon church].

Without a second thought.

“Eat.”

The shadow picked up the black mask and devoured it.

[Digesting.]

The message faded, and behind it, Terry glared at him through gritted teeth.

“What kind of power is that? Have you also received his calling?”

“Demon church?”

Terry’s expression was ambiguous.

“No matter the cost, I must kill you.”

His body flexed.

Dropping the sword in his right hand, he grabbed his left wrist, and the giant mouth in his left hand opened and spat out something.

From spears and arrows.

To various staffs.

Weapons of all kinds spilled out, and the toad’s tongue parted, lifting up the various armaments.

“Die.”

Light flashed and rushed from the weapons, and mana pulsed from the staffs, creating magic.

A hundred of them, at the very least.

Gripping the hilt of his sword tightly, he rushed forward. He recalled the recently enlightened mechanics of Storm Slash in his mind.

Before.

He thought it was simply a matter of swinging his sword fast and by himself in the slowed down time.

However, the basis of Storm Slash is a series of strikes.

A series of attacks that flowed like water from the first. With that in mind, he swung his sword.

*Whiiirrrrlll!!*

The eye of the storm was still.

In the stillness, he moved forward.

*Slash!*

*Swish!*

*Slash!*

*Rustle!*

One after another.

Every time he cut down everything in sight, his mana dwindled.

Slicing through everything.

By the time he reached in front of Terry and sliced off both of his arms, all the mana in his body was drained.

A storm that came after the silence.

*Whirl!* *Wooooosssshhh!!* *Whirrrlll!*

*Whoooooossssshhhhh!!!*

Everything around him was swept away by the storm. Along with the toad’s curse, the armor and magic were swept away.

“Aaaaarrrggghhh!”

Terry screamed as his arm was sliced off and he collapsed to the ground. Flicking the blood off his sword, he sheathed his weapon.

Reaching around his waist, he pulled out a pair of handcuffs.

As he approached Terry and was about to cuff his legs with the mana cuffs, Terry’s left hand twitched on the floor.

A toad’s tongue wrapped around Terry’s neck from its wide-open mouth.

“Shit.”

He quickly raised his sword to cut off the toad’s tongue.

*CLANG!*

The sword bounced back as if it were made of steel.

His left hand turned into a giant mouth and swallowed Terry’s head. Black liquid oozed out and covered Terry’s body.

Then it took the form of an egg.

*Thud.*

*Thump.*

The egg moved with the sound of a heartbeat.

“He’s been eaten by the curse.”

The moment the body’s strength wanes.

Sometimes a curse would eat the body to gain control of it.

He’d seen it before with other curses.

Terry had never been eaten by a curse, at least not in the game, so he hadn’t expected this.

Approaching the egg, Redin lifted his sword.

He filled it with a tiny amount of mana and slashed at the egg, but a transparent membrane blocked it and the mana in the sword disappeared.

“Absorbing attacks is the same.”

The moment the egg hatched.

Terry would be reborn as a demon. With a different level of strength than before.

“Looks like we’ll need to strengthen this side as well.”

He turned his head to look at his fallen comrades. The time it takes to be born as a demon is approximately ten minutes.

Drawing on his purifying power, he walked toward his companions.

“Time to get up.”
