The Help Club President is a Demon Lord

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Phoenix Down

The next day, even before the sun was up, everyone from the Help Club was there at the school gate. They were wearing their P.E. uniforms, this time using their sweat jackets and jogging pants. Taida still wasn’t around so the three girls were crouching on the ground while waiting.

"What did you eat for breakfast, Mimi-san?"

Angelie was touching her belly.

"I had one slice of bread. How about you, Angelie-san?"

"What? That's all you ate? Well… I had, um, one cup noodle. The small sized one! A-anyway, how about you Sanaka-san?"

Angelie turned towards Sanaka. Aside from crouching, Sanaka had her head hanging down.

"Don't talk to me… I'm a dead person with no soul living inside as I haven't had anything to eat…"

"Hey, we're going to run. You need to eat something or you'll collapse!"

Angelie reached out to Sanaka's shoulder.

"I had to choose… between sleeping or cooking… Of course, I chose to sleep…"

"Here, eat this."

Kiba handed Sanaka a piece of anpan, a sweet roll bread with red bean paste filling.

"My father made this earlier—"

Sanaka grabbed it instantly and finished it in a snap.

"Are there more?!"

"That would defeat the purpose of dieting…"

Sanaka hung her head down again.

"I thought you were a knight in shining armor… You're just a minion of that Demon Lord in the end…"

(Well, you're not far off about that. At least, before it was like that.)

Taida finally arrived.

"I'm sorry Senpai! I forgot to wake up earlier. I was busy finishing my game last night."

"Take this seriously! We're doing it for you, remember?"

Akuma shouted at the first-year student. Taida then bowed profusely at everyone.

After a few more words of lecture from Akuma, everyone started to jog. Their goal was to circle around the whole campus two times. That would amount to almost 2 kilometers.

A few minutes passed and everyone was gasping for air, except for Mimi. She led everyone in front, then she was followed by Kiba, Angelie and Akuma. Far behind them were Sanaka and Taida.

"Hey… damn Demon Lord… Why do we also… have to do this…?"

Angelie had a hard time talking while also trying to breath.

"Yeah… This seems… unnecessary…"

Kiba was the same.

"Fools… Of course… we have to… This will serve… as advertisement… for our club… and by extension… exposure for me…! See the students… coming in early… for school…? They'll see that… the Help Club… helps students… and gives… their all…"

Akuma has his hands hanging in front of him as he was jogging. But his shortness of breath could not stop his long-winded speech. His inner thoughts were hidden by how he looked.

(That's not the full reason we are doing this. I needed the exercise, and if I can drag every one of you with my suffering, then much better! It can also be my payback for all the punches I received from that fake Saint. But damn, all this running is hard. I don't want to do this anymore…)

"I am afraid this isn't running. What we are doing is just jogging. Do not kid yourself."

Mimi spoke from ahead of Akuma.

(How the hell did she hear me? I'm not even talking out loud!)

"I am from the elven clan; I can hear when someone wants to quit when he's having a very hard time."

"That's nonsense…, we can't use… any magic… in this world…!"

Shouting made it even more difficult for Akuma to breath, as he was already out of air.

"Of course, what I said wasn't to be taken seriously. I can't hear your thoughts. But judging from how you are looking right now, you really are about to collapse, which means you'd want to stop—"

Mimi, Angelie and Kiba heard a loud thud behind them. When they looked at what it was, it was Akuma who had collapsed on the ground.

---

When Akuma came to, he was staring at the ceiling of a room. He looked around and realized he was lying down at the nurse's office in the school building.

"What a pathetic Demon Lord you are. Always getting sick or something."

Angelie was sitting beside his bed.

"What the hell happened? And why are YOU here?"

"You collapsed. And since it happened during a club activity, I had to talk to the teachers explaining what exactly transpired. Then they asked me to look after your sorry state. Why am I always burdened by your incompetence?"

Angelie closed her eyes and shook her head. She then stood up.

"Since you're awake, bring yourself to class. I'm going on ahead."

"Wait…"

Angelie paused and looked at Akuma.

"What?"

