CH 19
Helen Silvesta watched as the surroundings abruptly changed at the magician’s gesture.
“Humph, a predictable illusion magic.”
She had learned that the level of illusion magic generally depends on how similar the changing illusion is to reality. The closer the illusion is to reality, the higher the level of illusion magic.
The space, which had been a shabby shop until just now, transformed into the Imperial Academy she attended.
She was standing in the central hallway of the Imperial Academy, heading towards the undergraduate lecture hall.
The floor was made of marble, and golden quill pens, the symbol of the Imperial Academy, were affixed along the walls.
Helen traced the symbol with her hand. The cold touch of gold was vivid.
“Ho?”
It seemed to be quite a high-level illusion magic, deceiving not only her sight but also her sense of smell and touch.
But that was all.
“For an illusion magician tucked away in a corner, you’re quite skilled?”
She had heard that Max, that illusion magician, was also a considerably talented magician. If he hadn’t gone down the wrong path of illusion magic, she might have recommended him to work for her family.
Since he could create an illusion so identical to reality, that woman must have come here to train. She must have simulated various wars and visualized battles through this illusion to gain experience beforehand.
Her abnormally high win rate was clearly due to this.
But this wasn’t enough to find her weakness.
‘If it was just for training, she wouldn’t have run away from me.’
There’s definitely something she’s hiding from me.
I don’t know what it is.
This man only showed her the illusion of the academy.
“Hey, illusion magician. This isn’t enough. I want to see something concrete that can expose Yuris’s weakness? At least give me a clue!”
But there was no reply.
“Hey, illusion magician!”
What the hell did this damn illusion magician do to me?
Helen frowned and looked around.
She had learned at the Imperial Academy that because illusion magic is not perfectly real, it can be dispelled at any time if one is aware of its existence.
-That’s why illusion magic is called the lowest-level magic. Even the most powerful magician has no combat ability. It’s easily dispelled. So, students, if you are subjected to illusion magic, calmly look around you.
The professor cast illusion magic on the undergraduates, and half of the students broke free from the illusion.
It took Helen only three minutes to break free from the professor’s illusion magic. Even if the magician here is talented, it wouldn’t be any higher than that.
‘It’s illusion magic, so there must be a gap I can exploit to dispel it.’
She knew that illusion magic couldn’t harm her anyway. So she should slowly look around and find a way to escape.
-Free wind and land of discipline, come forth and fulfill the contract.
Helen summoned a spirit.
‘For exploring the surroundings, a wind spirit or an earth spirit would be best, wouldn’t they?’
But the spirit didn’t respond.
“……What?”
Even when she chanted the contracted incantation again…
…
The spirit didn’t appear.
“This shouldn’t be happening?”
Even in the illusion created by the professor, the spirit responded to her call. But why now?
“Is this man’s illusion stronger than the professor’s?”
Even if he wasn’t an illusion magician, he was a professor-level magician. A magician with that level of magical understanding should be able to use magic from other schools to a high level.
To be better than that professor…
She had never heard of an illusion that prevented the use of abilities.
“Damn it, could it be that he’s in cahoots with Yuris…?”
She trusted that man too easily.
Damn it.
She had overlooked the possibility that he might already be in league with Yuris.
No wonder things went so smoothly.
To dare touch Silvesta…
“Once I get out of this illusion, I’ll immediately catch this guy and throw him in jail for insulting a noble.”
Rotting in prison will make him realize whose side he should be on.
That’s when…
“Oh? What, isn’t that Miss Silvesta?”
A group of undergraduates approached her. They were undergraduates she didn’t even know existed.
They must all be puppets created by the illusion. The form of illusion magic is determined based on the user’s memories and the caster’s memories.
She ignored the undergraduates, or rather, the punks, who were swaggering towards her, and looked for a flaw in the illusion.
But these illusion puppets didn’t seem to be willing to give up on her easily.
“Get lost. Illusion puppets.”
“What’s this woman saying?”
“She’s calling us illusions?”
“Kukuk, this woman must have finally gone crazy! I would have too, though?”
“She lost her renowned spirit sensitivity, so it’s only natural.”
The punks were muttering amongst themselves. They weren’t worth dealing with. They weren’t real anyway.
They were probably illusion guardians that appeared to prevent her from finding a flaw in the illusion.
“Get out of the way. I don’t have time to deal with you.”
Just as she was about to pass them, a punk-looking guy grabbed her wrist.
“Hey, don’t ignore us. We’re talking to you.”
This guy dares? A mere illusion dares to touch Helen Silvesta’s hand?
“You brats! Do you know who I am?”
Normally, she could easily drive away such low-level humans with spirit magic, but now, unable to use spirit magic because the spirits weren’t responding to her contract, Helen couldn’t use spirit magic.
“Of course we do. A failing undergraduate abandoned by Silvesta.”
“What?”
“You completely lost your spirit sensitivity, and your spirit magic is useless, so your academy acceptance is gone, but you’re a failing student with an enormous amount of pride. Didn’t you hear?”
“What are you…?”
