Chapter 86 - Spy (1)
Chapter 86
Spy (1)
Someone who made an emergency call.
He can’t say for sure if it was the spy.
It could have been the guy who was running the factory.
“Wasn’t that the supervisor?”
“No.”
Baron Millet replied firmly.
“What makes you so sure?”
“I heard two men talking.”
“You heard them talking?”
“I distinctly heard them discussing the processing of the workshop.”
Two men having a conversation.
Luke was outside with him, dealing with the knights, and Hugo and Fabian were inside the workshop, monitoring the gang members.
He must have heard what they were talking about.
“When exactly did you hear them?”
“I just heard the two men talking.”
By then, the supervisor was in custody, which meant that either Fabian or Hugo had activated the bead.
There was no concrete proof of this, however.
He had to take Baron Millet’s word for it. But the only way to be sure was to kill him.
“Was anyone else with you at the time?”
“One of the knights you killed earlier was with me.”
“Really?”
Several memories rushed through his mind as he slaughtered them.
Through the Mask of the Dead, he slowly reviewed each of the memories.
Before he killed the last one.
There was evidence in the memory of the knight who had rushed out from behind Baron Millet.
A large room that appeared to be an office.
The orb on the table glowed red and activated, and he could hear two men talking.
-Redin, you bastard.
-Why do you call the vice-captain a bastard?
-Don’t you see how he’s been deliberately fucking with me since the beginning of training?
-Then you should have won the Hell War.
-Get lost, jerk.
-By the way, I’m done cleaning up the workshop, how long am I supposed to keep an eye on these guys?
Fabian and Hugo talking.
Baron Millet listened to the conversation, and the memory ended with the memory’s owner giving the order to summon the head of the mercenary corps.
“Hmmm….”
Based on what little information he had so far.
Either Fabian or Hugo could be the spy.
But he couldn’t single out who.
With so little information so far, it’s going to take some time to figure out which one of them is the real spy.
For now, we need to wrap this up and figure out our next move.
“Get up.”
Handcuffing Baron Millet, he steered him back to the front of the mansion. Leaving Baron Millet where the others were gathered, Redin proceeded into the mansion.
A strange sight he had seen ever since he first arrived.
Following the green path, he walked deeper into the mansion. For such a small estate, the interior was as opulent as the man himself.
Also.
It was also all too clear what kind of life he had spent.
Every room along the hallway was filled with liquor, including a special room dedicated to partying and playing with women.
“He looks like a man whose life revolves around alcohol and womanizing…”
Why did Count Dante pick up Baron Millet and link him to the magnet?
Was it so he can easily to cut his own tail off?
Or is there something else he’s missing?
As he pondered this, trying to figure out Count Dante, he arrived at a place where the green hue seemed intense.
An underground chamber in the mansion.
As he reached for the doorknob to open the door, electricity crackled as a field of magic was activated.
“What have you been hiding?”
Pulling out his sword, he charged it with mana.
Then he brought it down on the doorknob.
*Crraaaaccckkk!!*
The enchantment resisted, but only fleetingly. With a loud snap, the door to the underground chamber opened.
*Bam!*
The interior of the underground chamber was unveiled.
Inside, there were display cases lined up, with various items in glass casings.
A common hobby of the nobility.
It appears that Baron Millet also had a taste for collecting various things.
He went further inside.
As he looked around the display cases, he stopped in front of a green glowing wooden statue.
Though it was hard to tell who exactly it was modeled after, the energy emanating from it made it obvious to anyone who looked at it.
Demon Church.
[The Shadow is greedy].
[It wants to consume the holy relics of the Demon Church].
Not surprisingly.
His suspicion was not misplaced.
“Eat.”
A mouth emerged from the shadows and devoured the wooden statue.
[Digesting].
But the Shadow didn’t stop there.
[The Shadows’ appetite is insatiable].
[It wants to devour the Cursed Necklace].
[It wants to consume the Accursed Sword of Khairou].
[It wants to devour Lucate’s Cursed Doll].
“Okay. Eat them all.”
And with that, the shadow sprang out once more, consuming the items in the display case. Shaking his head at Baron Millet’s peculiar hobby, he exited the underground chamber.
His business here was done.
As he turned to walk out of the mansion, the message appeared once more.
[The Shadow has finished digesting].
Its speed, unprecedented.
[Increased mastery of the Shadow Arts].
[Reached the level of Shadow Divinity].
[The special ability ‘Shadow Alter Ego’ is unlocked].
[Ding!]
[The dream of the ‘Shadow Lord’ hidden in your shadow dream has surfaced, do you wish to have that dream?]¹
“Uh.”
[After 300 days, you will be able to have a new dream].
After the prompt faded away.
He recalled the information he had gained about the Shadow Lord.
The Shadow Lord from the original version of the game.
The Shadow Legion, led by Henry Baskervan.
The Shadow Alter Ego was the beginning of him leading the Shadow Legion.
“Shadow Alter Ego.”
*Shhhh!*
With the sensation of something being ripped out of his body, a shadow that looked exactly like him materialized.
At the same time, there was an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion.
When he checked his body, he realized that the size of his mana pool had been reduced by half.
It wasn’t just his mana.