"Did other students see what happened?"

"Yeah. Pathetic, right? Your plan backfires again. Also, we told Futoi-kun that we'll continue tomorrow and that it's not his fault."

Angelie exited the nurse's office and closed the door. Akuma went back to staring at the ceiling.

---

The following day, everyone from the Help Club was there at the school gate. Of course, except Akuma, who also skipped the rest of class the previous day. Taida was also already there.

"Um, is Jizen-senpai ok?"

Angelie approached Taida and smiled at him.

"Hey, as I said yesterday. It wasn't your fault. He's just pathetically weak—"

"Who are you calling weak? Something like that can't stop me!"

Akuma appeared wearing his P.E. uniform.

"Hey, man. What do you think you're doing? Just rest."

Kiba scratched the back of his head and let out an exasperated sigh.

"Go home. You'll just make more trouble for us and Futoi-kun. He already thinks it's his fault. Which is not the case."

Angelie got her eyes closed and her eyebrows grew closer with each other. She also clutched the side of her jogging pants.

"I already told you, something like that can't stop me. I already made the proper preparations to—"

"Just shut up and go home!"

Angelie's face was now flushed, and her eyes glared at Akuma. Akuma looked back and stared for a while. Then, he breathed out a weak sigh.

"Wow, you sound like you're worried about me or something—"

"Suit yourself! I won't be responsible for whatever happens to you, got it?!"

Angelie then rushed off and jogged on her own. Everyone else just stared at her as she went ahead.

"Well, let's get started. Did everyone eat first?"

All of them nodded quietly. Afterwards, Akuma started jogging. Mimi, Kiba and Sanaka looked at each other. Kiba raised his hands and shook his head. He followed Akuma and jogged as well. Mimi and Sanaka followed suit, while Taida was right behind them.

---

Their jogging session ended with no incident. Some students saw them and were impressed by what they were doing. Akuma instructed everyone that they were going to follow the same schedule the next day. He then went to the school building ahead of everyone.

During lunchbreak, it was only Angelie, Mimi and Sanaka who were eating at the rooftop. They each only had one piece of onigiri in their hands. The girls were staring at their solitary food.

"Thanks for making these for us, Mimi-san."

Angelie looked at Mimi and smiled at her.

"Yeah, but this is not enough…"

Sanaka was teary-eyed, and her stomach was grumbling loudly.

"Well, we are currently on a diet—"

Sanaka placed her hand in front of Mimi's face.

"I am banning that word as of right now. If anyone says that word again, I will eat a lot of hamburgers and donuts and fried chicken!"

Angelie laughed at Sanaka's declaration. She then looked at her onigiri and stared at it for a while, quietly. Mimi noticed what Angelie was doing.

"Angelie-san, are you worried about what happened earlier?"

"Huh?"

Angelie seemed to have snapped out of a trance.

"Yeah, about how you lashed out at Akuma earlier. I admit, that was shocking to see even though you two always argue all the time."

Sanaka was slowly biting off from her onigiri.

"Oh, since when did you start calling him by his name? I am intrigued."

Mimi squinted at Sanaka.

"W-what are you trying to s-say? Didn't we agree to call each other our first names when Kiba-kun suggested it?"

Sanaka's face became flustered, and she almost dropped the onigiri she was holding.

"I was just trying to make the mood a little lighter. I apologize."

Mimi then looked at Angelie. She saw Angelie giggle at her plot.

"Thanks for your concern, Mimi-san. I'm okay."

"What was that about, then?"

Sanaka continued to nibble at her onigiri while she waited for Angelie's reply.

"Well, it's just that I am always waiting for him to do something truly evil. Something so bad that I can't and won't ever forgive him for as Jizen Akuma. I admit I can never forgive him as the Demon Lord… But right now, he hasn't done anything that I can't let go. I've been thinking maybe this time is different, so I'm keeping an open mind. So, I guess I really was a LITTLE bit worried… "

(Oh, she's talking about their skit even after something serious as this? That is some dedication.)

Sanaka stopped eating after she heard Angelie.

"So, does this mean that you like him?"
