Chapter 88: Tragedy
Pov General,
The students headed to the Quidditch field, while others who had arrived early were already in the stands, patiently waiting for the confrontation between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.
The match was expected to be very tight, as it would largely depend on how much time Harry had before catching the Golden Snitch. Few believed that the Ravenclaw Seeker had any chance of claiming it before him.
The stands gradually filled until they were packed, with everyone eager for the match to begin.
It took longer than usual, but finally, both teams arrived on the field—though something felt off.
"Where is Mary?"
Evelyn was the first to notice her girlfriend's absence and began to frown. The morale of the Ravenclaw team took a hit with the disappearance of their star Keeper.
The two captains stood in front of each other and shook hands.
As the players mounted their brooms, something unnatural happened. Professor McGonagall rushed to the center of the pitch with a parchment in hand.
"Quidditch game is canceled."
"What? But you can't cancel!" Oliver Wood protested, his voice filled with disbelief.
"I'm perfectly entitled to it, Mr. Wood," McGonagall replied sharply.
Her expression turned severe as she raised her wand and cast a charm to amplify her voice.
"All students are requested to return immediately to their common rooms."
Evelyn's sense of foreboding grew with each word the professor spoke, her heart pounding faster and stronger.
"There's been another attack."
Evelyn barely heard what McGonagall said after that. The only thing she knew was that she bolted down the steps of the bleachers and raced as fast as her legs would carry her toward the castle.
"Please don't let it be true. Please don't let her be the victim," she whispered under her breath, fear clawing at her chest.
Back at the Quidditch field, Ron walked toward the team as if he had been called, even though he hadn't.
"You should follow me too, Mr. Weasley."
Harry, who had been called alongside Ron, was really wondering what was going on and why they had been summoned.
Harry had a feeling he was still being blamed for the new attack.
Walking through the corridors of the castle, one could feel a strange smell lingering in the air.
Once they arrived at the infirmary, she showed them Hermione's petrified body.
"We found her like this, holding a mirror in her hand."
Ron and Harry were shocked to see their friend petrified and wondered if it was a dream.
"In this attack, there were other victims: Miss Deauclaire of Ravenclaw, Peeves, the Bloody Baron, and some other phantoms and..."
Before she could name the last victim, they heard the sound of water dripping onto the floor.
Harry and Ron turned their heads toward the source of the sound, where the small stature of Evelyn stood. The water they heard came from her hand, which was clenched so tightly that she had hurt herself, but she didn't care.
Before her stood the body of Mary, petrified, with a look of regret, anger, and resignation. Her body was in a dreadful state, with cuts all over, one just a few centimeters from her eyes. Her outfit was more than damaged.
It gave the impression that she had fought something before being petrified.
Ron and Harry were most afraid of the look in Evelyn's eyes.
Anger, grief, resentment, impotence—these emotions were all visible in her eyes.
Another thing to notice was that her pupils glowed a beautiful blue, hidden beneath her emotions, while her eyes dripped with tears of blood that mixed with the already present blood on her hands.
Blue mini-flashes flickered around her from time to time as the pressure she was exerting grew heavier.
And then she left, without looking at the body of her girlfriend. No one stopped her.
