Chapter 85 - Baron Millet (3)
Chapter 85
Baron Millet (3)
Kenian leader of the Trojan mercenaries.
He watched the wagons approaching in the distance, his mouth twitching.
The target in there.
The price on his head was huge.
-The man who killed the Knights Commander is coming this way. Can you handle him?
Baron Millet’s offer was too sweet to pass up.
The mercenaries would explore dungeons and take on assignments, but what they did most was kill people.
-Well, killing people is what we do best, but since this is the guy who killed the Knight Commander, I think we should charge five times our usual rate…
-Okay.
Baron Millet coolly agreed.
Five times as much as he’d been paid to carry out Baron Millet’s orders, enough to keep him well-fed for half a year.
-I will kill you cleanly.
Kenian gestured to his men as he watched the carriage pull up in front of the mansion. A man in a strange uniform stepped out, exuding murderous intent.
“If you cooperate now, I’ll spare your lives.”
“You’re just a prison guard. I need to get my medicine, so kill him quickly.”
Kenian frowned at Baron Millet’s words.
‘Prison guards?’
Of all the people in the world.
Messing with the guards of Burning Hell was a different story.
A nation of mercenaries.
The Kingdom of Carvin.
One of the conditions of belonging there was not to mess with the guards of Burning Hell.
‘Wait a minute….’
Upon closer inspection, the face was familiar.
It was one of the two guards the warden of Burning Hell had introduced to them the day of the Hell War, promising to defeat Magnes.
His name was Redin.
“Whoa….”
Should they take the risk.
This is too damn profitable.
Two thoughts collided in his head.
Leading a mercenary group, he wonder when he’ll be able to earn this much money. Even if he quit being a mercenary, joining a criminal organization would be an option.
Baron Millet has connections with Magnes, so he can connect him.
‘I’ll kill him and get a lot of money, right?’
This were the thoughts gathered after much mulling over and Kenian looked straight ahead with a wry smile.
Redin holding his stance.
A woman who got off the carriage approached him.
“Vice Captain.”
“You guys, protect the carriage from now on. I’ll take care of these guys.”
“Understood.”
Redin walked towards the side. Pulling his sword from its white scabbard hanging from his waist.
At that moment, Kenian exuded murderous killing intent.
The easiest way to kill an enemy is to instill fear. However, Redin calmly shifted his focus and studied the man.
“They don’t look like the sort of men a Baron like you would keep around.”
Baron Millet burst out laughing.
“It’s the power of money, boy.”
“okay? Let’s get a taste of how powerful money is.”
A shift in Redin’s demeanor.
A surge of killing intent flowed from his cold eyes, spreading throughout his body, and swept over Kenian.
*Hmph.*
Kenian stumbled backward. He’d been swept away by Redin’s sudden burst of killing intent, and the moment he realized it, an expletive flew out of his mouth.
“Fuck…….”
Glancing to the side, he saw that the others had done the same. Turning his gaze back to Redin, he glared.
He assumed that killing Baron Millet’s knights wouldn’t matter, they were more than capable of being killed by the Trojan Mercenaries.
Beside him, he glared at Baron Millet.
“Baron, we need to change the terms of our agreement.”
“What are you talking about?”
“That asshole is at least an Expert, and we’ll have to risk our lives to kill him. Five times the current price, or we’re leaving.”
“You can kill him if I pay you?”
“Yes.”
“Then kill him, because I’ll pay you that much.”
Kenian swallowed hard and unsheathed his sword.
‘He’s an Expert level…..’
Overwhelming physical abilities and reflexes.
An impressive amount of experience and skill.
Most importantly, they have the ability to wield a skill that only they possess: the Aura Blade.
In this world, the term “monster” is used to describe an Expert level.
It meant they weren’t easy to kill.
However, the reason they’re called monsters instead of immortals is that even an Expert level user can be killed by a stab to the heart.
‘I never thought I’d have to use this.’
Kenian shouted to his men as he readied his sword.
“We go to plan D.”
At his command, four of his men lunged at Redin, throwing off the cloaks they were wearing.
*Clang!*
The cloaks parted to form a net. Nets thrown from four directions. Redin swung his sword.
A mana charged blow.
The moment the sword touched the net, the mana dissipated. The net entangled in the sword shifted and wrapped around Redin’s arm.
Then another net wrapped around his body, and the mage behind him cast a spell.
“Gravity.”
The weight of the nets increased explosively.
Redin’s body buckled.
“Now!”
At Kenian’s command, his men rushed forward, swords drawn. Spreading out in all directions, they filled their swords with mana.
Forming an Aura Blade, they swung their weapons at Redin.
*Crash*
There was a thick cloud of dust that rose.
It was a powerful blow, but Kenian was not reassured. This guy wasn’t that easy to defeat.
It was just a false attack.
From here on out, it’s for real.
“Next!”
“Firebuster!”
*Boom!*
A pillar of fire rose up from where Redin had been standing. Someone of Redin’s caliber wouldn’t be able to withstand a Fire Buster.
It wasn’t an ordinary spell.
The net wrapped around his body. It drained the mana of those who came into contact with it, and his magic explosively increased in strength.
*Guuuuussssshhhh!!*
*Hiss!*
The net around Redin’s body melted, causing intense heat to pour out. A heat that made breathing difficult.
Everything close to him was melting.
Kenian squinted, keeping his focus on Redin. He heightened his senses, checking on Redin’s position.
The center of the explosion was silent.
