The God of Ice and Fire at Hogwarts

Chapter 185: Boggart

While the third-year Gryffindor and Slytherin students were attending their Care of Magical Creatures class, the fourth-year Gryffindors and Slytherins were together in Defense Against the Dark Arts with Professor Lupin.

In this class, Professor Lupin didn't teach in the classroom. Instead, he led the students to the staff room.

"Today, we have a practical lesson!" Professor Lupin said as he reached the back of the staff room, turned around, and addressed the students.

Behind him was an old, rickety cabinet that repeatedly banged against the back wall, as if something was trapped inside.

Seeing the cabinet shaking, Irwin Foley, who was walking on the left side of Lynn, asked, "Professor, what's in this cabinet?"

The students in the staff room were all fourth-year wizards. Although they had two ineffective teachers during this period, under Professor Green's guidance in their first year and through self-study over the past two years, they had mastered some self-defense magic to some extent.

Therefore, they weren't afraid of whatever creature was in the cabinet but were curious about what it might be.

Professor Lupin smiled and glanced at the Gryffindor and Slytherin students. His gaze finally rested on Lynn: "What's in the cabinet is a Boggart. Can anyone tell me what a Boggart is?"

When Professor Lupin looked at him, Lynn smiled faintly and answered, "A Boggart is a dark creature that can transform into the thing a person fears most. It likes dark, enclosed spaces, like cabinets. Some even hide in grandfather clocks. It also has two weaknesses: it doesn't know what to do when there are many people in front of it, and it's afraid of laughter."

Upon hearing Lynn's answer, Professor Lupin's eyes widened in surprise.

Although Boggarts were creatures that third-year students were supposed to face, and he was only giving a basic lesson for those young wizards who had missed Defense Against the Dark Arts for two years, he hadn't expected Lynn to have such thorough knowledge of Boggarts.

It was almost as if Lynn had already encountered one.

"Exactly! Lynn, may I call you that? You explained it perfectly. You even described some characteristics of the Boggart that aren't in the textbooks! For this reason, I want to give you ten points for Gryffindor!" Professor Lupin said, smiling.

Lynn's answer saved Professor Lupin the trouble of explaining the process of dealing with dark creatures like Boggarts. He immediately introduced the spell that could contain such creatures.

"The spell to repel a Boggart is very simple, but it requires great willpower. You see, what really defeats a Boggart is laughter. What you need to do is force it to become something that you find funny."

"Let's first practice the spell without wands. Repeat after me: 'Riddikulus!'"

Professor Lupin said the spell in a calm tone. However, no one found it amusing at that moment, and everyone repeated the spell seriously: "Riddikulus!"

Professor Lupin nodded with satisfaction. As expected of fourth-year students, their pronunciation was excellent, even though it was the first time they had recited the spell.

The professor then focused on Lynn and said, "You go first, Lynn."

Lynn stepped forward and looked directly at the shaking cabinet.

After Lynn walked toward the cabinet, Professor Lupin directed the other students back to clear the space for Lynn.

The professor raised his wand, and a spark shot out, hitting the cabinet handle.

Immediately, the cabinet opened, and a shadowy figure emerged and fell to the ground.

Lynn instinctively took a step back and then cautiously eyed the figure lying on the floor. But soon, he froze in place.

He saw a girl with hair as white as snow fall to the ground in pain. Her wizard's robe was soaked in blood, and droplets of blood dotted her beautiful face. Her ice-blue eyes seemed to be filled with agony.

The girl appeared to be suffering greatly, her body convulsing intermittently, and the blood beneath her made her look horrifying.

The girl who appeared before Lynn now was, in fact, Irina, who had been tortured by the Cruciatus Curse in the Chamber of Secrets that day!

"Funny," Lynn muttered under his breath, turning his head to avoid looking at the scene he never wanted to relive. He raised his wand and cast a spell.

With a sharp sound, the blood from "Irina" disappeared, and with a burst of magic, her ears transformed into fluffy fox ears. A pair of ears sprouted from behind her, and her hands appeared to be covered in fluffy gloves. Long whiskers grew on her face, and snow-white hair spread across her body. She resembled a snow fox in the snowy mountains, and she raised her hands in front of her, attempting to make an expression that was meant to frighten people.

But now, instead of being scary, she appeared very cute.

When Lynn saw the transformation of "Irina," he was stunned again.

But the next moment, Lynn quickly pulled out a camera from his pocket, pointed it at "Irina," and pressed the shutter before swiftly returning the camera to his pocket.

Professor Lupin watched as Lynn returned to the group in silence. He also recognized that the girl transformed by the Boggart was the one who fought alongside Lynn on the train that day and conjured the full Patronus to repel the Dementors. She was a high-level witch.

Professor Lupin wasn't sure exactly what had happened to Lynn. What disturbed him most was seeing the girl lying in a pool of blood, but he understood that if Lynn didn't want to talk about it, it was better not to ask.

"Alright, next student, Irwin Foley, step up!" Professor Lupin said, looking at Irwin beside Lynn.

Irwin nodded respectfully to Professor Lupin and then stepped forward to face the Boggart.

Upon realizing that the wizard in front of it had changed, the Boggart transformed again. Soon, the image of a venomous snake with a skull's mouth appeared before Irwin, surrounded by thick mist.

It was like a Dark Mark!
