Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 97 - Brown Bear Hunting (1)

Chapter 97
Brown Bear Hunting (1)

A diner in a small town.

Daylon walked into the establishment, taking in the atmosphere. He took a seat in the corner and was approached by a waiter.

A boy with a small stature.

He was covered in bruises. Seeing the look in Daylon’s eyes, the waiter quickly covered the bruises and spoke up.

“May I take your order?”

“Can you give me some soup and bread?”

“Okay.”

As he watched the waiter depart, he casually scanned the place. There was an owl-shaped statue and a tattoo of an owl on the proprietor’s neck.

‘It’s just what Redin said.’

A village made up of members of the Magnes Organization.

According to Redin’s information, beyond this was the Fire Ants’ stronghold, and this place stands as a sentry to safeguard it.

*Step!* *Thump!*

At the sound of footsteps, he swivels his head.

The owner, with a tattoo across his neck, approached and shot him a menacing glare.

“I can’t make you soup and bread right now, so go back.”

Soup and bread.

It was a cipher.

A phrase that Fire Ant tells only to those he invites into his lair.

Normally, they would ask who it was.

Considering he couldn’t make the soup and bread, it seemed like there was some reason he couldn’t go inside right now.

“Do you know who I am?”

“That’s none of my business. I can’t serve you right now, so go back.”

*BANG!*

The owner slammed the table and glared at him. That made him even more curious. Why doesn’t the Fire Ant welcome any customers?

Had someone stopped by?

‘Could it be Caius?’

*Woosh!*

In an instant of raw emotion, Daylon reached out and blocked the owner’s fist.

*Snap!*

The owner’s pupils widened.

Without missing a beat, he snapped the owner’s fist, causing him to scream in pain as his bones gave way.

“Aaaahhhh!”

“What’s going on inside there now?”

“Arghhh!, I don’t know!”

“Unless you want your arm ripped off, you’d better start talking.”

“I don’t know, I really don’t!”

“Then why did you block me entry?”

“Because Sir Fire Ant told me not to let anyone in…… Ahhhh!”

Releasing the owner’s arm, he kicked him in the head, knocking him out cold. Bending down, he snatched the necklace from around his neck.

An illusion enchantment on the way to the Lair.

This was an artifact that would allow him to travel to the lair without being affected by the enchantment.

*Bam!*

The door opened and the team members walked in.

“Captain, we have secured the artifact.”

They held an artifact in their hands.

Daylon stood up from his position and walked over to the group, glancing at the waiter cowering in the corner.

“Kid.”

“Yes……?”

“Are your parents alive?”

The waiter shook his head.

“Well, do you have a place to go?”

He shook his head again.

“Okay. Then wait for me. You can come with us.”

Daylon left the waiter and walked out of the diner. One of his team members, Rebecca, came up beside him.

“That road up ahead is the way to the lair.”

“Let’s go.”

Daylon sprinted down the path.

Following him, the team picked up their pace.

A single path up ahead.

As he stepped into it, his vision blurred, throwing him off balance. After a few moments, the artifact triggered, and everything snapped back to normal.

A basin with a mountain range surrounding it.

A base built into the flat ground.

“Keep an eye out for any sentinels that might be around, and if discovered, we’ll move in quickly and clean things up.”

“Understood.”

With that, they accelerated their speed and moved onward.

After running for quite a long time.

Rebecca, running beside Daylon, spoke up.

“Captain, don’t you think it’s a little suspicious?”

“Yeah.”

The men who were supposed to be there to intercept any possible intruders were nowhere to be seen.

The road to the basin was eerily quiet.

Despite feeling eerie, he didn’t slow down as he climbed the mountain range that contained the basin.

“Captain, I can see a black smoke……!”

He sped up as he saw black smoke rising in the sky.

The basin has become definitely closer.

Beyond the mountain range, he saw a flat terrain. An imposing building, that appeared to be the stronghold of Fire Ant was ablaze.

A structure large enough to fill the entire flatland.

The entire thing was burning, creating a sea of fire.

Daylon’s brow furrowed.

“Rick, Kus. You two search for the mastermind who started this. The rest of you go to the site and look for Fire Ant.”

“Got it.”

Daylon propelled himself toward the basin.

