Chapter 184: Buckbeak and the Arrogant Malfoy
Hagrid was not surprised when Irina took the initiative to offer help. After all, he had seen how Irina behaved in the small world inside Newt's box.
"Come on, Irina! Let them see how you handle Buckbeak," Hagrid encouraged Irina. He removed the leather collar from one of the Hippogriffs named Buckbeak and brought him forward to Irina.
After studying with Newt Scamander during the summer holidays, Irina's knowledge of magical creatures was no less than Hagrid's. Therefore, Hagrid didn't give Irina much advice on how to interact with the winged beasts.
Moreover, with Irina's talent for magical animal affinity, even if she touched Buckbeak directly, he would likely respond with unusual docility.
Under the watchful eyes of the Gryffindor lions and the Slytherin snakes, Irina walked up to Buckbeak.
Upon noticing Irina's arrival, Buckbeak seemed quite pleased. He fidgeted a bit, as though anticipating something.
Irina's beautiful ice-blue eyes locked with Buckbeak's large orange ones as she bowed slightly.
Almost as soon as Irina made the bowing gesture, Buckbeak quickly bent his scaly front knees and performed a perfectly standard bow.
Seeing this, Irina smiled. She took a step forward, extending her hand and gently rubbing Buckbeak's head.
Buckbeak closed his eyes and nudged his head against Irina, as if enjoying the touch.
Buckbeak softly chirped, bent down, and nudged Irina's leg with his back, as though inviting her to ride.
Before Hagrid could say anything to Irina, she turned around and excitedly mounted Buckbeak.
"Irina, you can ask Buckbeak to take you for a flight!" Hagrid said happily, also delighted to see Irina and Buckbeak getting along so harmoniously.
Hearing this, Irina waved happily at the nearby Gryffindor cubs and Slytherin snakes, then gave Buckbeak a gentle pat on the head.
Buckbeak immediately spread his three-meter-long wings. After Irina had securely grasped his neck, he leapt into the air and soared to a height of a hundred meters.
Buckbeak let out a joyful cry, flew around the meadow, and reluctantly began to prepare to land.
"Buckbeak, could you take me for a flight around Hogwarts Castle?" Irina asked, approaching Buckbeak's large ear and whispering.
Upon hearing Irina's words, Buckbeak's eyes lit up. He flapped his wings vigorously, rising higher into the sky. Then, he took Irina and flew toward Hogwarts Castle.
On the meadow below, Harry and the others watched as Buckbeak flew off with Irina and couldn't help but worry about her safety.
Hagrid, too, was surprised when Buckbeak ignored his instructions and took off, but he felt relieved when he saw Irina calmly encouraging Buckbeak.
He understood that even if Buckbeak hurt himself, he wouldn't harm Irina, a sweet young witch with a unique affinity for magical creatures.
After about ten minutes, Buckbeak landed back in the meadow with Irina.
Irina jumped off Buckbeak's back, still exhilarated. Though she wished she could keep flying, she knew it was time to give other young wizards a chance.
After seeing Irina return safely to the meadow, the other young wizards also became excited.
Who wouldn't want to fly in the sky atop a fierce magical creature like Buckbeak if it were safe?
Harry, Ron, and Hermione quickly advanced. Harry chose Buckbeak, while Ron and Hermione found the other two Hippogriffs.
However, when everyone began interacting with the Hippogriffs, they realized that communicating with these creatures wasn't as easy as it had been for Irina.
Many of the young wizards failed to earn the Hippogriffs' recognition. No matter how hard they tried, they could only retreat and watch helplessly as the others who succeeded were taken to the skies.
Not long after, Harry returned, riding Buckbeak, and greeted Irina happily.
"How was it? Isn't it fun to get along with these cute magical creatures?" Irina asked with a smile.
Upon hearing this, Harry scratched his head and looked at the fierce-looking Hippogriff beside him. It was hard for him to associate Buckbeak with cuteness.
Finally, Harry nodded and said, "Well, it's really interesting getting along with these fierce magical creatures."
While Irina was chatting with Harry, Malfoy also approached Buckbeak.
From Malfoy's perspective, if Harry could tame the Hippogriff, then he, Malfoy, could naturally do the same.
So, Malfoy bowed to Buckbeak, and the Hippogriff responded.
Seeing this, Malfoy immediately stepped closer and patted Buckbeak on the beak, looking triumphantly at Harry. "This is easy! I knew it had to be like this, since Potter can do it… I dare say you're not dangerous at all, are you, you big ugly beast?"
Malfoy, already a little distracted, didn't notice that Buckbeak's eyes were slowly growing colder as he continued to mock Harry.
However, Irina, who had been watching, noticed the change in Buckbeak's expression.
Seeing that Buckbeak was about to lash out with his claws at Malfoy, Irina immediately raised her wand without hesitation and shouted, "Expelliarmus!"
A burst of red light shot out at lightning speed, hitting the defenseless Malfoy in the back.
Malfoy was thrown forward by the disarming spell, which caused Buckbeak's claws, originally aimed at Malfoy's arm, to graze his back, leaving five bloody marks.
Buckbeak was not relieved after being insulted by Malfoy. He stretched out his head and tried to bite Malfoy.
But Irina quickly stepped forward and calmed Buckbeak down.
At that moment, the blood oozing from Malfoy's back had stained his wizard's robe red. Aside from being struck by Irina in first year, he had never suffered such an injury before.
