Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Last Supper
"Sanaka-san, please don't scare our guest."
Angelie reprimanded Sanaka with a gentle voice.
"I'm sorry. I get like this when I'm hungry…"
Sanaka reflected on her actions while looking down at the table.
"So, um, I'm Fukushuu Angelie of 2-B. What's your name?"
Angelie directed her attention to the male student while standing beside him.
"I-I'm Futoi Taida of 1-C…"
"Welcome, Futoi-kun. This really is the Help Club. So, can you give more details about your request?"
Angelie sat back down on her chair.
"Well, they announced earlier the health checkup later this month. I'm busy with my games so I don't really have time to study. So, I could use those extra points for the midterm exams. That's why I want to know how to diet—"
"Grr…!"
Sanaka glared at Taida.
"Calm down, girl."
Kiba put his hand on top of Sanaka's head.
"Uh, so there it is. Please help me, Senpai!"
Taida bowed his head towards Angelie.
"Why don't you just study? At least you can still eat. It's not like it's your health you're concerned about, right?"
Akuma was still slumped and looking at the ceiling.
"I will not forsake my games!"
Taida stood up and slammed both his hands on the tables.
(Another pain in the ass.)
Akuma straightened up on his chair and looked at Taida directly.
"So, you'll go on a diet, whatever it is, as long as you won't stop playing your games?"
"Yes! Please help me, Senpai!"
"I see. Then come back tomorrow afternoon. We'll have to decide first if we will help you and then how to proceed."
Taida bowed towards Akuma and then left the clubroom. After he closed the room behind him, Sanaka erupted.
"No!! We will not help him! He's just lazy! No diet!"
"I think it's harder to go on a diet than to study, if you ask me."
Kiba was still holding Sanaka's head.
"It is?"
Sanaka looked at Kiba with her lifeless eyes. Kiba just nodded without saying another word.
"So, who wants to help him?"
Akuma slumped back on his chair.
Angelie excitedly raised her hand. As Mimi saw this, she raised her hand while writing on her notebook two votes for helping Taida go on a diet. She then looked at Sanaka who was already silently crying while being consoled by Kiba. Mimi took those tears as a vote for not helping Taida and wrote it down. She then glanced towards Akuma, and she unexpectedly saw him raising his hand.
(Why would HE want to help?)
Mimi couldn't write down Akuma's vote immediately.
"I want to help. But if we are going to help, ALL of us will. Is that clear?"
After hearing Akuma speak, Mimi had no choice but to write down the vote under helping Taida. Immediately after, she saw a glimpse of Akuma's sinister smile. Then, Kiba unexpectedly raised his hand.
"So, Akuma, before you kill us with this diet plan of yours—"
"Huh? It was that obvious?"
Kiba just shook his head.
"It was written all over your face."
"Damn it. Well, what were you going to say?"
"Before these poor girls go on their hallowed diet journey, how about we go now to our shop? Remember when I said my father wanted to thank you guys? Everyone can eat whatever they want, our treat."
Kiba smiled at everyone.
"Sure, Kiba-kun. I'd like to meet your father and thank him as well for his generous offer."
Angelie was already packing her things.
"Are you sure you don't just want to eat as much delicious bread as you can before we embark on our diet journey, Angelie-san?"
Mimi's innocent looking gaze towards Angelie was betrayed by her question itself. Angelie froze for a moment, then continued to pack her things.
"O-of course, Mimi-san. We have to show proper manners at times like these."
Angelie laughed awkwardly into silence.
"It's like having our last meal before being sent to the butcher! They're fattening us up before slaughtering us! No!!"
Sanaka has her head on top of the table now, resting on a pool of her tears.
---
Upon leaving the school, they went straight to Kiba and his father's bakery. It was still open and there were some costumers inside.
"Hey, Pops! I brought everyone with me."
Kiba opened the door and the bell rang that signified customers entered the shop. They went straight to the front of the payment counter where Kiba's father was standing.