‘Did we get him……?’
Just as he was contemplating ……, a subordinate’s screams echoed from the vicinity of the mansion.
“Arrgghhh!”
The subordinate’s head flew off, his pupils dilated.
It wasn’t just one.
“Keuk!”
“Thud!”
The severed heads of the men around the pillar of fire tumbled to the ground.
Kenian’s gaze turned to the pillar of fire.
The pillar of fire split open in two. From within it, Redin walked, unharmed.
Kenian swallowed hard.
‘This is ridiculous…….’
A firebuster that sucked in all of Redin’s mana. Normally, he should have melted in the resulting blast of heat.
However, Redin’s condition was perfectly fine.
*Weeiiinnggg!!*
Moreover, the glow from his sword meant that the net hadn’t sucked out all of his Mana.
“No way….. is he a master?”
There was no other explanation.
Then there was only one course of action.
“Get…. out of here!”
“Where are you going?”
The icy voice chilled the air around him. His body was frozen in place.
*Crunch!*
The slowly approaching looming shadow of death.
With each step he took, screams echoed in every direction.
Finally, Death reached Kenian.
“That was a pretty funny attempt.”
*Slash!*

As the man’s head rolled to the ground, Redin looked up and stared at Baron Millet.
His face was ashen.
Shaking off the blood from his sword, he walked toward Baron Millet. The knights beside him made way for him without protest.
Baron Millet stretched out his hand.
“……, Wait…. Wait a minute. I’ll cooperate.”
“Cooperate? I don’t need it.”
“I’ll tell you everything I know. Just… Just spare my life.”
He glanced at Baron Millet, then glanced elsewhere.
There, beside Adela, Luke, and Fabian, were Seria and Hugo, who had joined them late, conversing.
“Seria.”
She stopped the conversation and walked over.
“What?”
“I want you to take the kids and search the mansion.”
“Okay.”
“Gather everyone outside, and have Fabian keep watch.”
“Yes.”
Seria turned and left.
Focusing on Baron Millet again.
“You follow me.”
He dragged him over to a corner on the left side of the manor.
“Now, you will only answer what I ask you, do you understand?”
“Yes.”
“Name.”
“Millet Dvornitz.”
“Title.”
“Baron.”
“How long have you been involved with Magnes?”
“Two years.”
“You’re bullshitting me from the start.”
Raising his hand, he slapped Baron Millet across the cheek.
*Smack!*
Baron Millet fell to the floor, tears streaming down his face as he touched his cheek. The pain was too much for him to bear.
But it hadn’t even ended yet.
Grabbing him by the hair, he lifted his face.
*Smack!*
*SLAP!*
*Smack!*
Releasing his hair, he stared at the bright red palm print on his face. Baron Millet slumped down, a trickle of saliva mixed with blood.
“Ugh…… arghh…….”
“How long have you been trading drugs with Magnes?”
“Four…… years.”
“Then why the fuck did you lie to me.”
“…….”
He raises his hand slightly.
“If it was short, I thought you’d be less likely to cut off…… and give me a pass…..”
“I’m the one who decides how you’re treated. You just tell me the truth as you know it. Do you understand?”
“Yes…..”
“Tell me how did you and Magnes have a chance to interact?”
“I found out through Count Dante.”
Though he expected the connection to span at least one viscount, he hadn’t expected it to be so direct.
“Count Dante?”
“Yes. He introduced me to Magnes.”
“Tell me everything you know about him.”
“I don’t know.”
“What about other things?”
“I really don’t. I’ve only seen his face once, that’s all.”
“Then how did you get into the drug business?”
“I’ve been in touch with Magnes since I was introduced to them by the Count, I swear.”
It doesn’t sound like he’s lying.
“Then tell me what he looks like.”
“He looks very dignified. You know, the sort of look that makes you think, “Oh, that’s what real nobility looks like.”
“Not that, a characteristic.”
“……short hair. He was tall, and really handsome. I don’t really know how to describe it other than that.”
Short hair, tall.
Handsome face.
It was all so abstract that it was hard to pinpoint anyone.
He considered killing Baron Millet.
The Mask of the Dead showed only recent memories, so there was a good chance he wouldn’t see Count Dante’s face.
“What are you doing with all those drugs?”
“There’s an event.”
An event that the Knight Commander’s memory also spoke of. He stared at Baron Millet, waiting for him to elaborate.
“It’s an event…… being held by Count Dante, and unless you have an invitation, you can’t get in, even if the king comes.”
“What kind of event is it?”
“It’s like a social gathering, where all the rich nobles get together to drink, do drugs, and hook up with men and women…….”
“Have you ever been to one?”
“I’ve only been once, and that was the event where I met Count Dante.”
“Where does it take place?”
“I don’t know. It’s a very secretive place, so the location changes every time, and it’s only written on the invitations……….”
“Then how do you distribute the drugs?”
“Well, we drop them off at certain locations, and the people that Count Dante sends come and get them.”
“Really?”
Vaguely, he envisioned the next step.
“Where is that place?”
“…….”
“Don’t bother trying to fool me.”
“It’s the village of Cabero, west of the Ravino Kingdom. I always take the drugs there.”
“One last thing.”
He stood up, and glared at Baron Millet.
“How did you know I was coming?”
“I have a disposable communication orb that allows me to make emergency calls to the manufacturing factory. Someone tipped me off with it.”
“You heard a voice?”
Baron Millet nodded his head quickly.
“It was a man’s voice.”
