The Curse of Time (Harry Potter Fanfic)

Chapter 86: First Horcrux

Pov Evelyn,

In the past,

"So you took your mother's tiara, ran away, and hid it before being murdered by the Bloody Baron. Then, when you finally told someone where it was—which turned out to be Voldy—he corrupted the tiara with dark magic?"

I was speaking to the ghost of Helena Ravenclaw, Rowena Ravenclaw's daughter. It's fascinating to talk to a ghost who harbors as much knowledge as she does. Moreover, she and the Bloody Baron are the only ghosts who can demystify the image we have of the four founders.

Godric was apparently a fool who would throw himself into any dangerous situation just for glory. Salazar was quite wise but believed that the wizarding society should consist only of those with talent. Helga, as described in the books, was a kind woman willing to accept everyone and give second chances. Rowena, on the other hand, believed that if you were not intelligent and made no effort to cultivate yourself, you didn't deserve the privilege of education.

Salazar is often rebuked for being intolerant, but Rowena was worse than him, according to Helena. She claimed the cause of Rowena's harshness was the diadem, which is why Helena stole it to try to destroy it. Unfortunately, she never had the chance because she was murdered by the Bloody Baron.

Interestingly, the blood on the ghostly form of the Bloody Baron is a reminder of his crime—killing the person he cared about most. Without him, Helena would still be alive.

If you're wondering where I got this information, it came directly from the Baron himself, but it took a long time before he finally decided to speak.

Back to the present,

I held the tiara with a levitation charm after multiple failed attempts to destroy it.

We were heading to Dumbledore's office because such information could not be kept secret.

"Ah, Evelyn and Miss Saturn, how are you today?"

"It's not time to exchange pleasantries because Voldemort has created a Horcrux."

Dumbledore's attention was immediately captured by the gravity of this statement.

"I suspected he might have done so, but I hadn't found any evidence until now. How can you be so sure?"

I explained my conversation with Helena and how, when I tried to destroy the diadem, my blade had simply bounced off it.

"Yet it doesn't seem strong enough to withstand a sword."

"Let me explain what a Horcrux is, Mary. Essentially, when you kill someone, you can split your soul and embed a piece of it into an object or person. Performing such a blasphemous act prevents you from dying, even if your body is destroyed. The pharaohs of ancient Egypt were said to use Horcruxes."

"But surely there must be a way to destroy them—after all, we don't see any pharaohs around today."

"Yes, there are ways, but most of them involved charm-like spells that were lost when Merlin declared such magic to be dark and forbidden. While it was indeed dark magic, it also included the means to destroy Horcruxes. Now, the only known methods are using basilisk venom or an object forged from goblin-made metal that has been imbued with the venom."

Of course, I will imbue my katana with the venom of the basilisk from the Chamber of Secrets, ensuring it becomes a weapon capable of destroying Horcruxes.

"The real problem is figuring out how many Horcruxes Voldy has made. The maximum is seven—exceeding that number would destabilize his soul and likely kill him. But we aren't sure if he stopped at that limit."

"An ancient Hogwarts professor likely explained to Tom how to create Horcruxes, but the memory was corrupted because Horace was ashamed of what he had done. In my opinion, the original memory should reveal how many he created."

Dumbledore reacted to my statement, clearly seeing the potential to uncover vital information. This gave us a way to determine the number of Horcruxes.

"For now, it's not the most pressing issue. We can search for others in the future, but there's no urgency. Voldy is currently too weak to pose a real threat. The immediate concern is the Heir."

And so, we left the diadem in Dumbledore's office, where it would remain safe until we could find a way to destroy it.