As fast as he could.

When he arrived at the base of the hideout, scorching flames burned through his skin.

“Ice armor!”

A team member from the Magic Tower made a suit of ice for them.

“This should last for at least half an hour.”

“Okay. Everyone move around and find Fire Ant. He’s missing his left little finger, so focus on that.”

Daylon immediately sprang into action.

He made his way around the largest structure, examining the charred corpses.

Those who hadn’t survived the inferno.

Most were charred to nothing but bones.

He wondered how long they’d been out here.

Although already charred, there were several bodies on what appeared to be a dining table. Two small children and what appeared to be an adult.

Expensive-looking trinkets were strewn about.

“Fire Ant’s children and wife?”

After searching the immediate area, he didn’t find any bodies with missing pinky finger.

This can only mean one of two things.

Someone had either kidnapped Fire Ant, or he’d managed to escape on his own.

“Rebecca!”

“Yes.”

“Report the current situation to headquarters, then stay out here and look for any sign of whoever did this.”

“Copy that.”

Daylon moved across the ground towards the mountain side, he had to find whoever was responsible for this.

“Captain!”

He heard Kus’s voice not far behind him.

“What’s going on?”

“I think I found the corpse of Fire Ant.”

A night where the moonlight was obscured by clouds.

A crowd of hooded figures gather around Count Lebern.

Owl symbols painted on their cloaks.

“Sir Brown Bear.”

“Kill them all.”

With Brown Bear’s chilling command, the group moved towards the mansion, their hands outstretched, various types of magic created.

From fire and ice, to wind and earth.

It only took a few seconds for the mansion to collapse.

“Aaaahhhhh!”

“It’s a siege!”

The knights who had been stationed outside the mansion drew their swords and rushed in to confront the members of the Magnes Organization.

But they were outmatched.

The Magnes members were able to completely overwhelm and crush the knights with their superior strength.

They snapped their necks, and drove their swords into the hearts.

Splattering blood and screams echoed throughout the mansion.

“Ack!”

“Spa…. Spare me!”

“Stop them, stop them at all costs!”

Brown Bear walked slowly.

Just as he was about to enter the mansion, someone grabbed his ankle and made him jerk to a halt.

“Stop… right there.”

Brown Bear raised his hand and slammed it down on the knight’s face. He grinned at the sound of shattering bones and continued on his way.

*Thump!*

*Thud!*

Inside the mansion, members of the Magnes organization killed every person in sight.

Regardless of age or gender.

They slaughtered them mercilessly.

Brown Bear followed the path his men had made for him up. He reached the second floor. When he arrived, he found Count Lebern.

With his wife and children by his side.

When Count Lebern noticed the gaze of Brown Bear on his family, he spread his arms.

“Don’t touch my family.”

“The dog is barking.”

Brown Bear shook his head, and his men approached and dragged out the wife and children. The men waited for his orders.

“Sell the women to the brothel, brand the children as slaves, and take them to the auction house.”

“Oh, no!”

The men blocked Count Lebern’s lunge. They pinned his arms down and forced him to kneel on the floor.

“Please…… please don’t touch my family.”

Brown Bear walked in front of the tearful Count Lebern and crouched low.

“I know. Who told you to cut me off?”

“I’m sorry…… I won’t do it again…….”

Brown Bear’s thick palm slapped Count Lebern’s cheek.

*Smack!*

The Count’s lip burst open and blood flowed.

“Sorry? Sorry now? Look at the way this son of a bitch talks?”

*Smack!*

*Smack!*

*Bam!*

“Arrgghhh…..”

Brown Bear grabbed a handful of Count Lebern’s bloodied hair and lifted him up.

“Think of what you’ve done.”

“……Uuuggghhh.”

“You took the money we gave you, and then you cut us off when we asked for help?”

“……Ugh.”

“Why? Because Magnes is under heavy attack. Did you think we’d just collapse and disappear?”

“……I’m sorry.”

“Forget it. Give me the name of the asshole who started this entire thing.”

“……Duke.”

“The asshole who took our money and became a duke did this?”

Brown Bear tossed Count Lebern aside and rose to his feet.

“Sort this out, we are moving to the Duchy now.”

“Understood.”

