Chapter 31: Home - II
She hailed a cab.
Victoria initially did try to walk her way home but that seemed to be impossible given that every inch of my body to be in pain and her eyes were on the verge of closing share given that she was tired and it were the medicines that were probably make me feel like she was going to fall down in the middle of the road and that was not the safest option.
She really hoped that her father had some money in his pocket or she would pull out her first where she had been secretly saving money and pay the cab driver.
Finally, in the dead of the night, one of the cabs stopped at her but only for the driver to do a double take at her appearance.
"You a ghost or something?" He said the first thing after stopping the vehicle and looking at her. "Tell me who is the President of the country right now!"
President of the country? Victoria answered him and the man unlocked the doors. Within seconds they were off on the road again but this time to her home.
****
"What?" He barked. "It's the night girl, I am prepared to go home and you're telling me you can't pay me right now?"
Victoria gulped before she explained again. "I don't have cash on me right now. I left my wallet in the hospital but I have cash in the apartment and give me 10 minutes. I will come back as the first thing to pay you."
The man scoffed. "As if I believe you. What are you take me for a fucking idiot?"
She shook her head. Desperately she said, " Give me five minutes and I'll come back with the money. With your tip as well. The sooner you let me go, sooner I'll come back with your money."
When the man reluctantly said yes, Victoria shot out of the vehicle and into their apartment building where, with the renewed energy, she climbed up the stairs since as always, the left was not working and stopped only when she was in front of her apartment.
For a minute, just to calm her heartbeat that was almost on a race track, Victoria stood in front of the apartment door with her hand on her chest.
She frowned when she heard it. Actually, she frowned when she heard nothing.
Why did she not hear anything from her parents apartment when she was in the hospital, when she had been kidnapped and gone for almost 2 days at a point? Why were they not bustling around and trying to come back to the hospital at the earliest? What were you doing?
What are they making her another sibling?
Victoria quickly Shook her head and threw it out of her mind. There was no way that could happen. Not because her parents did not want to know the child, but because they could not afford one.
Then what the hell was going on? Why was the one moving around in the apartment? Were they not at home?
The sudden blare of the horn made Victoria jam and remember that she still had to pay the taxi man.
Almost instantly, she opens at the door to the apartment only to come to a standstill at the site in front of her.
She got when she felt the presence of someone behind her too. The situation could not turn out to be any worse.