“Silvesta dumped you. Because you’re trash who only wastes money and tarnishes the family’s honor.”
The punk was spouting nonsense. Her family would never abandon her. She was the precious daughter of the Duke of Silvesta.
She summoned a spirit to shake off the punk’s hand.
-Fulfill the contract immediately!
But, as before, the spirit didn’t appear. What came back was…
“Khahahaha!”
“Kkkkk!”
“Man, this is hilarious. Look at her still trying to use spirit language.”
The punks’ mockery. Helen’s face turned crimson at the mockery she had never received before.
It was a humiliation she had never experienced. This was the first time.
Who dares to mock the young lady of the Silvesta family? Their neck would be severed the moment they did.
“Th, this…”
Was it because it was something she had never experienced before? Even knowing it was an illusion, the humiliation didn’t disappear.
“If my father knew you were doing this…”
Slap!
“Kyaak!”
A burning pain on her face, and her head snapped around.
“You’re wearing ragged clothes because you were abandoned by your family, yet you still think you’re a noble lady, huh?”
One side of her face burned. Did I get slapped?
She couldn’t understand. How dare they slap the young lady of Silvesta?
It burned. She felt a physical pain on her face, a sensation she shouldn’t feel if it was an illusion.
Didn’t they say that illusion magic couldn’t harm the opponent’s body? They definitely said it was physically safe. Why do I hurt?
While questions about illusion magic swirled in her head, her head turned, and she finally saw her clothes.
Helen was wearing the tattered clothes she so despised.
“Wh…?”
“Do you understand your situation now? You’re an abandoned orphan.”
“Your father abandoned you.”
“Th, this can’t be…”
Seeing her trembling in shock, the punks left.
“Tsk, this is boring.”
“Let’s go.”
“If you’ve come to your senses, drop out and get lost. We don’t want to see someone like you sullying our academy.”
The punks left. Helen, clutching her cheek, sat down and muttered.
“This is an illusion.”
A very vicious illusion created by the magician on Yuris’s orders, an illusion created to torment her.
She didn’t know how much the magician was paid by Yuris, but she would never forget that he dared to inflict such humiliation on her.
“Magician, I will get my revenge on you, so just you wait.”
Helen bit her lower lip, gritting her teeth as she stood up. Her left cheek, where the man had hit her, still burned, but she couldn’t just stay like this. She had to find a flaw in the illusion and meet the magician again. She had to confront him properly. She had to tell him to hand over information about Yuris if he didn’t want to die at the hands of the Silvesta family.
“It’s an illusion created by a man who has never even been to the Imperial Academy. There must be many places where he hasn’t recreated it properly.”
Helen carefully searched her surroundings. She wanted to take off her trashy, tattered uniform immediately, but she didn’t have a hobby of walking around naked, even in an illusion. Anyway, once she realized it was an illusion, the uniform would return to normal.
As Helen was looking around, she heard…
“He… Helen… Are… are you okay?”
A weak voice that drained her energy.
“Who are you?”
It was that nerd. That nerdy loner from a humble background who couldn’t even wear a proper uniform. That man dared to call her by her name. Helen, not Silvesta.
A feeling like insects crawling all over her body made her disgusted.
Annoying. Annoying.
What is everyone doing right now? Since entering the magician’s illusion, many people have dared to defy her.
They say she was abandoned by Silvesta. They say she lost her spirit sensitivity. It’s all just an illusion.
How dare those illusion puppets…
“Who do you think you are to call me by my name?”
“He… Helen, why are you like this? We were good, weren’t we?”
“What?”
What is this nerd talking about?
“Do… don’t you remember? We were the best couple recognized by the undergraduates.”
“What are you saying?”
A couple? Me and you?
“Stop saying things that make me uncomfortable.”
“You really don’t remember.”
She turned her head to get away from this nerd. But the nerd grabbed her hand as she tried to turn her body.
“Where are you going? We have a date.”
“Get lost! I’m annoyed!”
She needed to return to reality, so why were these pests bothering her?
“You’re still denying reality? You’re drunk on the dreams of the past and forgetting reality? Okay, I’ll make it real for you.”
“…What?”
Helen couldn’t follow the nerd’s words. The nerd took out a small crystal ball, a crystal ball that stored videos. And in that crystal ball…
“Mmm, mmph… There, it feels good…”
A video of Helen with her hands tied, her breasts being fondled, was playing.
“Th, this is…”
“Do you remember now?”
A terrible feeling of disgust washed over her. How dare he make a false video to humiliate her? I’ll kill him. I’ll kill him. I’ll kill him right now. This man. And that magician.
“How dare you! To make fun of Silvesta…”
That’s when…
“This won’t do.”
The nerd suddenly approached and grabbed her breasts tightly.
“Kyaak! Wh, what are you…”
Helen, unable to use the power of the spirits, was just an ordinary noble young lady. Even a nerdy man had the strength to overpower her.
“It seems you’ve lost your memory, so I’ll help you remember.”
The nerd’s touch became increasingly blatant.
“We were good, weren’t we?”
“Don’t… do that…”
Something felt strange. Why?