Leaving his subordinates to clean up behind Count Lebern, Brown Bear exited the mansion and pulled out a cigar.

Placing it in his mouth and preparing to light it.

He looked around, frowning at the strange sensation that prickled his skin. He turned his head toward the source of the tingling sensation.

There was a flash of light.

“Everyone, get out of here!”

With Brown Bear’s shout, an explosion erupted from the light.

*Boom!*

Huge flames swept through the mansion.

Along with it, a group of unidentifiable people leapt out.

“Kill everyone except for Brown Bear!”

“Waaaaaaaah!”

The men shouted and stormed off.

Brown Bear charged forward, clenching the cigar in his mouth. He grabbed one of the men running from the front.

He snapped his neck with his thick hand.

*Snap!*

A tattoo of a clown was painted on the limp neck.

“Pierre…… you fucking bastards.”

Concentrating mana in both hands, Brown Bear swung wildly forward. The bear’s claws, made of mana, swept through the enemies.

*Swipe!*

“Aaah!”

“There’s Brown Bear!”

Looking at the charging enemies, Brown Bear shouted to his remaining men.

“For the sake of the organization’s revenge, wipe out all of those Pierres!”

Brown Bear continued to run toward the enemies.

Slaying the oncoming enemies, he searched for the leader of the group.

Just as Magnes had three captains.

Pierre also had three captains.

He knew them all by sight.

“There you are!”

Brown Bear moved toward Pierre’s captain at the back of the group. He filled both hands with mana and swung his fists.

*Boom!*

*Wham!*

A crashing sound with each blow.

Pierre’s captain sneered and dodged the attack. Brown Bear grinned with madness at his enemy’s audacity.

“I’ll kill you.”

And just as he was about to pounce.

The head of Pierre’s captain exploded.

“……!”

Someone placed a hand on Brown Bear’s shoulder, making him feel uncomfortable.

“Stop.”

The familiar voice made Brown Bear shudder. Turning his head, he saw a man with slicked-back red hair.

The boss of the Magnes.

Caius Badiola.

Brown Bear bowed nervously and stood at attention.

“Boss, this is….”

“I have a job for you.”

“Just tell me what to do.

“Go to Burning Hell and turn yourself in.”

Having sorted out the affairs in the Ravino Kingdom, he returned back to Burning Hell.

Most of his time was spent trying to come up with a new plan and direction based on what he had gathered so far.

“Vice Captain, here’s your coffee.”

Lifting the coffee Hugo had brought, he thanked him and took a sip as he rose from his seat.

Opening the window and getting some air, letting the breeze wash over him, as he organized his thoughts.

The information that he had gained from the game.

The present twisted with a distorted future.

It was hard to distinguish between what was real and what was fake, and to predict where the future would lead.

The biggest obstacle was the flow of events.

The year-long war against Magnes was coming to an end in less than half a year.

What happens next.

The fall of Magnes and the rise of the Oberg Empire.

He needed to prepare for that.

“Redin!”

He heard Seria’s frantic voice.

Turning, he saw Seria approaching, swallowing hard and speaking carefully.

“An urgent message from the Captain.”

“What is it?”

“They said Fire Ant is dead.”

It was something he had expected.

“Is that so?”

“And one more.”

“Could it be related to Brown Bear?”

Seria’s eyes widened.

“Yes…… ah. Brown bear contacted us about turning himself in.”

He nodded lightly.

Brown Bear turning himself in.

He couldn’t just turn himself in unless he was insane. He must have been acting on Caius’s orders.

“Ask him for a meeting.”

“We don’t know what trap he might have dug.”

The reason for the request was obvious.

Someone Magnes wanted to protect, and it was clear that he had embroidered Brown Bear to protect that person.

The only descendant to carry the Emperor’s blood.

Himus von Oberg.

The target of Pierre, Hekan, and the Darkness Seven, and the reason Magnes is under such intense attack.

A justification for the resurrection of the Oberg Empire.

Caius embroidered Brown Bear to protect Himus from his enemies. If he turned himself in with brown bear, he would naturally be imprisoned in a dungeon, away from the scrutiny and threats of his enemies.

“It’s okay.”

If he use this situation to their advantage.

Perhaps he can catch Caius.

“I have a plan.”
