Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 75 - Cerberus (2)

Chapter 75
Cerberus (2)

As he disembarked from the Brule Harbor and made his way to the Kingdom of Resha, he felt a slight vibration from the conch he kept on his chest.

After finding a secluded alley nearby and making sure no one was in the vicinity, he pulled out the conch shell.

[Rippling Conch Shells]

-When two pairs of conch shells with a matching resonance meet, they can communicate over any distance.

He held the shell to his ear and heard a familiar voice.

-Is this how I hear you?

Marek Casino.

His voice seemed to brighten a little.

“I can hear you just fine.”

-Oh. I can hear you, too. It’s good to hear your voice after so long.

“Did something happen?”

-No. I thought I’d check in with you at least once.

“Is that so?”

-Can’t you be more comfortable saying that?

“I’m comfortable with this.”

-Yes. Okay. Let’s see. First of all, I made the Merchant Troupe like you said. I named the top “Eleanor,” is that okay?

The last name of Marek’s wife, Avienna.

Redin think he named it in honor of her, but it doesn’t really matter. In the game, Marek named the Merchant Troupe “Eleanor” anyway.

“Yeah. It doesn’t matter.”

-I’ve saved quite a bit of money by taking over a near-bankrupt business in the Kingdom of Resha, and I think I’ll be able to get it up and running once I’m done renovating and organizing it.

For a first-timer, he definitely got things done quickly. If that’s not talent, he don’t know what is.

“Well done.”

-And speaking of potions, I’ve made contact with Sophia, and we’ve talked, and I’ve secured ten vials. What do you think we should call them?

“Elixir.”

-Elixir…… Sounds good. Okay. Do you have a noble in mind? I feel like you might be able to recommend one.

Honestly, he hadn’t really thought about it.

But now that he thinks about it, there’s someone Marek might want to contact first.

“Count Dominic of the Kingdom of Adrian.¹ I know his mother is seriously ill.”

If Redin can make a favorable connection here, it could be of great help to Rebecca when she sorts out her brothers and ascends to the throne.

-I see.

“It would be nice to have tiers of elixirs based on their potency, and sell them starting at the bottom and working your way up.”

-I see, we can sell them multiple times, since nobles won’t spare any money to get the best ones. Should I contact a lot of nobles then?

“First, approach the nobles who aren’t a risk to us, bring in the capital, and build up the strength to defend the technology.”

-Okay. I think I have a clearer picture of how to proceed.

Now the business will take care of itself.

“What about your daughter?”

-Ellie? I think she’s still in shock. She doesn’t talk or eat much. I’ve been going to sleep every night wondering how I can get close to her.

“I think you’re going to be a good father.”

-I try.

He smiled.

“Then contact me again some other time.”

After arriving in the Kingdom of Resha.

Redin followed the waiting prison guards directly to where Warden Rukel was.

The stadium set up for the Great Hell War.

Behind it, he entered a large building and rode the elevator upward. He stepped off the elevator and walked along the corridor.

A door in the far depths.

*Knock!* *Knock!*

“I’ve brought Redin.”

“Come in.”

The man next to him opened the door for Redin.

The room was set up like a luxury hotel. The outer walls were lined with windows, allowing a clear view outside.

He walked inside and stood across from the couch where Rukel sat.

“Salute.”

“Have a seat.”

Redin sat down and a secretary brought him tea. At Rukel’s beckoning, he sipped his tea.

“I have the initial report. Except for you, the rest of the group can’t come because they need further treatment at Burning Hell.”

“Yes.”

“And they’ve told me that I must hear the report on this one from your mouth.”

He set down the teacup in his hand.

Then Rukel gestured to the secretary and the man beside him to leave.

There was a silence.

He checked to see if anyone else was nearby, but the secretary and subordinate moved away from the door.

“If it’s eavesdropping, you don’t have to worry about it.”

“Then I’ll tell you right away.”

He debriefed Rukel on what had happened.

The infiltration of the Marne Forest to capturing Terry, and the fierce battle with the manifestation of the curse that followed.

“We couldn’t capture Terry after he turned into a demon, so we had no choice but to deal with him in the field.”

“I can’t help it.”

Rukel stroked his beard.

“Hmph. The curse of the Demon Church…… What do you make of it, do you think it’s a mere coincidence?”

“Looking back at Terry’s actions so far, he’s been pretty methodical. I don’t think it’s a simple coincidence.”

“I’d also have to consider the possibility of a criminal organization and the Demon Church working together……. Oh, and did you find anything in the Imperial laboratory that Terry was looking for?”

“Nothing.”

Rukel gave a dubious look, then looked back at him with a small smile.

“By the way, how are you feeling?”

“Good.”

“It’s a shame you weren’t able to participate in the Hell War.”

“It’s a shame too.”

He responded, but it wasn’t really disappointing. The whole point of participating in the Hell War in the first place was to get into Cerberus.

Having accomplished that, there was no reason to enter the Hell War that offered no significant rewards.

“Do you think you would have won if you had?”

“Yes.”

Rukel smiled with satisfaction.

“I’m looking forward to it.”

Rukel rose from his seat.

Redin stood up as well, and followed him.

“Speak with my secretary, and she will tell you what you are to do here.”

“I understand.”

With a bow.

He left the room and approached the secretary.

“Warden Rukel said there’s something I need to do.”

“Follow me. I’ll guide you.”

He followed the secretary to the place where they’d arranged for him to stay.