"Hi, everyone! It's so nice to see my son's friends at last. Thank you for what you've done last time helping us out. Oh, I forgot to bow down on the floor—"
As he was starting to kneel down on the floor, Angelie interrupted him.
"Please, Mr. Ketsueki, there's no need for that. We really wanted to help."
"Yeah, and if we helped, your son would join our club when we needed a member. That's all there is to it."
Akuma was already looking around the different breads on the shelves.
"Well, it doesn't matter the reason! You're his friends now and that means you're always welcome here. But enough of that! Since I wanted to thank everyone, please get any bread that you want. It's on the house."
Mr. Ketsueki heartily laughed.
"Thank you very much for your generosity. I hope you don't mind as we partake in your offer."
Mimi bowed at Mr. Ketsueki.
"Ah!!! To hell with it! I will eat what I want!!"
As Sanaka screamed, everyone looked at her, even the customers who were still inside the shop. She then grabbed two pieces of filled buns near her and started to chow both down. And while everyone's attention was at Sanaka, Angelie was covertly trying to reach out for a croissant near her.
"No need to be shy. Just get everything you want."
Mr. Ketsueki happily whispered to Angelie. Her face immediately turned red.
Then, Kiba noticed that Akuma was hunched down on the floor, his back turned.
"Hey, what happened to you? Your stomach hurts already for eating too much?"
He grabbed Akuma's shoulder from behind. When Akuma turned around, Kiba saw him holding a box filled with different breads.
"What are you doing?! Are you trying to bankrupt us?"
"But your dad said we can take whatever bread we want."
"But he didn't mean to hoard everything—"
"Hey, Kiba, that's enough. Your friend wants our bread, so we give it. You have to treasure your friends more than the money we could get by selling our breads."
Mr. Ketsueki crossed his arms and shook his head.
"I really don’t think we're friends, but since you say so."
Kiba put his hands inside his pockets and smiled at his father. Akuma then stood up and carried the box full of bread. He went to Mr. Ketsueki.
"Your breads are good. I've tasted about three different kinds already. My family eats a lot of bread. I mean really a lot, it's like we don't eat anything else. I'm sure they would love these. Thank you very much."
Akuma bowed at Mr. Ketsueki and then left the shop.
"Well, isn't he a very well-mannered boy."
"He's not!"
All four of them simultaneously protested.
---
The following day after classes, everyone was inside the club room, waiting for Taida. When he arrived, he opened the door, greeted everyone and sat down on the guest's chair. When he looked around, he saw that Sanaka, Mimi and Angelie were looking pale.
"Um, is there something wrong with Fukushuu-senpai and the others?"
"Oh, don't mind them. They just started their diet today. Barely ate anything during lunch. Poor souls. Anyway, we accepted your request to help you. We'll start tomorrow, okay?"
Akuma had an ominous smile on his face.
"I-is it going to be difficult? G-going on a d-diet?"
Taida swallowed hard after looking carefully at the girls.
"It's nothing to worry about. You'd just have to join their bond between women."
Kiba casually explains while resting his head on his hand, his elbow on top of the table.
"Hey, blood-sucker, I think you're forgetting something."
Akuma closed his eyes and clasped his hands together.
"I said that if we're going to help, everyone will, right?"
"Yeah, I know. I'll help cheering for everyone. Good luck guys!"
"That's not how it's going to happen, unfortunately."
Akuma stood up from his chair.
"Everyone, we will be joining Taida in his diet! Starting tomorrow until the health check up! Which means, less eating and more exercise! No more heavy breakfasts, lunches and dinners. No more lazing around."
"Wait, you mean, me too—"
Kiba slumped in his chair.
"W-welcome to the bond between women, Kiba-kun. You'll love it, I'm sure."
Sanaka put her hand on Kiba's shoulder as she smiled threateningly.
"So Futoi, starting tomorrow morning before classes, meet us at the school gate. We're going on a hell of a run."
Akuma started laughing maniacally.
At that moment, everyone's thought was the same, including Taida: 'He's a Demon Lord.'