He also noticed that his physical strength was significantly lower than before. Dismissing the shadow alter ego, the mana pool returned to its original capacity.
” It seems to be sharing my own power.”
Redin activated his shadow alter ego once more.
This time, though, he moved the shadow into the room and used one of the skills of his shadow alter ego that came to his mind.
Shadow Movement.
The shadows on the floor enveloped his entire body, and his vision blurred, but when it returned, he was standing where his shadow alter ego had been standing.
Simultaneously, his mana pool became full.
“Not a location switch.”
It was a technique to merge with the Shadow Alter Ego and be transported to its place. It was a shame that he couldn’t freely move back and forth between the two.
It was a problem that could be solved by increasing the amount of alter egos.
“Time to go up.”
Smiling at his newfound ability, he headed toward the mansion’s entrance, only to hear Fabian shouting in anger.
“Where’d you get this, you piece of shit!”

“Where’d you get this, you piece of shit!”
“Luke, you round up all of them, the rest of you sweep and search through the mansion.”
Seria walked into the mansion first.
Fabian followed, then glanced at Redin, who was seen dragging Baron Millet into the distance.
‘…… fucking bastard.’
From Brule Harbor to now.
He could feel it in his gut, not just how he’d acted throughout their training, but how he’d deliberately ostracized him on the mission.
‘I rolled like a dog during training.’
When it came time for combat, he was left out of the equation and only assigned to keep an eye on the people who got captured.
The same goes for the nocturnal roving, and it was clear he didn’t want to let him accumulate any achievements.
‘Should I just hit him?’
It’s a question he ask himself dozens of times a day, but the conclusion is always the same. To accumulate achievements here, no matter what.
To wring his half brother’s throat.
He had to use Cerberus.
“Haa…….”
Fabian felt a strong thirst in his throat, and he looked around until he came to a room with various liquors on display.
He spotted one of his usual favorites.
It was a high-class liquor, not something that a simple baron could afford, but Fabian didn’t care about that and opened the lid.
*Gulp!*
The alcohol flowing down his throat.
He smiled in satisfaction at the burning sensation and quenching of his thirst.
“Mmm.”
Fabian plopped down on a nearby couch and sat down. As he always did. He sipped at the alcohol, quelling his frustration.
How long had it been?
“Hey. What are you doing here?”
Fabian opened his eyes and looked at Hugo, who was leaning against the door.
“Just taking a little break.”
“The vice-captain’s coming back in. You’d better move if you don’t want to be yelled at for fooling around.”
“Tsk.”
Fabian set down the bottle and stood up. He left the room and walked down the hall with Hugo.
“This is the room we haven’t checked yet, you should sweep this one.”
He watched Hugo disappear.
Fabian opened the door and entered the room.
A storeroom of miscellaneous things.
There didn’t seem to be anything of great importance, so he gave it a cursory look and was about to leave when he spotted something that stopped him in his tracks.
A crude ring made of iron.
‘This is…… why?’
Fabian picked up the ring with trembling hands, and just in case, he examined the inscription written on the inner side of the ring.
[Vivian]
His body became stiff.
All thought came to a standstill as the alcohol rushed out of his system. He stared at the ring in disbelief.
‘Why…..’
The hand holding the ring trembled.
‘Vivian…..’
A childhood friend who he had grown up with.
They had whispered their love to each other.
But when Vivian became his half-brother’s fiancée, Fabian had to give her up.
This ring he made for her.
-I’ll keep it until I die.
The image of Vivian leaving with the ring is vivid in his mind, and a few months later, she disappeared from the world.
And then.
“Why is this here?”
Fabian gritted his teeth.
*Grind!*
He picked up the ring and strode out of the mansion. He spotted Baron Millet rubbing his cheek among the crowd of people.
Fabian walked up to him and grabbed him by the collar.
“What are you doing…..”
“You! Where did you get this?”
He showed the ring on his hand.
“I don’t know what it is…… and I’ve told everything I know…….”
Fabian snarled, looking at Baron Millet with a face contorted with fury.
“You dare try to disrespect me, a Prince of the Ravino Kingdom.”
“Pri…… Prince?”
“Tell me right now, where you got this.”
Seeing Baron Millet’s stunned expression, Fabian pulled out the sword at his waist.
He pointed it at the Baron’s neck.
Red blood trickled down the blade from the slight scratch.
“Where did you get this, you fucking bastard!”
“I snatched it off…..”
“What?”
Fabian frowned in disbelief.
“Stole it?”
“Yes…… I bought a slave a few months ago and handed him over to Count Dante, and I took what she had in her possession.”
“Tell me what she looks like.”
“Huh?”
Fabian’s sword delved into Baron Millet’s neck.
Millet yelped.
“The…… it was a woman with blond hair. She had a mole on the back of her neck…….”
Fabian choked on his saliva at the description.
He was right, it was Vivian.
“Count Dante…… Dante…….”
Fabian muttered as if possessed, then stood and turned to walk away.
If he returned to the Kingdom now and led his knights to Count Dante’s territory, he might be able to see Vivian again.
Redin stepped in front of him.
“Step aside.”
“Viviane Annette.”
Fabian frowned.
“How did you know that name…….?”
“If you want to meet her, you will listen to me.”