Top-of-the-line accommodations.

“There is a uniform in the closet for you to wear, Sir Redin. The day after tomorrow is the day of the finals of the Hell War. Simply wear the uniform and participate.”

Khan’s exhibition in the game.

The Great Hell War was watched by all the kingdoms, and it was there that Rukel made Khan’s name widely known.

Only this time, it was him, not Khan.

“Until then, you can take it easy.”

“Yes.”

After watching the secretary leave, he walked over to the closet.

Opening it, he saw a black uniform.

It was accented with gold and red, and on the belt was an engraving of Cerberus, the symbol of Burning Hell.

A special uniform made for Cerberus.

Starting with the shielding protection, it blocked a certain amount of magic, and included conveniences like temperature regulation and self-repair.

He swept his hand down the uniform.

“Now the fun really begins.”

He had a really relaxing experience for two days.

Without stepping out of the room, he ate delicious food and immersed himself in his training.

This time he obtained new abilities with the power of shadows.

Beyond simply forming hands to subdue enemies, he now can shape them into weapons.

*Whoosh!*

A sword emerged from the shadows on the wall and moved around for a minute before receding back into the wall.

Now he could wield it proficiently.

[The Shadow covets the Mask of the Dead].

“I told you to stop.”

Dismissing the message window, he stood up and headed for the closet, peeling off the plastic over his clothes and changing into his uniform.

He strapped the scabbard to his waist and slipped on his coat.

Looking in the mirror, he made some final adjustments and left the room.

The nearby stadium was bustling with people who had come to watch, and it was clear from the flags they carried who had made it to the final.

The Kingdom of Ravino and the Kingdom of Adrian.

“Something’s not right here.”

The winner at this point in the game was Khan. After winning the Hell War, he was awarded a medal and became the center of attention.

Is this the beginning of the butterfly effect?

As he entered the arena, he found out information about the finalists.

The third prince of the Rabino Kingdom.

A sword disciple from the Moon Palace.

Khan was marked as absent from the beginning. He is a figure who would have participated in the Hell Battle no matter what happened.

There was only one possibility if he didn’t participate.

“I guess he’s on a mission.”

As Redin made his way to his assigned seat, he saw Daylon waving.

“Little Brother, why are you here now?”

“Are you all right?”

“I wasn’t too badly injured to begin with, but it’s so much easier and better when the head of the medical department is a priest.”

‘Not just any priest.’

She’s a candidate for sainthood, so her abilities are far superior.

“It’s a shame, though, because I’d like to be able to get this kind of treatment right away. I don’t want to have to travel all the way to Burning Hell.”

The medical center is located in Burning Hell.

If someone was injured in the middle of a mission, they would have to travel to Burning Hell for treatment.

In the event of war with the Magnes, this would be a major inconvenience.

Will it not improve in the future? If a full-scale war breaks out with Magnus, the role of the medical director will become more significant.

“I should try making a suggestion.”

The conversation was interrupted by the loud voice of the commentator.

“We will now begin the final match of the Great Hell War!”

“Waaaaaaaah!”

“Let me introduce the two players who will be competing in today’s final match. First, Fabian, the Third Prince of the Ravino Kingdom, who defeated Romanov of the Resha Kingdom!”

With a loud cheer from the people of the Ravino Kingdom, a young man in a blue uniform waved his hand and entered the arena.

A handsome face.

-If Fabian’s humanity was as good as his swordsmanship, the Ravino Kingdom would not have perished.

A familiar name from the game, the man who had lost to Khan in the quarterfinals.

This time, Khan wasn’t there, so it was a natural progression to the final.

“His opponent is Adela of the Adrian Kingdom, who defeated Odd of the Crane Kingdom!”

A woman walks in with an air of confidence.

She’s the last of Swordswoman Jin’s students, and the one Swordswoman predicted would be her successor to lead the Moon Palace.

He looked around to see if she was here, but there was no sign of the woman.

Did she see the note he’d left for her in Zarkal?

“You two, please come to the center.”

Fabian and Adela walked to the center of the arena, and dozens of communication orbs filmed them from above.

Each kingdom is watching them.

“Those two. Keep an eye on them, they’re the ones who will be joining the new organization.”

“You mean Cerberus?”

“Yes.”

A special organization created by Burning Hell.

It was a special group created to fight the war against Magnes, and it was composed of powerful people from each kingdom.

The core members are Daylon, Rebecca, Seria, and Khan.

Not much is known about the other members of the organization, except for Adela from the Adrian Kingdom.

So while he knows about the Cerberus organization, he doesn’t know much about how it actually works.

“Fabian is a prince, is that possible?”

“King Ravino gave him permission, so there’s no reason he can’t.”

“He’s very talented, but I understand he has some personality issues.”

“That’s true.”

“But…… why.”

“One of Magnes’s captains, the Fire Ant, is based in the Kingdom of Ravino, and if you want to wield any real power there, you’ll need a trump card like the Third Prince.”

It seems to be a shield to move around the Ravino Kingdom.

As long as the Third Prince is a member of the organization.

The nobles of the Ravino Kingdom can’t touch them, and it would be easy to catch those nobles in league with the Fire Ant.

That’s why they’ve recruited people from the six kingdoms.

“By the look on your face, you seem to have understood it immediately.”

“Yes.”

“Then which one of them do you think will win?”

In response to Daylon’s question, he shifted his gaze to one side.

“I…”
