Chapter 51
Chapter 51: The Clowns Dance in Vain (Part 1)
Creak…
At the sound of the door opening, the boy looked up. He appeared to be around thirteen or fourteen years old, with blond hair, blue eyes, and a well-groomed appearance.
The boy’s name was Lukult Giolim Gildolq. He was the second prince, the son of King Orutas II of the Gildolq Kingdom.
After the execution of Orutas II and Casaldia, Lukult took advantage of the chaos to escape prison and fled to the neighboring Flastarl Empire.
“How did it go?”
Lukult asked the men who entered the room. His voice and expression were filled with strong determination.
There were three men: Sharis Rims, Galom Elran, and Miyum Logve, all in their early twenties.
They were the ones who had proposed rescuing Lukult, who was awaiting execution, and seeking support from the Flastarl Empire to rebuild the Gildolq Kingdom.
“We have been granted an audience tomorrow,”
one of them replied. Lukult smirked at the response.
“Good job,”
he said.
“We’ve cleared the first hurdle,”
he added.
“Yes. However, the Flastarl Empire has invaded our country multiple times. We must not let our guard down,”
one of his subordinates cautioned.
Lukult nodded at the words.
“I know. Emperor Ryubes III of the Flastarl Empire is not a man to be underestimated. He won’t help us regain power for free,”
he said.
“Yes. I wonder what he will demand…”
“Hmm, I’ve been thinking about that,”
Lukult replied.
“What do you mean?”
“The Zabeil Border Duke Territory,”
Lukult said.
At his words, the three men fell into deep thought.
“After this incident, the conflict with the Zabeil Border Duke Territory… no, with the regions has become decisive,”
Lukult continued.
The three nodded in agreement. Lukult, pleased by their lack of objection, continued speaking. He disliked being contradicted, and this was evident in his every action. The absence of opposition this time put him in a good mood, and he proceeded with his next words.
“At the very least, I cannot forgive what they did to our royal family. I won’t feel any pity for those who side with the Zabeil Border Duke,”
Lukult declared.
His words reflected the mindset of the central nobles, rooted in the discriminatory attitudes that were the core cause of the conflict between the central and regional powers.
“Your anger is justified, Your Highness. However, we should also prepare for other possibilities,”
Sharis said cautiously.
Lukult narrowed his eyes.
“Other possibilities?”
“Yes. In case the Flastarl Empire is not satisfied with just the cession of the Zabeil Border Duke Territory,”
Sharis explained.
“That’s true. But as things stand, I have no power. If the Flastarl Empire makes further demands, I won’t be able to refuse,”
Lukult said, slightly annoyed.
Sharis, seemingly anticipating this, continued without hesitation.
“Your Highness, issue a proclamation to the remaining nobles of the Gildolq Kingdom. If they learn that the Gildolq royal family has not fallen, they will surely rally to our cause,”
Sharis suggested.
“A proclamation… Indeed, it’s necessary to build our own forces,”
Lukult agreed.
“Yes. If we do that, even the Flastarl Empire won’t make unreasonable demands,”
Sharis added.
“That makes sense,”
Lukult said, showing understanding.
“Alright, I’ll start drafting the proclamation,”
he declared.
“If you permit, I will deliver the proclamation to the surviving central nobles,”
Sharis offered.
“Good. I also have many things to do to become king. This is the first step,”
Lukult said.
“Thank you!!”
Sharis bowed in response.
“Galom, Miyum, while I deliver the proclamation, take care of His Highness,”
Sharis instructed.
The two nodded.
“Your Highness, please proceed with drafting the proclamation,”
Sharis said.
“Alright, understood,”
Lukult replied with a serious expression.
The three bowed and exited the room.
After closing the door, the three headed to their own room. Once inside, they exchanged glances and began speaking in hushed tones, as if engaged in a secret discussion.
“Well, everything is going according to plan,”
one of them said.
“Yes, Demitul and Sosua will likely start drafting their own proclamations soon,”
another added.
“It’s all part of King Jilvol’s plan,”
the third remarked.
“That’s just how it is. Who would have thought of letting the prince and princess run wild? Even if they fail, Zabeil won’t suffer any losses,”
the first said.
“That’s what makes King Jilvol so terrifying. The harder they try, the more support the Gildolq royal family loses,”
the second added.
“It’s a shame we won’t get to see Lukult’s end, but make sure to deliver my revenge for me,”
Sharis said.
The other two nodded.
Their expressions were filled with unmistakable hatred.
